I guess it all varies by surgeon, just like pre and post op diets. My doc said i could return to cardio as soon as i felt like it, and no restrictions in the gym after 3 weeks. But i was highly active and very fit before surgery, and i heal quickly. So definitely listen to what your doctor recommends, for your particular case.

Going Alone To Mexico?
shamr0ck replied to KickRocks's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I went alone. Flew to San Diego on Oct 7, they picked me up and took me across the border, got me checked in to the TJ Marriott (very nice hotel, loved the chicken broth). Had surgery on Oct 8, and flew home on Oct 11. No problems at all, but i never left the hotel without an escort from the clinic. Most of the folks i interacted with spoke fairly decent English, and i have passable Spanish. -
Can You Contact Your Family From The Marriott In Tijuana? How Will This Work?
shamr0ck replied to Diamondeyed's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I didn't use the phone, i just sent email to my hubby. After i got back to the hotel post surgery, we used our iPads for a little Facetime. Don't miss the broth at the hotel, it's fantastic! -

How Many Days After Surgery Were You Able To Get Out Of The House?
shamr0ck replied to fgotr121's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to fly home from Mexico on day 4 post op, which involved walking through airports, but not much else. Day 5, i was out and about but hubby did the driving. On day 6, i had to take my hubby to the airport, and stopped at the grocery on the way home. Been following my normal schedule pretty much since then, which means running errands, housework, taking care of my pets, and going to the gym. -
Well, i do heavy weights, not light. But i work all body parts, total of 5 days a week lifting. And i do cardio 5-6 days, generally anywhere from 20-45 minutes, depending on my weight training.

Question For Ex-Banders Who Are Already Post Sleeve. Need Your Pov! Since You've Experienced Both What Are Your Thoughts And Experiences?
shamr0ck replied to buttrfli1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I will be 3 weeks post op with my sleeve tomorrow. My band came out in may in an emergency situation after slipping to the middle of my stomach. It was not the first time it had slipped. I managed to lose 50 pounds with the band, but gained back 17 before deciding to revise. I have felt better with the sleeve than I ever did with the band, and I have lost the 17 pounds already. I wish I had chosen the sleeve from the beginning. -

What's Your New Addiction?
shamr0ck replied to SkinnyMinnie2Be's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded almost two years ago, and i traded my addiction to food for an addiction to the gym. Started going right at six weeks post op, and i'm still going 6 days a week. As the weight came off, i also got addicted to shopping for new clothes. Then my band slipped, readjusted, slipped again, and then had to be removed in an emergency surgery. And the weight crept back. And i realized that the shopping was a problem. So now i'm still addicted to the gym, but looking for something to replace my shopping addiction. -
Safety In Tijuana, Mx
shamr0ck replied to Tiffany D's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I also went to Dr Ortiz, and i went alone. The driver picks you up at the airport, gets you across the border and checked in to the hotel. You are not left alone at any point going from US to Mexico. For myself, other than going to the clinic, i didn't leave the hotel. And the Marriott is very nice. Coming back, you do have to leave the driver and walk through customs, but you get out right at the gate, and there is security everywhere. Short walk through, show your passport, scan your bags, and the driver picks up back up just up the block. Very easy and no concerns. good luck! I have no regrets. -
Those Who Had Surgery 10/8 10/9 10/10
shamr0ck replied to sacharliem's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I was sleeved on 10/8. I had a previous failed band, removed in May, so this was technically a revision for me. I'm now down to the lowest weight i achieved with the band, having lost the 17 pounds or so i gained since its failure and removal. I feel great, recovery has gone well, and i feel so much better than i ever did with the band! So happy i had this done! Hope everyone else is doing well. -
Mexico Octosleevers! Add Your Name, Date And Surgeon!
shamr0ck replied to zenoosh's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I was sleeved in Mexico by Dr Ortiz on October 8. Great experience, no complaints, would do it again. Down 5 pounds on my pre-op diet (3 days liquids), and 11 more since surgery. -

Thanksgiving Day Challenge
shamr0ck replied to AKSleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would also like to be at or below 150 by Thanksgiving. For me, that's about 12 pounds. I'll play! -
The clinic weighed me right before taking me back for surgery, then about 24 hours later. I'd gained 9 pounds in that time. But don't worry, it's all the fluids they pump into you to keep you hydrated and functional. 4 days later, i was down 2 pounds from my pre-op weight.

Surgery Tomorrow, What Should I Expect My First Month?
shamr0ck replied to KLNorrod's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery 10/8. The first 24 hours are kind of a blur, but i remember as soon as i was awake, i asked if i could get up and walk. LOL I was doing trips up and down the hallway, waving at a couple of others in their rooms that were sleeved the same day i was. Never saw anyone else up and about, though. Day 2, transferred to a hotel (i had my surgery in Mexico) and stopped taking pain meds. Sipped Water constantly, didn't really get much else in for the first 3 days, except for some really excellent chicken broth. Came home day 4, and took meds for the flights. I've had a bit of an issue with acid, although i'm taking a PPI every day. Also, the largest incision site, where they pulled out the excised tissue, stills pulls a bit when i roll over or stretch. Currently transitioning to soft foods, still drinking Protein 2x a day. I went back to the gym at 1 week, still on restricted activity until the 3 week mark, when i will get back on my usual gym schedule with weights as well as cardio. I was previously banded, so my weight was relatively low when i was sleeved, and my recovery may not be typical. But i'm feeling great, with no regrets! -

Just Wondering....has Anyone Reached Goal Without Any Exercise?
shamr0ck replied to Sassafras's topic in Fitness & Exercise
If your calorie restriction is great enough, it is possible to reach goal without exercise. However, i doubt you will like the way you look or feel if you go that route. Perhaps as you lose the weight, you will find that you feel more like moving your body? I freely admit that after being banded, i traded my food addiction for an exercise addiction. -
Cardio for 1/2 an hour 7 days a week won't hurt you. And hour might be pushing it. Are you mixing in some resistance training too? That will help you keep muscle mass and help with saggy skin from too much muscle loss. Before the VSG, i was working out 6 days a week. 10 hours of strength training, and 4-5 hours of cardio. 5 days were lifting, one day was only light cardio, and one day i took completely off for rest and recovery. I'm gradually working back up to that schedule again.
-
I am doing well, thank you! I'm down 10 pounds from the day of surgery, 15 from the start of pre-op diet. Slowly transitioning to soft foods, and i get full so quickly! I'm one of the lucky ones that has no problem getting my liquids in, but i suspect that Protein Shakes are going to be a long-term tool to get enough Protein. I have been back in the gym since my 1 week milestone, and i'm very much looking forward to having all restrictions lifted next week.

Mootopia. Yup, could be the problem. I just finished a shake made with mootopia, and my intestines are doing that "danger" rumbling. 2.5 weeks post-op here, and no sharting yet, though it's been a near thing a couple of times.
