Outrageous Octobers 2010
Alijacmom replied to katiejane's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone, I was banded on October 18th and as of today have lost about 40lbs. I had one fill dec. 9th. They started out by putting 4cc in my band but I could not swallow water. It actually got stuck in my chest. It was the weirdest feeling ever. She put me right back on the table and took out 1 1/2 cc. I now have 2 1/2 ccs and I feel good. I am thrilled with the weight loss but I do not feel major restriction. Will talk to the nutritionist next week and see if they will try another fill again. What I don't understand though is if I was unable to take the 4cc's initially what would be different that would allow me to take it now. I guess time will tell. Good luck all on this journey. I am happier then ever that I did it. I feel wonderful!! -
Hi Everyone, Well - today is 4 weeks since surgery and I have to say I am feeling 95% back to normal. Still experience some pressure around the port when I get up from a chair but I am not aware of it if I am walking around. I accidentally picked up my grandaughter yesterday. Felt a little sore after that. Not sure when you are able to lift again. I go the Dr. and nutritionist tomorrow for my 4 week checkup and change of diet. Been on mushies for the last 3 weeks and now I believe I go to semi-solids. I cannot wait to have something a little crunchy. I found a recipe on line and I have used it a lot and love it. Thought I would share it....Skim milk ricotta cheese, a squashed meat ball, some extra sauce and shredded mozzarella. Mush it all together and throw in microwave for 1 - 2 minutes. Delicious - lots of protein. I love it. Glad to hear all of you are doing well and I will let you know how I did at the Dr. Have not gotten on a scale yet. At my support group the leader said not to focus so much on the numbers on the scale. She said if you are doing the right thing the weight will come off. I am trying that approach now!! Good luck all!!

Help, How do you get the crushed pills down YUK
Alijacmom replied to macie1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
try a teaspoon of applesauce with the meds mixed in then take a teaspoon of regular applesauce...works pretty well -
Hi everyone. Doing a little better today and am very glad that everyone in our group sounds really good! I seem to still get the gas pains at night in my left shoulder and when that comes in it is rough. I am still sore around the port incision but other than that I really feel I am coming back to myself. I have no appetite at all. Do all of you feel the same? I cannot believe it since I had quite an appetite before. I am on the mushy stage and have been managing pretty well. I have to say I read a recipe on here and it has been a great dinner for me. Part skim ricotta cheese, very, very shredded mozzarella mixed in the ricotta and 2 tablespoons of spaghetti sauce. Microwave for 1-2 minutes and it is delicious. Tastes like lasagna without the noodles and it is very creamy and mushy. Thought I would pass that on to all of you. I am now 8 days since surgery and curious if anyone else is still getting that awful gas pain and port pain. Still thrilled to death that I am a week older...

October 2010 Bandsters!!
Alijacmom replied to Sarah71407's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Pit Pat - I was banded the same day as you. Feeling good but still feeling very tender by the port. Feel fine when I am walking but very sore getting off of bed or chair. Can't wait to be a week older - how about you??? Good luck... -
Hi everyone - Well tomorrow will be one week since surgery and all in all I am feeling pretty good. Still very sore near the port but all else feels ok. My Dr. did 2 days clear liquid prior to surgery, 2 days full liquid after surgery and then mushies for the next 4 weeks. It is really hard to find some different things to eat. So far cream of wheat (the higher protein one), tuna, light cream soups, cottage cheese, apple sauce. I am afraid a little to branch out of my comfort zone but I am getting bored. R Gran 1 you are an inspiration. You sound like you are doing great!! Keep it up. I have never been happier to be a week older. I find that when I am walking the pain is much less severe then when I sit or lay for a while and then get up. Well - every day I hope to be stronger. Not weighing myself until 1st followup at Dr. 4 weeks out. Kind of surprised that my dr. waits 4 weeks for followup but I guess he knows if you do not feel right you will come in earlier. Keep up the good work everybody!! So excited for all of us. I feel like I was reborn!!:blushing::smile2::smile2::smile2:

Hi all - 48 hours after surgery and all went well. Got home last night and had an unjury shake. It went down well. Had a rough time getting out of bed in the middle of the night. I was quite sore around the port area. I have to say I have had some gas pains but not as bad as I have heard others speak of. Took gas X strips and they went away. Worried about the dehydration thing so I am drinking often and so far everything is going down no problem. Any questions I will be happy to answer from the little I know so far. Just very very happy it is over. Made a major mistake of going on the scale 48 hours after surgery and saw no loss. Dr. said I am full of gas and fluids and it will come off. Putting the scale away for now. Anyone else have this experience??

