How many calories should you aim for each day? I know my doctor told me 200 calories makes it a meal but how many calories should each meal consist of and how much should you consume overall in a day?

Can you feel your band?
brittneyallyse replied to Fluffy_Gurl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on September 28th and I never felt my band. Like you, I also felt my port but never the band. I didn't feel the swelling but I knew it was there because I didn't have an appetite and I'm 2 weeks away from my first fill and the band still feels non existing. -
I had my first appointment with my surgeon since surgery and he said everything looks great. My incisions are healing nicely, my food intake seems to be right on point, I have a good protein intake and my weight loss is steady. When all was said and done he said I could get my first fill in 2 weeks and that my hunger will be decreased which is great to hear considering I'm starving between meals at the moment. I'm just happy to be making good progress and I'm excited for the next step.

I'm 12 days post-op and haven't had any pain for about 4 days other then at one of my incision sites. It's the one in the top right and it has both a pressure and burning pain to it at times. I still can't sleep on my right side because it hurts to but and feels like somethings pulling. I don't think it's infected because I've been keeping them clean and there isn't any color change or discharge. Any ideas?

how much should you lose?
brittneyallyse replied to Bobthedog's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For myself, I lose 19 lbs pre-op. However, in the past week and a half of being banded I've only lost 6 lbs being on clear and full liquids. It's a long process but I know I'll lose more once I get my first fill and get restriction. Best of luck to you! -
I love hummus and have been anxiously awaiting the pureed stage. Any ideas as to what I could have the hummus with since I can't eat bread?

Hello, 1 week Post-Op
brittneyallyse replied to Robyn_P's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had my surgery last Tuesday as well and I went back to school on Monday, it wasn't bad that day or Tuesday since I only had one class which was a little over an hour an a half but today was a little much since I had about 6 hours worth of classes with labs which were very hands on and physical (I'm an occupational therapy major) as well. Hopefully tomorrow will be better since I have another long day, but all you can do is hope. Best of luck on your recovery! -
How long were you on pain meds?
brittneyallyse replied to qtney1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm actually still on my pain meds and just about out of my refill unfortunately. I'm day 7 of post op and the pain seems to be worse now around the port site then all the pain I generally had right after surgery. I talked to my surgeron and he said it's normal due to the surgery and that he'll give me a small refill tomorrow to last me about another 4 days. It really all depends on the person. -
It depends. Is this your first week surgery on the pre-op diet or first week post-op?
-
Oh wow I don't think I could do 3 weeks of liquids, that's way too much for me. Just this second week of them is getting old already and I still have another 5 days!
-
How long did you have to wait before consumming alcohol? I'm not looking to get drunk or drink anything fizzy, just a glass of wine or two at a wedding. Any input?
-
I'm doing pretty good, I returned to school yesterday and it wasn't bad at all. I started my full liquid stage today and so far so good. I'm still not feeling hungry but I'm being sure to get in the nutrition that I need between shakes and yogurt. I'm anxious for next week though, mushies seem to have more things to choose from

I'm 1 week post op and I have a wedding on the 23rd so I'll be just short of 4 weeks post op.

How long after surgery did you start having sex again?
brittneyallyse replied to Moo's topic in The Gals' Room
I'm hoping you're all right about a week being long enough. Tomorrow is my 7th day post-op and my boyfriend is making sure I keep to my word and having sex after two weeks (it was my time of month the week prior to my surgery) since this it the longest we've gone without it in over a year, poor guy! -
Looking for other 20somethings? Surgery 2 days away!
brittneyallyse replied to 988221gj's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I understand exactly where you're coming from. I was very hesitant to tell anyone. I chose to tell my friends after I knew for sure I was getting it, which was about 6 months after my first appointment. They know what I've gone through over the years and the struggles I've had so they were able to understand how this was almost a final resort to save my health and prolong my life for the future. As for the boyfriend situation, he was one who thought it was an easy way out at first and told me he thought I could lose the weight and get healthy without the surgery. I told him more about my past, prior to when I knew him and that helped him to understand the difficulties I've had trying to lose weight and he was accepting of my decision. He did admit however that he thought I'd back out last minute and decide otherwise up until the time of pre-op when they where getting ready to walk me into surgery. But now, only a week later he sees how happy I am with my decision and he's willing to do anything to help me, as long as I promise not to leave him once I'm "hot and skinny" (his words not mine). I assured him that I love him for now and for always and that wouldn't change just cause my weight will. I'm not saying you have to tell him, but it's inevitable that he's gonna find out sooner or later especially with your post-op diet up until stage 5. But do it when you're ready and see how it goes. Best of luck to you with your surgery and recovery, be sure to post after too! -
It was my time of month on my surger day last Tuesday, the 28th and it wasn't an issue for the surgery itself or afterwards. I'll be honest I'm someone who prefers to use tampons and I thought I'd have an issue by not being able to bend to put the in or out and just have more pain in general but I didn't have any problems. I was up and moving about an hour after my surgery and once I was home I was walking around as much as possible to help move along the healing process. Now, a week later I'm back to doing my day to day things and I'll be returning to school tomorrow and then work two weeks (they require me to wait longer because I do personal care which consists of lifting heavy weights, including people) after that. I'm sure this is a longer post then neccessary but better safe then sorry. I'm sure you'll be just fine, best of luck to you!

