  1. For the first month after my sleeve, i was hungry. And i was able to eat more than i thought i was supposed to. But this past week has been a whole different story. No hunger. Zero, zip. I have actually forgotten to eat, and when i do eat, i lose interest after about 4 bites. Weight loss is picking back up, but it means i have to be super careful about choosing foods to get the maximum nutritional value. My acid reducer had no effect on the hunger, either. Hang in there, maybe the same thing will happen for you.
  2. I had my band in December 2010. It was fine for almost a year, then i started having issues and had to have a barium swallow, only to discover the band had slipped. Had a complete unfill, let it get settled back where it was supposed to be. After six weeks, had another swallow, everything looked okay, started fills again. And it slipped, again. Unfilled once more, still having issues. Woke up in extreme pain, had to go to the ER, band had slipped to the middle of my stomach and had to come out. There were days when i could eat anything, and days where i could eat nothing. Vomiting was a regular part of my life, and i wasn't losing weight like i thought i would. I was so happy when the band was out - but i started slowly gaining weight, and that was unacceptable. Today i am one month post-op with the sleeve. I am 1 pound lighter than i was at my lowest post-band. I've not thrown up, i can eat "normally", albeit much much smaller portions, and i feel fantastic. No comparison between the two, i wish i'd had the sleeve first.
  3. They tested for leaks during my surgery, before closing me up. Then 2 days post op, i had to drink a very thin barium liquid while in front of the xray machine. Very cool to see the new anatomy. I did have a drain, it was removed after the post-op leak test. Most uncomfortable part of the surgery, in my opinion.

    Hiring A Trainer

I pay $65 per hour for my trainer, but i know that there are other options. $50-70 seems to be the price range in the Austin area. However, you can do small group classes with a trainer for much less. I think it is great that you are going to see a trainer, it's a great way to start a lifelong exercise plan!
  5. The best time to exercise is when you will do it consistently. I am a morning person, i like to get my workout in fairly early. Then i am done! I know that i don't have to worry about it the rest of the day, or feel guilty because it got late and i was tired, or whatever other excuse i can come up with to avoid it. My husband, on the other hand, likes to exercise after work because it relaxes him and burns off any nervous energy and stress from the day. So do it when you feel best, and do it every day!

    Is There Something Wrong?

I am a month out today, and have never vomited, not even right after surgery. Which is a miracle, because normally i react badly to anesthesia. But i'm grateful, since i vomited almost daily for the last couple of months with the band. Everything seems to taste the same to me, but one Protein Shake that i loved pre-op make me dump last weekend. That was the first, and probably last, time that i will have that particular shake. Horrible, horrible feeling. It's different for everyone, i suspect. I still feel hunger, which is one thing i hoped to lose.

    Whats Wrong With Me?/

I'm taking Nexium, and i still feel hungry quite often. I'm kind of sad, i was hoping that the hunger would go away with this surgery.
  8. Sleeved 10/8. Dropped 18 pounds and stalled out - scale dropped 1/4 pound this morning, so hopefully it is moving again! Having a great time at the gym. Between my personal trainer and my new workout partner, i'm getting stronger every day! Hope everyone else is doing well.

    Whats Wrong With Me?/

Yup, i had a dumping episode just yesterday after making an unwise food choice. Dizzy, light headed, fast pulse, clammy skin, and digestive tract very unhappy. It all cleared once i passed the offending food, which didn't take long.

    Whats Wrong With Me?/

Geez, i was glad to get rid of the band and go to the sleeve because all i did with the band was throw up. So happy that i am almost a month out and haven't had the urge to vomit even once. However, i am also finding i am more hungry than i expected to be. Having to fight through that.
  11. and of course i hit my 3 week stall right after joining this challenge. LOL Haven't lost anything in the last 10 days!

    Full Body Lift?

confused about why someone would have no nipples after a breast lift? They generally remove them and place them centrally once the lift is done. It can impact breast feeding, though, due to cutting the connections to the milk ducts. My lower body lift cost about $14K once all was said and done. It did not include the thigh lift done on the inner thigh, or any upper body work. I also didn't need any lipo, which was awesome. Surgeon was very impressed with my ab muscles, i give all the credit for those to my personal trainer. The lift did help smooth my butt and outer thighs, and i have a tummy that a teenager would be proud to show off, minus all the surgical scars from my emergency band removal and now the sleeve. But it's worth it, and they'll fade. I will be having a breast augmentation at the end of the month, and that is going to run $6200. Cohesive silicon gel under the muscle. I was thinking of going with something in the 325-350cc range, but everything i've read says that most women regret not going bigger. So maybe as much as 425cc? Have to decide that on the 15th of this month. I do have a link to a plastic surgery forum where i have before and after photos, but they are graphic. PM me for more info if you want to view them.

    Full Body Lift?

