When people ask, do you tell them about WLS?
zanneg replied to Maineman's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I have no one besides my husband that knows, and at 4 months post surgery, I still have no inclination to tell anyone. It is none of their business. Best wishes for your success. Congratulations on deciding to prioritize yourself!!! -
When people ask, do you tell them about WLS?
zanneg replied to Maineman's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
So, I had a lap band that had to be removed and later had RNY. The first time, I told people that I'd had weight loss surgery. The majority of people reacted positively. A few of my overweight friends acted like I had taken the easy way out. Lol, trust me the misery of that lap band was no easy anything! Of course, when the band came out I couldn't maintain the weight-loss. I hated having everyone know I had had WLS and had gotten fat again anyway. So, with the RNY, I have opted to respond to questions about how I'm losing weight with "I'm trying not to eat anything that tastes really good" and a laugh. People who have known me for a long time have seen me yoyo many times and so if they comment that I'm losing weight I just say, "yeah, this time" and we commiserate about how hard it is to keep it off. Telling people is a personal preference, really. But, the second time around, I'm keeping it private -
I am 4 month out and still struggle with the food obsession. Planning ahead helps me do better. I try to go to the healthy choices first. I don't always stop there and that is slowing my weight loss at times. I think being kind to ourselves about mistakes is important. Don't beat yourself up, just remind yourself that you promised to get healthy and make better choices. Drink some water, get up and move, and love and believe in yourself :)

August 6th lap band to gastric bypass surgery
zanneg replied to Gabriela 6's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm 5 weeks out from rny. My band came out in 2011. This week I'm noticing more energy and an overall sense of well being I was sick for the whole year I had the band. Even my worst moments since bypass (like feeling super hot and nauseated sometimes after I eat) are nothing compared to the misery of the band. I have absolutely no regrets at this short time postop. I am in a bit of a stall at 30 lbs. down and no loss for a week, but am motivated to up my Protein and exercise and persevere. Best of luck to all of you who are making this change to improve you lives and health! -
2 months post-op 25lbs down. Anyone else?
zanneg replied to w8loser's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm 5 weeks out and down 22 pounds. I was wondering what was a typical loss when I saw you post. I am happy with my 22. I need to take off at least 100lbs. 20 put me 20% of the way there. Be kind to yourself and patient. The most important thing is that the weight is coming off. -
I had band in 2010. It slipped and I had removed 2011. Wanted to revise but BCBS wouldn't allow because my BMI wasn't high enough. Had bypass 10 days ago under same insurance. They required a bit more documentation, but it was still pretty easy. The require you to be obese for at least 2 years. That happened really easy again once the band came out and I wasn't vomiting all the time.

110 pounds down since December 13

Look at your waist!!!! How with wonderful for yo. Congratulations! -
I wondered if your doctor said why so long between adjustments? I have had problems fnding the greens zone-- been overfilled twice! I wondered if going further between might be a good thing; searching for answers. It seems like the first time through I got really good restriction at my fourth fill and that lasted nearly 5 months before I started having issues, needed an adjustment and now can't get there again.

How often do you vomit/PB?
zanneg replied to mandi78's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Anymore, I consider a day of no vomiting to be a very good day. I get 1-2 of those a week. Mostly, I know I sholdn't eat before mid-afternoon, but try it anyway and then regret it. I worry I will cause my band to slip, but it is so hard to convince myself not to eat! And sometimes I am even genuinely hungry. It doesn't seem to be about quantity it is more about my tummy not accepting the food. One or two bites might make me vomit 3 times over the next hour until every bit is gone. And, it is a miserable, slimy hour at that. -
It is hard because it so different for everyone. I am over 5 months postop and lost about 45-50lbs. since suregery. I started losing from the moment I committed to have the surgery. Talk about proof that our thoughts have power! I guess I'd suggest you order a dress a litle smaller than you are now. When the wedding gets near you may have to have it taken in, but thats a whole lot easier than having to let it out. Especially if you have a slower weight loss as it seems like many people do. Good luck to ya!

Band Slipage, Now band will never be the same!
zanneg replied to kris102003's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had intended to get the sleeve until 2 days before my surgery my insurance (Blue Cross Federal) suddenly denied my authorization. So, they agreed to the band and I have been fairly happy with it. The sleeve was by far my first choice, though, and the one my surgeon thought would work best. Only you can decide what is the besy choice in this difficult position, but I wanted to share my history and the fact that I would have preferred the sleeve. Good luck and best wishes to you! -

zanneg posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Greetings everyone! I have jumped on here to search for questions and always found plenty of help. I just never felt like I had anything useful to add. I LOVE my LAP-BAND®. It is not easy, but it makes weightloss possible. Thanks for all the helpful info people post here! -
Now family does not want me to get the band!!!
zanneg replied to purple3797's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
purple3797 i have had my band since May 31, 2010 and I am down about 50 lbs. It is the BEST and hardest thing I have ever done for myself. I was terrifed, but I was also determined that I wanted to live! I didn't want to die slowly for the next 2-3 decades! I wish you all the love and support in the world.
