    Advice needed

Like previous poster said you start off light and build up. I've been banded 4 1/2. Years and haven't had fill in about 2 1/2 yrs. you at some point will get stuck but who knows what that will be. For me steak/beef eaten to quickly and too many large bites did it for me. Different foods work for different people. Ex: I cannot tolerate lettuce or toasted breads, while others are just fine with it

question about protein & working out

I say check with your nutritionist or surgeon. That sounds like a lot BUT depends on how heavy you're training. When I was half marathon training and lifting several days a week I needed it to support all demands on my body. When I'm not training that heavy I try and get in at least 50 per day, which is what my nutritionist told me. Funny thing is I got so full with the band it wouldn't allow me to get that much in some days. Also let your trainer know you have a band.

    food intake

Aim for at least 1/2 cup to 1 cup. I was told make sure the protein is 1st. I was also told to be careful of soups and stews. It also depends on where u are in your recovery

    stomach making noise

I'm 4 years post op and from time to time it does it and nothing is wrong. I also recognize that when you get used to consuming a lot more calories and then cut back dramatically my stomach growls and makes crazy noises. I try and ignore it

    I'm hungry

They're not the tastiest things in the world but I drank the protein shots when I was in this phase. Got them from walmart. I would make jello gelatins and use it as the water content or just drink a swig of it throughout the day. Costs about 2 bucks for 1 and they have about 42 grams protein. Just don't drink all at once because the body can only absorb so much protein at one time

Lost my mojo. Can you help me find it?

(((Hugs))) to you! I'll say this I know where you're coming from. I am a licensed therapist/clinician who has lap band and I gained some weight back BUT I've done a complete 180 and lost more weight than when I started and have changed my body. Please inbox me and we can chat for support. I'm coming to you not as a therapist but fellow lap bander. For many of us emotional eating is difficult and as stated above, doesn't matter which WLS you can trick it and eat past it. Have to work on those broken places in your heart and mind. I was going through some personal and weight stresses and began eatin ice cream and junk food. I had to stop, because I was killing myself all over again. This thing is a lifelong journey. The falling off its te problem, what's important is that you get back up again!! Deal with the emotional eating and what's eating you first.

    Help needed

Oh and let me also ad it depends on how active you are and how much calories you burn. I work out and weight train and have active days at work so your body requires more calories at times

    Help needed

Hmmm. I'm not sure about the answers. You don't necessarily need a full per say!. Yes please confer with your doc, but it does depend on what you're eating. Example my nutritionist tells me snacks, foods etc with 5+ grams of protein will keep you full longer. So if I eat a cup of soup and it's very little protein and not a lot of carbs I'm gonna be hungry in an hour. I was also told when eating balanced solid meals to eat my protein first then work around the plate leaving starch for last. If you aren't already, be mindful of your meals and planning. I've been banded 3 1/2 yrs almost and still get the growling stomach when I don't eat balanced, and I'm at full restriction right now. I hope this helps
  9. @CHI I currently have mirena and have been banded almost 3 1/2 yrs. I gained about 25lbs back after an initial 70lb lost in 1st year. In 8/13 I had a "come to Jesus" meeting with myself and decided to stop tricking my band. I went on a Daniel fast clean eating 21 day plan to get things jump started. I hit the gym now 4-5 days per week and got a trainer as a gift to myself. Now I'm about 15lbs away from goal the last I checked. It's hard and everyday is a struggle. I try to eat the things I love in moderation. If I want fried chicken, I eat it and keep it moving versus mulling over it and binging and tricking the band. As it's been said most of the struggle is in our minds and our negative relationship with food. Look into alternatives in changing your diet to get the band back on track. I'm at restriction now and doc won't adjust it. Anyhow, sorry for log message. I wish you much success

    Protein shakes

EAS premixed shakes are good. I used to drink all 3 flavors and keep them at work or grab out fridge. I buy them from walmart

Pain under left rib cage... what is going on?

