Scheduled for Tuesday the 23rd.
shutuplena replied to Nella337's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Those were the biggest issues for me. The surgery went great. Congratulations and let us know how you're doing. -
They needed to "find" sleep apnea with me too in order to be covered. Thank goodness they "found" it. Good luck on your journey!
-
I didn't have one either. I tried not to go crazy eating everything, but I did. Good luck.

immediate post op diet....help
shutuplena replied to truluv2329's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on liquids for 2 days after surgery. Then for 3 wks I ate soft/mushy food. From 4 wks on I ate solids but chewed very slow and well. It seems a little extreme that your doctor wants you on liquids for pretty much a month. By 5th week I was starving. -
My port was very uncomfortable in the beginning and it was due to swelling. I was having spasms in the beginning too and my doctor said it was just the muscle trying to reject the port, and thankfully my muscle accepted it. It's so soon after your surgery. You still have a lot of healing to do. It'll be fine. Congrats on the surgery.

Ask all the questions you can. This is a great site for information.

Welcome to the site Kity. I just turned 40 too. Being banded gave me a new lease on life as it will you. Congrats on the surgery date and let us know your progress.

I never weigh myself - only once a month when I go to the doctor. I seem to always get disappointed no matter what the scale says. I just go by the way my clothes fit.

Just banded - Bad Back Pain
shutuplena replied to Slate2633's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know what the back pain is but the tightness in your chest might very well be gas. Try taking lots of Gas-X and walk alot. See if that works. Have you called your doctor about your back? I hope you feel better. -
I was covered for surgery, but I'm not covered for fills. They cost me $250 every time I go.

You're not whining. It's tough that first week. Your body has been through a lot and it takes time to heal. It is also normal to be hungry. Have you tried anything else besides jello and broth? Poached and scrambled eggs did wonders for me. I was starving 1 wk post op. Sorry I can't help you with the fungus. Did the doctor give you any medication for it?. Did he tell you what it's from? Hang in there, in a few days you'll be feeling much better.

First consult with Surgeon
shutuplena replied to bleb0803's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It'll be your "rebirth". So Exciting! Congratulations and let us know how you're doing. -
I'm with you Maurdan. I can't chew that many times either, no matter how much I try. I mean really now, how many times can you chew a spoonful of scrambled eggs? I've learned not to stress over it. You can only do the best you can do. Certain foods will require a lot of chewing and others won't. Keep up the good work!

So I went to my first party since being banded in November and I felt so out of place. Like I didn't know what to do with myself. I wanted to eat everything, but I knew I couldn't and I really didn't want it. I realized tonight how severe of a habit eating is. I actually felt like a nervous wreck without eating. It was like when I stopped smoking 15 years ago, you just need to do something with your hand. It's the same thing now. I am hoping this part of it is really just trying to break a habit and this will pass. Has any one experienced this mental turmoil? I'd appreciate your advice.

diet questions-phase 2-soft,mushy food
shutuplena replied to smita's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You shouldn't be calorie counting right now. You just have to make sure you get your proteins in and drink plenty of water. Don't worry about the calories. -
I lost 23lbs before my first fill and I had my second fill 2 wks ago. I feel more restricted and have definitely lost more weight. I won't know til I go back to the surgeon in Feb. You'll do fine. 22 lbs. is GREAT. Good job.

Band feels tighter now
shutuplena replied to TxChick50's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The headache can be from not eating, the anesthesia or both. I've read on here a few people who have the same problem as you're having. Keep on liquids for a couple more days and just go slowly. If it doesn't get better, call your doctor. Congrats on the surgery! -
My doc refered me to a Nutritionist now what?
shutuplena replied to KittyBoozie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My surgeon set me up with all the doctors I needed to see including the nutritionist. I only had to have 1 appt with her. The questions you ask are very good ones. Maybe you can pose them to your surgeon. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. -
Don't get discouraged. For many people it takes 3,4, sometimes 5 fills for good restriction. You'll get there. Don't worry.
-
My insurance doesn't cover fills, so I pay $250 every time I go to my doctor.

Continuing swallowing hard? What is it?
shutuplena replied to cal's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Cal, I was banded on 11/14 too. I have a 10-12cc band and my first fill was 3cc. Sounds to me like your eating too fast. I agree with Chubster - try eating slower and chew better. -
How much water should I be drinking?
shutuplena replied to smita's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
64 oz is correct. I must admit - I don't drink anywhere near that. BAD. You should sip slowly in the beginning especially to make sure how you handle it. Some people cannot gulp water anymore. I just had my first fill and I don't have a problem at all. -

Sounds good, Fix it- cant eat it?!!
shutuplena replied to gonnabethin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sounds to me like you're still in the frame of mind as before the band - thinking about cooking delicious foods and eating it - being excited about it. Then when the time comes to eat it, it's not the same. I had the same thing happen to me the other day with steak. I used to love it before my band and when I went to eat it it just didn't do it for me. I actually felt depressed. It didn't smell the same, taste the same and actually turned me off. But you get over it. Try making smaller, less time consuming meals. Maybe that'll work. -
Fluoro shows restriction but I don't feel it!
shutuplena replied to Betsyjane's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
What size band do you have? Did the dr say why he won't give you any more fills? I'd be upset too if I were you but I wouldn't give up. Talk to the dr again and again until he listens.
