i was very honest with my close friends and family. i have been struggling so much and have researched this for over two years. i have suffered with four broken ankles two blown out knees and now my bp is climbing higher and higher. i needed the help and i dont feel like it is cheating. Do i have some friends that wish i would not have this surgery yes i do. but they realize i am doing this for me and to be a healthier me. was a nervous telling people but they were very sympathetic about my situation and are wishing me all the luck. i have a co worker whose wife had the RNY several years ago. he has been teasing me about the last meal. i have had a really good laugh at that. i just told him if i concentrate on my last meal of anything i will never make it through pre-op. so i just look forward to enjoying some of my favorites again but in a small quantity and definitely in a different way. i am so proud i have friends and family supporting me. I could not do this without them!

1st day of a 10 day pre-op
beckyrlnd replied to beckyrlnd's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i have noticed so many different pre-op plans. just amazing. i have been looking at everyones different plan. i hope i am doing it right. i have lost some but not sure. my scales must have a new battery. So i feel God was telling me to wait and weigh in on Wednesday when i go back to the doctor for education day. So ready for the this new journey i am trying so hard to not think of things. but i got to tell a funny. my grandma is in florida and she and her companion love sending my family swedish danishes just a treat. and i had done well on friday and guess what was on the table over 50 swedish danish on my table. i just laughed and said one day i will be able to have a bite a two but not today. my big test is Saturday. my family Christmas dinner. Thank goodness it is a fish fry with some chicken. it will not tempt me too bad. i will be on clear liquids during this engagement but i will have surgery 3 days later and i would not mess up this work for nothing. I wish everyone luck on their remaining pre-op. please lets keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. -
1st day of a 10 day pre-op
beckyrlnd replied to beckyrlnd's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
boy now i understand what everyone is speaking about. today has been rough. but it is due to the lack of carbs in my system. i had a pack meeting with my cub scouts today and was edgy nervous anxious. felt horrible. ate some protein but it was not till i had about four chunks of pineapple within my allowable carbs that i felt so much better. i have done well. but it has been touch and go. two days down and eight to go. oooooo boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
mine was quick too. i start consult in september. evals in october. sleep study in november. was waiting on insurance and got a call it would be after the first of the year. then got a call the next day saying the insurance went ahead and approved. she said i was scheduled for the 21st and i would begin my pre-op on the 10th and be in for education on the 15th and surgery on the 21st. a bit overwhelming yes but so ready for this journey for a healthier me. Anyone having trouble "seeing" themselves thin?
beckyrlnd replied to Pamalamadingdong's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i remember being small in high school and still have pictures of me at 135 graduating looked really sick to me. i have a picture of me at 150 that i love. when i talk to people they say i am trying to capture my youth again. i tell them " i aint old yet, i am 38 but my health is more important to me than remaining the size i am now." I have my boys and family to think about too. high blood pressure messed up knees and ankles have helped me make this decision and i am tickled to death. i should have done this two years ago when i first started looking into Lap Band. I am looking forward to getting back on a horse and riding. ready to out hike my boys on camp outs and enjoying the life God intended for me to have. Do i see myself as thin. I sure do because i know this is the best decision i have ever made in my life. Surgery in 10 days and i am ready and prayed up for it. -

bariatriceating.com. both lap band talk and bariatric eating are very informative and supportive website forums. i have enjoyed purchasing some products and talking to others that have gone through bariatric surgeries. -

beckyrlnd replied to chocolatecity's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my surgery date is December 21, 2010. I dont have to start my preop plan till the 10th. really excited! i have been racking my brain trying to find other clear liquids i can drink beside broth, water and crystal light. i found a wassail recipe to help give variety. heated up and it will a delicious alternative that i can enjoy with my family during the holidays. one thing i have been doing lately is gathering as much information as possible. i would rather be overly prepared for what may or may not happen that not be prepared at all. I really enjoy this site. I especially enjoy all the support people give each other! i hope all have a great day! and to the bandsters that are now banded Good Luck and God Bless you on your new journey! ( I will b there soon!) -

What about venison / deer meat? it is the leanest of them all. Or would it be considered a red meat? -

one recipe if have enjoyed especially for special occasions is the following. one small pkg of SF Jello one small container of low fat or fat free yogurt one small container of Cool Whip i like the sugar free or fat free either one is good ( you can mix or match you jello and yogurt - i match strawberry jello strawberry yogurt - your choice entirely) Take a 1/4 cup of boiling Water and dissolve jello. Mix in yogurt then cool whip. I usually put in in graham cracker crust but when surgery is done i am going to put in individual cups and freeze for a treat. it has a mousse consistancy and is really refreshing frozen. i found this recipe in a magazine. i have used it for years.. Light and refreshing. i hope you try it experiment with it and enjoy. Have a great day! -

December Bandsters (Early Xmas present)
beckyrlnd replied to chocolatecity's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good Morning, December Bandsters! I looking forward to my surgery date on December 21, 2010. Ready for the new year and a better way of life. Everyone have a great day! -
Good Afternoon! i am sort of a newbie on this site. i have visited the forums as i began this journey. I have been very informed and received a bunch of tips getting prepared for surgery. I was pleased to get the ok from my insurance on Tuesday. I am going to be banded on December 21, 2010. My family is really excited for me and is ready to support me in whatever way is needed. i have found several people in my church who have had the procedure and are wishing me great luck. I am a MS girl and we like to eat. however, i have gotten to a point in my life where i can not eat anymore. My health and my family mean more to me than that extra serving of good ole comfort food. I enjoy Scouting with my children and enjoy horseback riding with my husband. And I am wanting to get back to riding as soon as i get a bit of this weight off. Awesome Christmas present for me to myself this year. I pray everyone has a wonderful and blessed holiday season.

I am a newbie and have been very inspired and informed from this website. I too am getting ready to take on the journey with the Lap-Band. I have done all my intitial testing and meetings. I go next week to meet with the bariatric Dr to discuss pre-op information. All my information is being turned over to the insurance and i hope it will be a quick process. I just wanted to say thanks for all that post because it really prepares you for you post op days. I do know from what i read is to make sure you have liquid gas drops and walk as much as possible. I am really excited about this adventure into becoming a new me. Thanks again for all the great information.:w00t:

Help, How do you get the crushed pills down YUK
beckyrlnd replied to macie1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have not had to cross this hurtle yet but i do have a suggestion. When my son was given chewable medication from the doctor. (he was already taking pills but they said his weight made hime have to get chewables.) applesauce would not do. I got sugarfree chocolate syrup crushed the tablet and mixed it with the syrup. because my son is hyperactive we have a sugarfree household and it worked out well till all the pills were gone. Good option with a great taste. Good luck!:w00t:
