September Bandsters!
SkinnyDip replied to Nursecutie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on 09/03, and I had lost 25 pounds as of last week. I'm scared to weigh in because my monthly visitor just left, and I do NOT want to see the regular 5 pound increase that comes with him. Also, I transitioned to the soft food stage this week, and I'm scared that I might have gained because of that, as well. I think I'm going to bite the bullet, though, and weight in tomorrow. Fingers crossed!!! -
Halloween Challenge
SkinnyDip replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for your reply! This may not be the best place to post this, but I have another question that I've been wondering. How much were you typically able to eat during the mushy phase? I am nearly 2 weeks post-op and started mushies on day ten, and I can hardly eat a teacup full of blended Soup (in addition to bariatric chewable Vitamins and Protein drinks). I don't know if it's because I might still be swollen or if I just have a lot of restriction from the band alone. -
DO NOT SCRATCH! I developed a rash that first showed up around my incisions. I continued to scratch, and it then spread until it covered most of my stomach. I immediately contacted my surgeon (and sent him a picture via e-mail), and he immediately put me on a liquid antibiotic for it. It turned out that it was a strain of staph. With the medication, it started to heal and scab within 24 hours. If it is staph, then it is super contagious and you don't need to be itching it and then touching other people or other areas of your body where it can spread to. It could very well simply be an allergic reaction, but if none of the medications that you took are working, then I think that it may be a bit more serious. Don't worry, it will go away, though! You just need to get on the right antibiotic.

Halloween Challenge
SkinnyDip replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello everyone! This is my first challenge as well. I am just over a week post op and I am already down 17.5 pounds since post op. In addition to this, I lost 5 pounds on my pre-op diet, which gives me a total of 22.5 pounds lost since this whole process began. My starting weight was 215. My current weight is 192.5, and my goal for the October challenge is 179. Optimally, I would like to lose somewhere between 13.5-15 pounds. I know that's probably overly optimistic...but I've already lost this much so far with absolutely zero exercise, and I think that once I add that in the mix I will only continue to lose. I do have a concern, though. I am currently on the pureed/mushy phase of the post-op diet, and I was wondering if many people experience significant weight gain once returning to "regular" foods. This is one thing that I am very worried about since I have been so fortunate in my progress so far. Good luck everyone!! -
banded 6 days ago and Im hungry!!

I was banded the same day as you, and so (of course), I'm the same day post-op as you! I think the main thing is to get as much protein as possible. That's what is going to fill you up. Try Isopure from your local GNC. It's premixed, and though it's not delicious, it tastes sooo much better than any of the other protein powders or drinks that I've tried. Plus, one drink has 40g of protein, 160 calories, and NO carbs or sugar. There's nothing that I've seen with those kind of stats. Also, warmer foods, such as heated broth, make me feel very satisfied.
