I had a gastric band placed in December of 2010. It was effective for a year, and i lost over 50 pounds. However, it slipped. Then slipped again. And finally had to be removed in May 2012 as an emergency procedure, as it was restricting the center of my stomach. My surgeon at the time refused to do a sleeve during removal, citing the probability of further complications. Insurance would not approve a revision once the removal had been done, since i no longer met the requirements for bariatric surgery. But i was slowly gaining back the weight.
In October, i flew to San Diego to have a sleeve done by Dr Ortiz at OCC. I am currently 12 days post-op, and losing the weight i gained after losing my band. I hope to be at my maintenance weight in a couple of months.
Recovery has been quick, and i feel better now than i ever did with the band.