I was banded the same day as you and so far so good. How are you holding up, are you up and moving again? Keep on posting! -
Just had my surgery
brittneyallyse replied to milonam's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
That's a good question. One of my close friends had the surgery about a year and a half ago and I've been lucky to experience her eating habits when she's gone out with us. If it's a good band day and she's not having trouble with food getting stuck or anything she'll see what's on the children's menu and order off of that, taking the left overs home for another meal or two. Sometimes mix and match with two side dishes that go well enough together to make a little meal of her own. It's cheap and just the right amount of food for her. She hasn't had any trouble going out and seems to enjoy herself each time she does, I guess you could say she's well adjusted. -
Just had my surgery
brittneyallyse replied to milonam's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey! I'm newly banded as well, it'll be a week on Tuesday. So far so good, the pain has subsided and I'm up and moving around more easily. I'm originally from CT so my surgeon and all other health care providers are located there and that's where I had my surgery even though I've relocated to RI. I had been staying at my parents' house right after surgery and just returned home yesterday so last night was the first night sleeping in my own bed and it felt pretty nice but my boyfriend was almost scared to sleep in bed because he didn't wanna move in his sleep in hurt me, he's so thoughtful. But tomorrow's the big day when I return to classes at school and I'm hoping I'll be able to withstand sitting through an hour and 40 minute classes and sometimes three hour classes, luckily tomorrow I only have one class and it's a short one. I can't wait to move on to mushies, only one more week, yay! This is gonna be a long process but I'm ready for this change. Best of luck to all you soon-to-be bandsters. -
Tomorrow is the day!
brittneyallyse replied to Mishay36's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck to all of you. I was in your position not too long ago, it'll be a week on Tuesday. So far so good, the liquid stage sucks but I know I've changed my life for the better. The surgery goes by quick as does the recovery, I'm already up and moving and I'm going back to school tomorrow. I know you'll be pleased, good luck again and keep us posted! -
Looking for other 20somethings? Surgery 2 days away!
brittneyallyse replied to 988221gj's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My parents obviously know and only four of my close friends, one of them actually had the surgery herself about a year and a half ago. However, I never told them when my actual surgery date was so they are unaware that I've had it, I want it to be a surprise for the next time I see them around the holidays. As for my boyfriend, I didn't tell him at first mainly because I felt embarrassed and didn't think he'd understand what it was I was doing or why. He knows now, he actually found out accidentally when he came with me to a post-op appointment for a different surgery I had earlier this year and the nurse brought it up. He was a little upset that I didn't tell him about it in the first place but he soon got over it and he was right on board with me. The day of my surgery he was by my side holding my hand during pre-op and there waiting for me when I was in recovery. He's been a great support system as well as my parents, I'm lucky to have them because they're making it a lot easier of a transformation. -

brittneyallyse replied to 988221gj's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey looks like we are around the same age, I'm 21. I was banded this past Tuesday, September 28th and so far so good. The doctor said that my surgery went amazingly and they released me a few hours post-op which was nice, it was comforting being at home (my parents' house anyways) to recover. The first 2 days I had a little trouble getting fluids down and could seem to meet goal but now I'm better and finishing up my stage 1 clear fluids and about to change over to full fluids so I'm anxious to be able to add a little more to my diet, something with a little more taste especially. But all in all the pain has subsided and I'm up and moving around and I'll be returning to school tomorrow which I'm hoping to go just as well, we'll see. Hope all goes well for you, keep posting! :smile2: -
I had the same surgery date as you and so far so good. How's everything going for you?

Any problems with oral Sex After Banding?
brittneyallyse replied to njudono's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded Tuesday the 28th and my boyfriend was missing sex already so I figured I'd at least give him some type of pleasure so oral sex it was. Three days post-op and I was able to perform and swallow without any problem, he was happy! :smile2:
