Thanks Katt -- I am just trying to be as perpared as possible.

Since I will be having the sleeve and the hernia repair, I decided I should use the two weeks suggested for my recovery. This means being off work. Since I live in Florida there is the Florida Medical Leave Act. It's my understanding that this helps you secure your job while your out for sugery. Does anyone live in Florida and use the Florida Medical Leave Act for time off from work?

I'm just worried their are loop holes I should know about.

I have heard that hair loss is something that effects some patients. I have not had surgery yet but I also heard that protein will help and being religious about making sure you take your vitamins without fail.

Okay... I think I am actually going nuts waiting for my insurance to approve my surgery. I'm trying to set up my leave time for work and get everything ready for my pre op diet and the waiting is absolutely killing me and driving me insane.

Thanks Sunny. I completely understand the feeling. I think everyone at the insurance co and the doctor's office know my phone number and see it on the caller ID and draw straws before they answer it. My insurance company has all my paperwork but "they are really busy" this week. Why is that my problem? I told them " it's all there, just approve it. It will take you all of 5 minutes". But they didn't take my suggestion.

Well guys... I called my center today and they said I should have my approval the beginning of next week. So I am trying to wrap my head around the high protein pre op diet. My usual diet is : Breakfest - protein shake with low carb Hood choc milk with a little fruit mixed in Coffee with creamer and sugar/splenda mixture Lunch - Salad with romaine lettace and spinach,Turkey, black olives and Ranch dressing Dinner - meat and veggies Snack in the am - Greek yogart Any suggestions? I am not use to a high cal low carb diet and I am so nervous that I wont do what I should and could experience difficulties because of mistakes.

Sunshine, I would call and ask for details like when it was submitted to you insurance co. I am doing the same thing currently. It may mean being a pain in the butt but I would rather be a pain then wait any additional time then the 5 years I have already been waiting.

wow.. that is kinda gross but also so very enlightening. I can't imagine. I can't wait to have surgery but right now I am thinking that I have about 200 of those to lose... WOW

Greek yogart for me taste like yogart but really really thick and creamy. I add granola to it now but I will probably have to cut out the yogart and the granola, my favorite flavor is strawberry.

I think it depends alot on your insurance company. I have BCBS and the company obtaining the authorization for my insurance says it will take about a week to two weeks.

Thanks guys!! Any suggestions on a high protein snack with lil to no carbs? Any suggestions on a coffee creamer with low or no carbs?

WOW... all I can say is WOW. I can understand people expressing their concerns but have they even tried educating themselves on the surgery? Have they viewed the information on illnesses due to being overweight and obese? Most of my close friends understand the struggles I have faced most of my life and they are in my corner 100%. Even to the point of wanting to do a rotation to help take care of me after surgery. I am thankful for them. But in regards to the way they did this to you... well that has just pissed me off. That was very wrong of them. Not to mention... getting your job involved!! OMG.. that is just horrible. Well... all I can offer you is my support. You are doing this for yourself and for your daughter.... think how your quality of life will change after the weight is off.... And think of your health. Welcome Hockey! I too am waiting for surgery. I just finished my 6 month supervised diet and I am waiting on insurance approval. Don't worry... consider this time - preperation. Good luck to you and I will be following your progress.

I know everyone is different, but I was wondering how much everyone averages every week of weight loss?

I also have hypothyroidism. My levels are being checked now for pre surgery just to make sure that my levels are in a normal range. My doctor also says it should not be a factor as long as your TSH levels are in a normal range and you have them checked routinely.

I have not had surgery yet but I will be havingsurgery probably in the next month. Now that surgery is coming up I feel myself going into a "have to eat" mode. I am not sure why but I think it's almost a panic mode that I wont enjoy or be able to have food anymore. But... it has made me realize that I definatly have a problem with food and brain hunger. How did some of you deal with brain hunger? What are some resorces to help with this>?:closedeyes:
