I have had a lifetime of weight loss gimmicks!  Like most people who are on here, I've tried every prescription medication (and most over the counter meds), joined WW at least 10 times, had balls put in my ears, hypnosis, and a long list of other things to try to lose weight, all the while my weight kept climbing everytime I'd try something else.  As I have begun to age, my doctors suggested weight loss surgery to stop all of the medical complications that I was beginning to have.  While trying to decide which route to take, a cousin of mine almost died just after having gastric bypass surgery, which pretty much talked me out of going that direction.  I had my first lap band surgery in May 2005.  My beginning weight was somewhere around 350 lbs.  I lost down to around 275 but every time I would get a fill I would have acid reflux worse and worse until eventually I started vomiting in my sleep.  Since I had an aunt die from asphyxiation just a short time earlier, I decided to talk to my doctor about my concerns.  He removed the fluid a little at a time but I continued to have the reflux so eventually all of the fluid was removed.  Over a three year period I gained back about 35 lbs.  It turned out that I had a pretty large hiatal hernia that seemed to be causing my problems.  When I eventually decided to have the hernia repaired, surgery was scheduled for June 30th of this year (2010).  Everything went really well with both of the surgeries with recuperation from the second one being much easier since I knew what to expect.  Due to the healing time for the hernia, I have only had 2/3 of the equivalent of one full fill at this time.  I had my second third of the fill last week and have already begun having reflux problems.  I am supposed to go back the first of October for another fill and will discuss my concerns with the doctor at that time.  So far, I've lost about 23 lbs (again).  I'm not real sure what direction I'll be going in if the reflux continues.  I can't go back to the point of loss of sleep due to vomiting.  I've changed many stressful situations since this happened before and was hoping that would make a major change this time.  Time will tell.......
