Nov/Dec 2010 bandsters..How ya doing?
beckyrlnd replied to DRP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good Day! i was banded 12/21/10. I have lost a total of 55 lbs. that does include my 13 lbs of pre-op. i have just had my first fill. and feel great. i like others need to get my exercise in gear. but i do outside activities and gardening and stuff. so my exercise is in all different form types. I stay satisfied longer since my fill. i enjoy about 1 cup to 1 1/2 cups of food per meal. i am a carbaholic so i am having fits trying to stay away from carbs. but i am doing it and my plateau broke so we are trucking on down the road. I hope everyone has a great week! -
Tape Measure Moving but Scale Is not
beckyrlnd replied to agdunkle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
body composition changing. i have been through two shifts in measurements. kind of surprising. my weightloss stalled for about three weeks. I had a fill so everything is moving again. I am learning the weight goes then the body shifts. I am beginning to wonder if the plateau we go through is more of our body adjusting to the weightloss. I was really shocked yesterday when i put on a pair of pants that were a 20. i am so used to wearing 28-30. Congrats on your weightloss! -

What were YOUR favorite mushies???
beckyrlnd replied to Ssauce74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my first mushy meal was ff refried beans with rotel tomatoes with cheese. and i still love them. i like the ricotta cheese with spaghetti sauce too! the coolwhip jello and pineapple recipe is a favorite too. but i dont eat it much because of the carbs in the pineapple. but go to the kraft recipe website and there is a cool whip dream pie that is to die for. cool whip jello and yogurt. awesome! i am making myself hungry now! -
What have you lost...
beckyrlnd replied to LapBandBobbi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i lost a 5000 BTU Air Conditioner. LOL! I will have to tell my husband that. But the other day it struck me funny as i weighed in that i have lost as much as a sack of horse feed that i haul to the shed. Then i think i used to haul that sack with the weight prior to this surgery. Boy what a change. Everyone keep up the good work! -
How did your relationship change?
beckyrlnd replied to pamela3782's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
well, i had surgery in December. Everything was fine. My husband has spinal cord surgery one week after mine. i began losing weight and going through an emotional roller coaster. He and i have been in therapy since February. i unltimately wanted to end my marriage. it all came down to this. i was using food as a comfort when i got upset. i gave up smoking for my hsuband while we were dating. i gave up coca cola (red bottle) due to my kidneys. then gave up caffeine in preparation for the surgery and changed to sprite. then went completely off carbonated drinks. so after surgery i just could not go in the kitchen and stuff my face. so i began allowing my emotions and frustrations to show through. i had nothing to fall back on and my husband did not want to face my pinned up frustration i had for him. because i always fixed things and compromised. i cant do it anymore because i have nothing to comfort me except to vent and tell you what i think. my husband and i are still together due to a wonderful christian marriage counselor and prayer. we have had to work alot and hard to get my emotions back under control and for him to undertand i cant be quiet and deal with things anymore. i have more confidence. and i feel our marriage will become stronger with time. in a support group we discussed the divorce rate with this surgery. they say it is quite high. i know several in my circle of friends that have called it quits. i have faith that God will keep my husband and i together and help us mend our hurt feelings. we talk more now than before. This surgery is not a cure all. it will make you happier but you must also deal with other issues that you have suppressed because of food. because the majority of overweight people are foodies. we have to understand why we eat and when we have this surgery how are you going to cope with those same emotions and stress. because food is not a security option any more. Unless you want to blow all the money you have spent doing this out the window. I dont know if I came close to anything you were looking for. I will say a prayer for you and hope all works out for you and your family and you all make transitions to a new life. God Bless! -

beckyrlnd checking in 5.7 lbs down. I got a fill last Monday. I hope it continues to go down. Everyone have a great week! -
Even though i dont like to take pictures i take one picture a month. nothing fancy just a plain stand up shot to put in my progress book. amazing how your body changes. i had plateud for about 4 weeks but my body composition was changing. pants fit differently and such. they may not be the most pleasant thing to do, but i use them for incentive to keep going. I am enjoying smaller clothes, no achy joints and compliments. Everyone have a great weekend!

December 2010 Bandsters out there?
beckyrlnd replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my first fill yesterday. my doctor said clear liquids for two days and full liquids for two days then i can begin on soft foods Friday. I am taking in my protein and vits but i am still dragging a bit. He was proud that i went 3 1/2 months before a fill. So i hope the scale keeps going down. i have really been interested in the conversation about telling people about our band surgery. I work in an office of about 100 people. but the environment is very close. i knew when i began this journey that i would have to be open. i contemplated keeping it private but could not do it myself. i have been really surprised how supportive everyone has been. i use my support for accountability to help me stay on track. i am not going to say i dont slipp. i can honestly say i am a foodie/carboholic and could not and can not do this alone. i had to have help. now granted i have to show willpower on my own. i still have choices that will determine the outcoome. i respect other peoples privacy in there decision. i was in support group one time that there are some patients of our doctors that sit at the back door and call reception to let the office know they there. They come in the back and leave through the back. they are just that private. i completely understand and at times i wished i could do that. but i could not do this alone. i really enjoy reading the blogs and they are quite informative. I think the one thing i enjoy the most is the difference in doctor requirements. boy do they vary. Well i hope everyone has a blessed day and continues to keep up the great work. -
Dr. Oz about WLS Monday
beckyrlnd replied to 123crod's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What got me on the previews is they showed the 5 Tablespoons of food. We eat more than that. And the food we eat may be smaller portions but it counts more in nutrition than others eat. We have to have a hgher protein and lower starch/carb ratio. I have not decided if I want to watch the show or not. The previews did not give me a good outlook on the show. I am just so thankful for this surgery. because with my health the way it was going was headed toward a wheel chair. so blessed! Everyone have a great day! -

I was banded in December 2010. I have been very pleased with my lose. I am down 50 lbs. i have been stalled for about 3-4 weeks now. Not gaining and not freaking out. food portions are good. not over eating in that aspect. so i began food journalling. I discovered that i was eating to many carbs. i have no veggies or fruits in my meal plans. I eat Protein and do indulge on a serving of grain or two but not every day. Have a major sweet tooth that has been acting up. but is controlled. veggies are my down fall. i dont like the way they taste or smell. my family loves veggies and i fix them for them. but i dont eat them. i like veggies if they are mixed in with a casserole type. like squash dressing. i like broccoli and cheese but i never get it fixed like i like it. so i dont eat it. you can only eat so many string Beans. Fruit. i love fruit but they have carbs. i could eat fruit all day if i did not have a carb restriction. So what do you do when you are stuck in a food rut. what can i do to vegetables to make them more inviting and taste good. i feel if i get more veggies in my eating my carb cravings will disapate. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

December 2010 Bandsters out there?
beckyrlnd replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As long as you are losing that is the main thing. I have noticed some people have lost more and some who have lose less. I think we all should feel encouraged with the accomplishment we have made. First we went through the surgery. Second we have changed everything about our eating. Three we are a healthier person for what we have done. Everyone keep up the great work! We will be stylin and profilin soon! :bananapowerslide: -
When i was having this problem, I spoke with my nutritionist. She said to make sure is was getting my daily Water and if i still was not going that i could incorporate fiber supplement into my regimen (metimucel etc). I consider this a side affect. because we concentrate so much on getting our Protein we really dont get enough fiber to keep us regular. Other tries are the activia yogurts. I reved up my water and so far things are flowing smoothly but i do still have to take something to help. I have heard some take a stool softener regularly. (I personally am not a fan.) Good luck on finding a solution.

Stomach hunger
beckyrlnd replied to Russian_BANDit_inNY's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The head hunger was what i had to work on before the surgery. So after the surgery i was content with what i had at whatever stage. i am not going to say i was not anxious about advancing to each phase but i can say that i was satisified with the amount i ate. my Protein supplement really helped during this time. i added the powder to everything. Soup, broth, milk, etc. I have a friend thinking about the lapband and i told him the head hunger is the hardest part to work through and conquer. I got really hungry one day not long ago. I could not get enough to eat. but i kept my composure and drank me a protein milk and the craving passed. Great questions to ask. Some times we just wish we had a book and everyone had the same situation. But all is different. Good luck on your search! -
Surgery in two days 3/21/11 and so scared:(
beckyrlnd replied to loveynurse01's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i got very nervous on the trip up to the hospital. i got there and they wer rushing me to change. asked me if a nurse had called me about a cancellation. I said no and she told me to do this and that and they were waiting for me. I had no time to get nervous or say no before they were wheeling me down the hall giving me a little cocktail to calm me down. i remember the ride in the elevator and dont remember getting off. i woke up in recovery groggy and ready to see my husband. i had to stay over night so i had time to wake up and begin walking my laps in the hall. my recovery went well. i am really pleased everything that has happened. God Bless your journey! -
WHAT PROTIEN DO YOU LIKE?
beckyrlnd replied to NeedangerMGMT's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use the BE Pure Isolate Protein powder unflavored from Bariatric Eating. (they also have alot of other flavors.) I mix it with everything. During my clear liquid phase i would not have made it through without adding protein to my broth. I did not like the Protein drinks or other protein powders i tried. Now that i can eat regular food, every morning i mix a scoop of protein powder with milk and little sweetner and a dash of vanilla and drink it on the way to work. boost my protein first thing in the morning. Everyone has their own favorite protein they like to use. Good luck finding your favorite! -
yes your nerves tend to get the best of you at times. This was the best decision i have ever made. I started my family eating healthier prior to my surgery so it would not be sucha shock to them as well. I have really enjoyed finding new recipes for my family and also enjoying activities with them again. Best decision i have ever made and look forward to losing more weight. Good Luck and God Bless!

To fill or not to fill
beckyrlnd replied to Russian_BANDit_inNY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a conversation with my doctor about that also. he said as long as i was losing he would not fill. He told me he was proud of my control during this unfilled stage and to wait and see. I have been three months with no fill yet. Just talk to your doctor and find out what is best for you. That is a awesome question! Thanks for posting it!