I had a lower body lift 15 months after i was banded. Best thing i've ever done (other than wls), but boy, it was an experience! I have had multiple surgeries in my lifetime, and even though i "knew" what was involved with the lift, i have been spoiled by my ability to bounce back quickly from previous operations. I will admit, for the first week or so post-op, i wondered what in the H*(( i'd done to myself. It wasn't pain, so much. The second day in the hospital (i was in for 3 nights), the nurse came to see if there was something wrong with my morphine pump. Nope, i just don't use it. But getting out of bed that first time - wow. Normally, i'm the one that is doing laps around the nurses station as soon as they let me out of bed. After the lift, just getting to the toilet and back made me sleep for 4 hours. I was lucky to be getting to the end of the hall and back by the time they let me leave the hospital! My mobility was severely impacted. That being said, at my first post-op visit, the day after i left the hospital, was my first view of my post-op self, and i've never looked back. Having that nasty hanging mess of skin gone made me feel like a new person. My surgeon took off six pounds, varying from about 9 inches wide in front to about 3-4 inches in the back. Made my tush look nicer, too, although i've never been cursed with pancake butt. By the second week post-op, i was pretty much back to normal. Slept in a recliner for 10 days, and then in the guest bed with strategically placed pillows for a few more. I have several dogs, so part of that was self-preservation. Feel free to contact me privately for more information. val

    Martial Arts/ Abs Question

So is mine. Did they not give you a contact number/email address for questions like these? I would think you'd be fine for regular ab work, but i'd be worried about damaging the stomach, if you were kicked there hard.

    Weight Training

Free weights will develop all the stabilizer muscles much better than machines. Also, machines force you into a certain range of motion, which may not work for everyone. Definitely ease into it, and proper form is key. Doing a lift incorrectly with too much weight can set back your fitness goals significantly. Can you see a trainer for a couple of sessions to get an evaluation and some basic, personal feedback?

    Martial Arts/ Abs Question

I've never done martial arts, and can't speak to being kicked in the stomach. It doesn't sound pleasant. However, i'm 3.5 weeks post-op and back to my normal abs routine, which is basically ab work every other day. Planks, side planks, pushups, hanging leg raises, hanging knee raises, etc. No problems here. The first couple of times i did hanging stuff, it pulled at the incision site, but wasn't painful. I was given the go-ahead for full exercise at 3 weeks. If you have questions, maybe you could ask your doc?

    Recovery Time ?

I had my band out separately, before being sleeved, so my experience may not be the same as someone doing the revision in one surgery. After having the band in, recovery was pretty easy though i had some gas pains, and my port bothered me. But the port bothered me until it was removed. Removal of the band was done as an emergency surgery, but the recovery was very easy. Again, the port incision (from removal) was the worst spot, and i lamented the new scars on my recently tucked tummy. But i was able to eat broth more easily than i had eaten anything in 2 months, and the hardest part was staying out of the gym for a month. Getting sleeved was actually easier on my than having the band out, but that was probably because i had been in pain and unable to eat sufficiently for 2 months prior to the removal. I was up trotting the halls the evening i was sleeved, and have had an amazing recovery. Feel so much better than i did at any point during the 17 months of being banded.

    How Many Times Did You...

I was sleeved 10/8, and i am currently 3.5 weeks out. Doing great, recovery has been easy, and no complaints with the clinic. Good luck with your surgery, soon you'll be a loser.

    Oatmeal

On my heavy workout days, i have steel-cut oats for breakfast. I like the texture better than rolled or instant oats, and they have a better glycemic index (slow carb digestion). I don't add sweetener, use a little dried fruit, non-fat milk, and unflavored protein powder. It comes up to about 250 calories, 12 grams of protein, and keeps me full for hours. Gives me plenty of energy for my workout, too. Then i make sure to eat high-protein, low carb the rest of the day.

    Plastics

I had a lower body lift after i lost 50 pounds. I've also had 7 babies, and the apron was killing me. Best thing i ever did! I lost 2 pant sizes, just getting that nasty excess skin off my mid-section. My surgeon took off just over 6 pounds. I am having the same surgeon do an augmentation for me at the end of the month. I'm going with silicon cohesive gel, somewhere between 350 and 425ccs, under the muscle. I have very, very scant breast tissue, and over the muscle or saline would be too obvious on me. However, i have a friend with saline unders that are gorgeous! I couldn't get the lift at the same time as the augmentation because of the time it would require. My surgeon is meticulous, and doesn't like to have a patient under for 8 hours or more. As it was, there was a problem with the lymph nodes in my groin which required a partial dissection and biopsy while i was on the table, and i wound up being under anesthesia for 9.5 hours. I suspect that played a part in how rotten i felt for the entire first week. I have been thrilled with my results, 9 months later still not used to the lack of belly. Bought my first bikini ever, and i am looking forward to having the augmentation as well.

    Strength Training Questions

I do 3-4 sets of each exercise, weight heavy enough that i reach failure in 8-10 reps. 2-3 exercises for each body part/muscle group that i'm working, and i can get done in 45 minutes to an hour, including my warm-up. Generally, it's something like this: chest day, for instance, i'll do: flat dumbbell presses incline dumbbell presses superset with incline flyes decline smith machine presses superset with dumbbell curls then i will do a couple of sets of ab exercises, and i'm done That hits all three sections of the chest, plus my arms.

    Your "large" Incision?

I have 2 that are about the same, one on the left and one on the right. The other 3 are tiny, but those 2 are each about an inch, inch and a quarter long.
