Larry, I feel your loss. Everyday I miss being able to eat what I want. It is a mourning period. I've posted a thread previously that I feel like I lost my best friend. Someone gave me great advice - "if food was your best friend it wouldn't have done to you what it has." Words to live by. All we can do is just keep being positive and, like with any habit, the bad feelings will pass.

Please help - gallblader out yesterday
shutuplena replied to Bostongurl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my gallbladder removed at the same time as I got my band. I'm sure it made my recovery harder but I didn't have the problems you're having. I just can't use "garlic powder" anymore or it makes me sick. Have you spoken with your doctor? I'd give him a call. Good luck. -
Way to go Joe! Congratulations.

Banded Yesterday-Need Advice
shutuplena replied to Nella337's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Take more Gas-X. My doctor allowed me to take as much as I needed. When it didn't work good enough I took Senekot, a very gentle laxative, and that worked wonders. -
Try and be positive and don't give up - good things will come. I believe that all things happen for a reason. Maybe losing this job was to give you the opportunity to move on and find something better. I'll keep you in my prayers.

AWESOME! I'm so happy for you. I can't wait to feel the same thing.

How is the LB when you get the flu, etc?
shutuplena replied to 2boys2cute's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I haven't been faced with that yet...I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but I had asked my surgeon about throwing up and he said they would prescribe an anti-nausea medication. It's definitely not good to throw up but I don't think the band affects you differently when you're sick. -
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. I had a hernia too that the surgeon repaired during my surgery. He also removed my gallbladder. Can't your doctor do both at the same time?
-
You should see somewhat of a change within the first 24-48 hrs. If not, go back to the doctor.

I don't know when you had the surgery but if it's been within this week, then it's most likely trapped gas pains. I had it 3 days post op and thought I needed to go to the hospital. Probably the most painful experience aside from giving birth. If that's what you have, take ALOT of Gas-X, lots of water, walk around alot and I even took a very gentle laxative which worked wonders.

After surgery liquids
shutuplena replied to newgirl11707's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Have you told this to your surgeon? If you aren't getting enough fluids he or she should know. You shouldn't be having that much trouble getting liquids down. -
Sleep Apnea Test??
shutuplena replied to GoddesPotential's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Usually the pulmonologist schedules you for your first sleep apnea test where you're hooked up to a million wires and a machine that monitors you. Once they get the results and diagnose sleep apnea you go for a second sleep study where you have to sleep with a mask on your face to see how much oxygen you need to breathe properly. I wouldn't say that the results speed up the surgery, but the insurance co will be more willing to cover you with that diagnosis. My appt with all doctors, including the nutritionist was done through my surgeon. What does your doctor say when you should go see one? -
Sounds like you're on your way. Good for you. It's a very exciting journey. Good Luck.
-
Good for you! Good luck on the 30th.

Another Hopeful! (New)
shutuplena replied to GoddesPotential's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Can you check with your insurance company to find out if WLS is covered? I had apnea, severe joint pain, stress incontinence and gallstones. If you are diabetic or borderline and/or if you're hypertensive the insurance company should pay. What co-morbidites do you have? -
My muscle twitched and spasmed for a couple of wks where my port is. Doctor said it was just the muscle getting used to the port. Sounds like you're having the same thing.

I was banded on 11/14 and was also scared but I knew I was making the right decision. Maybe the person you spoke to who hasn't lost anything wasn't following the appropriate diet. As you can see in this site MOST of us here are so very happy we were banded. Health reasons are the best reasons why you should have WLS. It's normal to be scared and after the surgery, you'll be SO HAPPY you had it done. Good luck on the 29th.

Chest X-ray Problems
shutuplena replied to demsvmejm's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It could be you have walking pneumonia which many people "walk" around with without showing any symptoms. It's not unusual for the doctors not to send test results in a timely manner. It's extremely frustrating and doesn't seem ethical, but it does happen. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Keep us posted. -
Good for you that you're moving on with your life. You're moving in the right direction and you've come to the right place. Good luck!
-
Nobody really understands unless they've gone through it themselves. There are no right answers. The band is defintely a life change but from the way you sound, I think you'll do great. Just keep researching and asking tons of questions. I wish you luck.

banded one week - no restriction
shutuplena replied to Texassippi's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only had restriction for 1 week and then I was starving. So what you're feeling is normal. I didn't have much restriction until my 1st fill. -
New to site ~ banded 6/12/06
shutuplena replied to blessed's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I haven't had that happen to me but I just wanted to say that I'm sorry you're going through this and I'm hoping it all works out. -
Pre-Op /Clear Liquid Question
shutuplena replied to Nella337's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think sugar or artificial sweeteners are fine, but I wouldn't do the milk. Clear liquids are considered something you can hold up to the light and see through it. Milk doesn't fall into that category. Good luck to you and let us know how you're doing. -
11 days post op and weird bump under incision - help
shutuplena replied to KLo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like it's your port. I have a big bump where my port is and after surgery the sharp pains I had were like muscle spasms. It's just the muscle getting used to the port being there. I still have a bump but no pain at all. Don't be worried. -
same for me - 1 night and put under.
