My Rant before a break (Strong Words so enter at own Risk)
transformer replied to TommyO's topic in Rants & Raves
I've unfortunately seen the consequences of this sort of action. Not pleasant at all! None of us want THAT to happen--too much drama! I thought you just finished saying you hated name calling, TommyO? I'm SO confused! -
OMG! That is TOO funny! :pound:

It's the cars that drive around plastered with Confederate flags that worry me... -

If Hillary wins, my son and I have decided that we're moving outta the country. I don't know where we'll go. I know that New Zealand is out cause I'm still too gosh-darned FAT to immigrate there! LOL! Any other suggestions? I still have "kin" in Tingwick, Quebec, Canada... -
People actually write like that? I haven't seen that yet...hmmm!

I finally figured out that a post shows up with caps at the beginning of every word if someone has the "Caps Lock" key pressed down when they type in their response.

I guess my point is...do we REALLY know where we all originated from? My brothers traced our family back to one dude from France. I don't know anything further back than that. Whether I had this knowledge or not, I still wouldn't call myself a "Franco-American" or a "European-American." I'm not a "Caucasian-American" or a "Pasty White American." I'm not a "Morbidly Obese American" either. I am simply an AMERICAN! :usa2: IMHO, if you are a U.S. citizen, you should consider yourself to be an American...period. It would be nifty if our country could be a bit less divisive and focus more on the things we have in common instead of incessantly pointing out our cultural and racial differences. If more people took this view, maybe there wouldn't be such rampant racism. I learned about how well this could work in my classroom. I've had many, many children in class who had differences that they could have very easily been picked on for; however, I didn't make a big deal out of it, so no one else in the class did and everyone got along just fine. It's really not a tough concept.

What is the 'rule' on beer?
transformer replied to sniggle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor said no carbonation, too. I'm not into alcohol to begin with, but I've especially been avoiding it so I don't take in a bunch of empty calories. If you exercise more to burn off the calories, then I guess you can indulge sometimes. As always, go with your doctor's advice to be safe... -
My son has asked me in the past why people who weren't born in Africa want to be called African Americans. I didn't know how to explain this to him appropriately. My ancestors are from Canada (my grandparents immigrated to the U.S. from Quebec and Nova Scotia), but my parents and I were born here so we consider ourselves Americans. None of my family calls themselves Canadian Americans because our ancestors came from Canada. My ex-hubby's ancestors are from Ireland. His parents and grandparents were born in America, so they consider themselves Americans. They don't call themselves Irish Americans. So, that's kind of where I get stuck with coming up with a viable explanation...sigh!

My doc said to eat protein first, then veggies, and then starches (if I still had room). I can't say he outright forbid starches, but he encourages us not to go overboard because our weight loss will slow down.

So...why don't you just jump into the fray with the rest of us? Sounds like you can hold your own to me! The "tell-it-like-it-is-testosterone-brigade" could be just the thing needed on some threads! :biggrin1: -

I hate it when people post just to post.....
transformer replied to TerriDoodle's topic in The Lounge
Okay...how about we go back to more pleasant topics like CHOCOLATE-COVERED potato chips? CHOCOLATE-COVERED pretzels? CHOCOLATE-COVERED Marines? OOPS! Does that mean I'm back to our last topic? :biggrin1: I have to bring some food to a holiday party at work tomorrow that I don't really have time to attend! I decided to bring roasted red pepper hummus and greek pita chips because I'm too gosh-darned tired to cook anything. I'll slop it all on a tray in the morning and off to work I'll go! One more week and a couple days to go until the holiday break! :whoo: -
Support forum for the positive aspect of banding only
transformer replied to rebandit's topic in Rants & Raves
Exactly! There are TONS of negative posts about all kinds of topics:band slippage band erosion band surgeries that were done incorrectly vomiting productive burps (PBs) hair loss eating problems (foods that some people can't tolerate) doctor issues (unavailable for appts./fills, etc.) Should those of us who haven't had any complications start apologizing for being positive about our experience? -
Here's the "glass half full" view of this: at least the church members said they would mail your check for the $40!!!

Being in science education myself, I SO totally feel your pain! Look at it this way--I've heard you can add years to your life by laughing often! There's your silver lining! Maybe you can thank your students for prolonging your life! LOL! They won't have any idea how goofy you think their answers are... Thanks for the laugh!

I would never advocate posting anything entitled "the Snoopy Dance," at a time like this, would I? :heh: Naw, I'll behave!!!! Just tired of all the drama is all! -

LOL! You know I chose that moniker because I keep hoping that my slowly deflating, flabby body will magically "transform" into something that looks more like Demi Moore's!!! (At least I picked someone who is chronologically about my age not counting the years she's taken off with various PS procedures)! -
Big Ol' Hairy Religion vs. Athiest Debate
transformer replied to Titslereaux's topic in Rants & Raves
I think I like you a lot, Chelle! :biggrin1: Threads like this are started with the intention of creating some kind of contrived "controversy" so everyone will get all wound up (use a sing-songy teasing voice): "My religion's better than yours!" Whatever! Who gives a crap if you're a Mormon, a Catholic, a Protestant, an Atheist, a Baptist, a sun worshipper, or someone who prays to your pet chihuahua "Jesus" because you're nutty as a fruitcake and think your ankle-biter is a god? We have established repeatedly on this site that we all don't agree about religion--get over it already and get on with your happy little lives! :frusty: Why don't we pray about it? Or not!!! :biggrin1: I think all people who aren't attempting to murder me or a member of my family are just nifty, whether they believe in a religion or not. If you know how to behave and you have enough common sense to treat others with respect, you're cool in my eyes. It's all good! :clap2: -
..people changing..based on 1/2 other's opinions, it isn't right!!!
transformer replied to bandster_1007's topic in Rants & Raves
Exactly! You can say what you want to say like a civilized human being without "going postal!" It makes me lose respect for the opinion of the person who is carrying on... -
I find it fascinating that this thread turned into a debate about race. I don't interpret what Oprah is doing to be a black/white issue at all. Don't you know the REAL reason Oprah does the things she does? It's all about ratings (which really means more money)! How do you think she keeps on making money hand over fist? How do you think Oprah built her multi-media empire in the first place? She's a very talented communicator. Her chameleon-like skills have been honed through years and years of practice. If she couldn't make herself appear approachable to a wide variety of people, her ratings would be in the toilet, she wouldn't be selling magazines, or making movies, etc. She is a very shrewd businesswoman and if she wants to keep funding all of her charity work, she's got to keep raking in the dough!

'08 - Who do you want?
transformer replied to smatyas's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I haven't decided, so I won't vote on your survey yet. Can you delete Gravel or Tancredo and add in a choice like "Anyone but Hillary?" I really don't want the humiliation again of hearing about what Bill's little interns are doing under his desk on national TV. TMI! These days, it'll be splashed on the news 24/7. Rather awkward to watch with my teenage son. Aren't the non-stop Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra commercials enough to put up with during the "family viewing hours?"
