Finding it hard to get enough calories
kalamitykel replied to hopetolose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was having a very similar problem for 3 weeks after my first fill. I couldn't eat without a struggle for most of my meals, barely getting 700 or 800 calories. I had pain swallowing, and vomited with most meals. My weight was stagnant. I got a unfil of one cc, and I feel much better, enjoy my food and am loosing weight again. I recomend "fitness pal" online, to track calories and nutrients. It is free and you can even use it on a I phone. I sure hope you have better luck soon! Kelley -
I have had constipation, and am having a little heartburn, not severe, but iritating. For the constipation I put some benefiber in with my Water and crystal lite. It is tasteless and i am good with that. Kelley

I had my first fill Thursday. I guess i already had 4.5 cc in the band. He added 2 cc, and I really didn't feel much restriction the first evening. He said liquids for 24 hours, and I had soup with chunky potatoes in it. Next day when I finally was hungry and ate salmon with mayo, I was really in trouble and vomited a little. Water is fine. I guess that means I over did it and now have swelling. I also have heart burn, not severe, but uncomfortable. Kelley

I was banded on 4-5-11 and while still a little bit puffy, it does seem to be getting less so. I do have rash where there was the adhesive and boy does that make me crazy!

kalamitykel replied to 54Shirley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I think if the bras were in great shape, I might give them away. I have some clothes in the next two sizes down, and then I plan to shop resale shops until I reach goal and then spend some money on the final size! I can't wait! I won't be buying elastic or shirts that don't tuck in for sure. -
why am i not losing?
kalamitykel replied to Pammy S Lewis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Melody, it seems like you really have some insight and certainly experience since it seems you have been very successful. I have a question: What is WOE? I have read a couple of Dr. Bernsteins books, and seeing that it has worked for you, I think I will pull them out of the shelves and reread. I am 6 days postop. Kelley -
Just Banded
kalamitykel replied to WitchyArmyWife98's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery yesteday late afternoon, and I am very sore also. Mainly it is superficial abdomen where they poked me. I have to say that I have the most supportive and caring young adult kids, they are tag teaming and taking care of making me take my pain meds. I really appreciate them. Kelley -

I am having my lap band on the 5th also. I am having similar feelings, so nervous today. My main worry is the swallowing of all my medicines, what will I do.? However, I have no intention of not going through with it, just kinda scared. -

so worried that insurance wont approve me for surgery
kalamitykel replied to amethyst1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Toni, I am wondering if you are depending on insurance to cover this? You know, I probably would suddenly gain weight, wear pants bigenough to hide the ankle weights! Ha! Insurance makes you jump through hoops, but it is good to have if there are complications. Good luck and I will pray that things work out for you. Kelley -

Hi, I also work in the Surgery area, though in the Cardiac cath lab! So, I am having a hiatal hernia fixed at the same time as the lapband. Should I be expecting more discomfort? How much discomfort do most folks have? Kelley -

I have been okayed for my surgery on April 5th, and it is fast approaching. I have been researching all of the Protein sources for mainly after the surgery so I will have a cupboard full and be prepared. The insurance i have is bcbs of tennessee, but I live in Texas..funny huh! -
Will self pay folks be covered for complications by ins. co
kalamitykel posted a topic in Insurance & Financing
I was told by my case manager that for people that go the self pay route that any complication from the lap band surgery will not be covered. Is that true. I h ave BCBS of Tennessee. I am being held up now because I did not have a 10% weight loss in the last 5 years. So they say I need to loose that 10%, before I qualify. However, that would put me out of the BMI range, even though I have several comorbidities. The did say that it would not be held against me. I could do it in the pre-op diet. Any thoughts? -
Any April bandsters out their???
kalamitykel replied to kaylovegee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a date for April 5th for surgery. It is a new program at our hospital, two surgeons will be there one with much experience! The first 5 patients are employees of the hospital like me. The only stumbling block is BCBS of Tennessee. They keep on finding new issues with the whole deal! So pray for me that it really does happen asap. I've been waiting forever it seems. To those who don't plan to go through insurance, and do self pay........I was told by the insurance case manager that if you do self pay insurance will not cover complications. That is scary.