October 2010 Bandsters!!
Alijacmom replied to Sarah71407's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am there with you on the 18th. Having it at Weil Cornell in NYC. More excited then nervous. Just want to get this show on the road!! Good luck to you - I am sure we will talk again.. -
Well I am now one week away..October 18th is the day. Had all pre-op testing this week and the last thing for me is my internist to give final clearance. I have been stocking up on different protein drinks, baby food, gatorade with protein, gasx strips, pill crusher and on and on and on. I am truly not nervous about the surgery itself - more nervous about how I will feel after it is over. My Dr. just requires clear liquids 2 days prior to surgery - no 2 week thing however this week I plan to start the big cutdown of food intake. I seem to have fallen into that famous last supper syndrome. My nutritionist reminded me that we will be able to eat everything again - just in very small amounts. Good luck everyone and lets all stick together to give support that we will all need!!

Great Pre-Op Experience - Wanted to Share
Alijacmom replied to Sun Rae's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone. Getting banded on October 18th and cannot believe it is coming so fast. A friend of mine who had a band 3 years ago said to me it is time to stop your love affair with food. How true is that for all of us facing this uphill battle. I also have only a 2 day clear liquid diet pre surgery. Of course I was told to diet on my own before surgery but as we all know if we were able to diet successfully we would not have to have surgery..right?? Trying to get out of the "last supper" syndrome. After all we are not going to an executioner's chair we are improving the quality of our lives!! Good luck to all of us - we need it!! -

I am getting my band Oct. 18th. I have been trying different shakes and I thought Unjury chocolate was delicious. Has 20 grams of protein and then another 8 if you use skim milk. Not gritty at all - very pleasant tasting..:smile2: -
Not keeping food or liquid down after surgery! Someone tell me it will be worth it!
Alijacmom replied to Valerieee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I am getting my band on October 18th. I too got scared after reading the negative posts on this site and there are many. Someone advised me to pass over those posts and try to stick to the positive unless you are having a problem. I have done that and now I am nothing but excited!! Good luck and really think about reconsidering. Every one of my Drs. has been a cheerleader for me to have this done. They all say it will be life changing so I will let you know.. -
Hi Everyone...Well much to my surprise I received my approval today. That was much faster then I expected. Most of the pre-op people I have been reading about are on 2 week liquid pre-surgery diets. My Dr. does not require that. I am dieting now but eating normally and I only have a 2 day clear liquid pre-diet. Could you guys tell me what your pre-surgery diet is. My surgery date is October 18th. I am feeling very excited at the prospect of being thin once and for all. I try very hard to be selective about what I read on this website though. Some of the bad stories of slippage etc. can get a little scary... Lets hope for the best for all of us!! Looking forward to sharing our war stories..:rolleyes2:

Hi there - I am 55 1/2 years old and am also doing this to increase my energy level. I find that I get winded when I walk around and this troubles me terribly. I can so relate to what you said about the pre-diet. It is like the famous sunday night before a monday diet. My mask is a Res-med swift FX. It is the lightest most comfortable one I have tried and I have tried a million. Lets keep in touch and we can compare notes on this venture we are taking...:blushing:

Hi all October bandsters...I was given a date today - October 18th. I do not have my approval from insurance company as of yet but I do not think I will have a problem. My Dr. only does a 2 day liquid diet pre-surgery. Don't know if that is a good thing or not. Feeling a little anxious but I know the outcome for all of us will be great. I have learned not to dwell on the negative posts on this site. They can make you a little crazy. For all of you C-pap users I have some advice. Keep trying masks until you find the one that is comfortable for you. It took me about 10 tries until I found a good one.. Good luck all and I am sure we will be talking again...
