did you tell people about thinking/having vsg?
Becca replied to jasleeve's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I told my close friends, family, and a few co-workers. A couple of people had negative comments and it really made me mad. Especially since one person who never had a weight problem was trying to talk me out of the surgery. I just ingored those comments! Most everyone was supportive though. The fact is this. You can choose to not tell, but people will ask what you are doing to lose the weight. I now say when I am asked : eating right, exercising, and I had the sleeve. I don't like people thinking this is the easy way out! Just be prepared with your answer because I promise you the question will come up! Everytime I see someone I haven't seen in awhile I am asked. Good luck! -
Congrats! I hope your surgery went well. I was out of town visiting family so sorry I didn't see this until now. I live very close to Cypress and I teach in Cy-fair. Let me know if you need anything. It would be great to start a group, even if we just met to talk. : )

Since you are pre-op, this is going to be hard! That all changes when you have the sleeve. The ghrelin is reduced and your stomach is tiny. Just be patient. The stuggles of the pre-op diet are worth the outcome!

WOW!!!!! -
The law protects your from being fired if you take off for medical reasons. You just need to get a letter in writing from your doctor. That is horrible you got that reaction. Don't let it stop you though! The sleeve is worth fighting for!!!

No. I had my surgery at a downtown hospital because of the revision specialist I used. It is too far for me to drive downtown on a weekday to their support groups. If you know of any in the area, let me know!

I have the same problem. What to do? Resize or get a new one? Great NSV! Congrats!

First of all, congrats on taking the steps to change your life!!! The sleeve is such an amazing tool. I was given some of that happy medicine before my revision and it really helps. You should ask the anestesiologist for it. I think it is so normal to be scared. You will do great though. We will be here cheering for you! Yay!

What is up with therapist
Becca replied to gettingpissed's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What??? LOL I remember my NUT saying for me to not take anything from this site seriously because there was so much wrong info here. I couldn't have made it without my friends helping me here! And I had numerous people tell me I wasn't big enough for surgery. Yet I weighed 286, was morbidly obese, and I started having blood sugar problems. I go back to look at my before pics and don't get why anyone would say I didn't need WLS. I was huge! The sleeve is awesome no matter what anyone says! I am thankful every single day that I have my mine. Don't let anyone stand in the way your happiness. You deserve this!!! -
Congrats on your revision. I know it is so hard at first. It keeps getting better every single day. Take your time recovering. I did too much too soon and became exhausted. You are going to love the changes the sleeve brings!

How did your kids handle the change(s) in you?
Becca replied to treequeen's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My kids have been just fine. I have a 14 year old son and my daugthers are 8 and 6. My son hasn't had any negative reactions at all. My youngest was confussed at first because she really thought I would come home from the hospital thin. She didn't understand it would take time! LOL The weight loss does happen at a gradual pace, so they will adjust. They will be happy to have a more involved you. I am a teacher and so I have off with my kids for the summer. We have done something active everyday. They love it! I think if you have a positive attitute, they will too. -

You look great and your kids are so cute! -
Hi! I am Texas friend. You are going to love the sleeve. It will change your life. Congrats!!!

They have been doing the sleeve for a long time as the first part of the duodenal switch. It is a very effective tool. I really don't have the desire to eat like I used to with the ghrelin reduced. Also, many foods taste different. I don't care for sweet foods and most fatty foods make me sick. VSG is a tool though. I know I have to work out and eat protein first. If I eat junk (chips, popcorn, etc), I can eat lots of it and it is easy to get off track. I choose to eat protein and mainly fruits or vegetables. I drink my water every day. I love having restriction and I feel that the sleeve will allow me to get to my goal and stay there.

Great video that explains the staples. http://www.youtube.c...B/6/7MRWaAlaJF8

I believe God made the sleeve possible. Obesity is a serious medical issue and treating it is no different than any other surgery. The sleeve really is a life changing miracle that will allow you to do great things with your life in a new way.

I have a new one to add. I have a friend who is super thin, eats right, and works out all the time. I didn't tell her about my surgery because I just didn't want to hear any comments about how I could just work out and eat right and on and on. When I would run into her she would comment on how great I looked. Well someone told her recently about my VSG. She told one of our mutual friends that my weight loss wasn't "real' because I had surgery. That I was "cheating!" Really??? She doesn't say a word about my weight loss anymore. The funny thing is that I am working out now more than I ever have in my entire life. I don't think I am cheating. I love my sleeve even if I have to deal with silly comments like these!

Waiting is frustrating! I had my surgery date pushed back due to insurance "games" and it is not fun. The right time will come and you will be so happy. Vent here anytime!

Yay! Good luck, We will be cheering for you!
