5 weeks out and can't get much down...
Becca replied to faithstar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some people have more swelling than others. It may just take you more time to heal. I would try to get in your protein and focus on fluids. Those are the two most important things at first. Talk to your doctor, too to be safe. Good luck! It will get better! -
Yay! That is so great!

I avoid breads and white carbs. The problem is that if you eat white carbs, your stomach fills up and you don't have room for protein. I ate a small bite of fried rice at a birthday dinner Saturday and I became very full from it. The result was I didn't eat all my protein. It really is a learning process and I will say I learned my lesson from that. I do sometimes eat fruit and vegetables, so I get a bit of carbs from that. I feel those are healthy carbs, though, so I don't stress about it. I am very strict about my calories and protein. I count everything that goes into my mouth on My Fitness Pal.

Here was my life with the band: 1. I did lose 70 pounds the first year, but that was from working out 6-7 days a week. I still fought hunger and slimed up the good foods. I ate junk most of the time. 2. I lost ALL restriction due to a leak at about a year and gained 35 pounds back almost instantly. I was self pay so no luck in getting it fixed unless I had about 5 grand. 3. My tubing broke in half and caused me extreme pain. I could not sleep for months. The doctor had to go searching for all the broken parts. It's amazing to me that this complication was never brought up before I had lapband surgery. 4. I had a slip and could barely swallow days before my revision. Luckily the exclusion was taken off my insurance so I could have my sleeve! Life with the sleeve: 1. I can eat good healthy foods! 2. I am not hungry. 3. I don't feel controlled by food, and in fact- I'm not! 4. I lost 22 pounds the first month and I am so happy! I LOVE my sleeve. I am so thankful to the wonderful peeps on this forum for helping me make the wonderful decision to have the sleeve when my band failed! I wish I could have had the sleeve instead of the band. Who knew life could be so great!

Any advice??Band has slipped a 2nd time now considering the sleeve
Becca replied to love2shop's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I went through numerous complications with my band, so I understand. That's great you were able to lose so much with your band! I was not so lucky. I had my revision about a month ago and I LOVE my sleeve. It works so well and I am rarely ever hungry. I would seek a good revision specialist so that you can have your band removed and sleeve done in one surgery. The surgery really wasn't that bad, and at a month out I feel great. I've been losing and I am so happy! Good luck- I hope someone knows a good revision doctor in your area! -
I am sorry about your complications. I think you really are doing great with your weight loss. Everyone hits that 3 0r 4 week stall. Then you will start losing again. Just be patient. The weight will come off!

Sounds very good!

Does anyone else need carbs to lose?
Becca replied to lisabug's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stay around 60 carbs a day, mainly because I try to eat some fruits and vegetables each day at this point. I felt horrible on only 30 grams of carbs. I really felt so sluggish and I am a teacher so I felt like I couldn't keep up with my second graders. I have been doing 800-900 calories and I average about 60 carbs a day. I feel great with that amount. I have lost 23 pounds in a month (and two days). I am very happy with it. I know that some have lost way more than me the first month, but I as long as I am losing, I am very happy with my progress. My nut also suggested the 60 carbs a day. She said your body truly needs at least 50 a day to function properly. Someone also recently posted an article that stated you would successfully lose if you stayed between 50-100 carbs a day. Everyone is different, and we have to do what works for us. I do try my best to stay away from breads and processed carbs, though. -
Eating Out at 5 weeks out. Specific Ideas Please?!?!
Becca replied to daezeey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If at all possible, I share with someone. That's pretty easy with family. If it is friends, I stick to soup or I order a small salad and eat the chicken, cheese, etc off the top. I went to a family dinner, as we were celebrating a few birthdays tonight. We were at a Chinese food restaurant. I ate a few of the vegetables, chicken, and a bite of fried rice. It was very good. My sleeve did it's job and I only ate a few bites! I had no room for birthday cake, so that was great for me. I didn't even really want it. I love my sleeve! -
Hugs...you will do great!

I can't wait to see your new pic! I am so happy for you. I am dreading the hair loss, but I guess it is worth it to have a hot body, right? LOL Congrats on all of your success!!! -
Leak on Top of Pneumonia..
Becca replied to MommyTawnie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, so sorry you are going through this. I am glad your surgeon is taking care of you. I wish you a very speedy recovery. How did you realize you had a leak? I am sending positive and healing thoughts your way. Hugs! -
I am exactly a month out today. I feel pretty good. I have been walking on the treadmill and I am planning on going to gym this weekend. I used to go to spinning class and I miss it so much. I am going to try it again and I hope all goes well. I used to take yoga, too and I think you can do it at a month out without issues. If you are already working out now, you shouldn't have a problem at a month out.

To sleeve or not to Sleeve.... actually I think i've made my mind
Becca replied to 2bslimkim's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
WELCOME! I hope you do decide the jump on and get the sleeve. I am so like you in that I won't take family pictures and I am sick of being the fat mom. I hope that will be changing very soon. I LOVE my sleeve. It keeps me in control and it is an amazing thing to see the scale go down and stay there! -

You sound just like I did a month ago. Hang in there and rest. You will be amazed at how great you feel a month from now! : )
-
I found that warm drinks always helped me, like hot tea and the diet Swiss Miss Hot chocolate. I remember having that feeling for about a week. I am exactly one month out today and I will honestly say that I finally feel 100% again. I remember those first few days. It was so hard being on liquids and dealing with the incision pain. Yet, it just kept getting better every single day. Hang in there and congrats on your sleeve!!

Guess it's time to start telling my story.....

Approved, Approved, Approved
Becca replied to ellawhite77's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats! I was sooo excited when I got my date. It makes you want to go out and celebrate! The sleeve is amazing. So happy for you! -
Very interesting....I am staying aroud 50-60 carbs per day. Glad I am in the "good" range for weightloss. I just can't function on really low carbs. I know I was in the danger zone before my sleeve!
-
I am from Houston, too. Did you ask your doctor for his statistics (leaks, deaths ,etc)? Is what you heard that was bad about the lapband or the sleeve? That can make a huge difference. Maybe you can talk to one of his sleeve patients. I hope you get it all worked out. The sleeve is so awesome, so don't give up!

Not too Happy with my Weight Loss
Becca replied to karrieremmer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have lost 20 pounds my first month and I am fine with it. I am a revision, so I expected my body to fight me. My clothes are getting lose and my face looks thinner. I will take whatever loss I can get at this point. I do plan to do more than walking on the treadmill next week. I know it is time to step it up! I have been eating about 800 calories and day and 50 carbs. -
If we do August, can we do it the first weekend? There are lots of teachers on this forum and we head back to work for teacher workdays in the beginning of August. I think there are lots of great ideas of where to meet. I am game for any of them!