I had this issue when I was banded 3 years ago. My port is in my belly button area as well. Doc said its gas. Try and walk around house every hour or so. Drink peppermint tea and use Gas-X strips or something. Mine would go all into my shoulder. It will move eventually
  12. And just t add I don't think its Obamacare. Lots of insurers don't like covering bariatric stuff because it's expensive especially if you go monthly and have other health issues.
  13. Perhaps as suggested you can work along with your physician on making pymts. Check the self pay price. My doc charges about 90 dollars for basic fill visit. I've found also when insurance was billed the docs bill insurance way more than self pay price

    Anyone zumba??

I love it! I'm addicted. You will really see a change in your body. I did it 2 days a week and running on the other days
  15. neenee717

    Protien

I would like to also add that the whey protein from body fortress is 26 grams protein per scoop. Word to the wise, we don't need o eat really higher protein at 1 meal. Your body will only absorb a certain amount at a time. So example drinking a 50 gram protein shake at once is not so great. Smaller amount at a time works better
  16. Zumba is outstanding. I say go to the live classes. It's a party. Doesn't matter whether you can dance or not. You'll learn routines and nobody had time to watch you cause all are too busy trying to keep up. Videos are okay but it's nothing like the real deal. You can easily burn 500-700 calories in a 1 hr Zumba class. I promise you'll get addicted. I became an instructor after I was banded cause I fell in love with it

    Alcohol

That can be tricky cause often you need to eat a lil something before indulging which we often can't because we get full as someone else said first time I drank wine went straight to the tummy and it burned a little. I felt little sick. Seems like I got tipsy quick just after one glass. I would drink really slow and perhaps eat a very very small meal first. Alcohol can be difficult for that reason cause most people have to et first and we can't eat much once we get restriction. I would play it by ear
  18. Breads are the devil now!! I was a bread and pasta junkie and cannot tolerate them. I promise you it's not worth feeling like your chest will explode or that stuck/ choking feeling. I had to suffer many a day/night til I left it alone. Don't need the carbs and empty cals anyway. I do tolerate cereal well and can eat crackers within reason, corn chips, muffins and other dense stuff like that hurt too.

    First Fill And Still Hungry

Restriction takes time, can be months. I promised you when you get restriction you will know., also as you lose weight the band loosens. So even if you get restriction and loose more weight it will slightly loosen. You'll be able to tell when you need adjustment when you start getting hungrier and when it takes more to fill you during meals. Also if you're not losing 4 lbs a month, my doc won't touch the band to adjust it
  20. I concur with the others. Seems like u eating to much the band is working if you get full quick. Honestly the first weeks after I was banded., I was lucky to consume 700 cals per day. Doc wasn't worried long as I got my protein in. I lost 15 lbs 1st week. Ad also u don't wanna eat so much and stretch that band. Doc had me take it easy 1st weeks while band is healing around stomach. Trust me you'll enter bandsters hell soon enough where you wanna eat everything but kitchen sink and stomach be growling all the time

    Protien

I drink body fortress whey protein from Walmart. Bout 17 bucks for large canister. It's delicious!! No gritty or pasty. I love the strawberry and chocolate.
  22. If u fill something wrong get checked out. That happened to me and turned out I had a vitamin D and B12 deficiency. U must ask specifically for that blood test. My primary did it. Everything was fine I had to take b12 an D3 for a while and then energy was back up. Turns out they didn't catch it before. No big deal

    Gasx ?

I used gasx strips and just tried to walk around house several times a day briefly. Gas is normal and it has to work it self out of u.

    Choking

I had the same thing happen alot recently and I'm 18 mos post op. I actually woke up vomiting and it scared the crap out me. Doc says I'm eating and drinking too close to bed. Stomach contents sliding back through band. He told me no eating or drinking at least 3 hrs before bed
  25. neenee717

    First Fill

In reference to actual fill, it doesn't really hurt. I've had numbing before and it's not necessary. To me doesn't hurt no more than getting blood drawn. I feel the prick of needle but other than that they hit bullseye of your port. I've had fills lying down and standing up. Experienced doc fill takes all of 30 seconds, u get a bandaid and out the door u go. My port is in my belly slightly to left above my belly button. Afterwards area will be a lil tender but that's all
