I would like to hear your 2 cents...
ledgins replied to 54Shirley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When my husband and I go out we share an entree..that way I don't waste half of mine and it helps him cut calories too!! We just add an extra soup or salad..depending on how hungry I am feeling at the time. -
I know bread is going to be tough, but Is Pizza out of the question?
ledgins replied to Wheeler5051's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can eat thin crust pizza too. I usually just eat about half of the crust and pull the toppings off the other half. I eat this with a salad and don't feel bad about it. I have lost 60 pounds since Sept. 2010 so I must be doing something right -

ledgins replied to sun1970king's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too love pickles.. I have 8cc's in my band and have no problems eating them. I use them for a snack in place of chips when I am craving something salty. Good luck to you. -

Week 3 Post Op Eating too much
ledgins replied to pibirdman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds to me like you are not eating enough. Your body needs calories to boost your metabolism. Don't return the clothes just yet. Hang in there. -
My dr. also gave me a card to carry....I just added it to my stack. I now have 3 cards to carry. 1 for lap band, 1 for insulin pump, and 1 for pacer/defib. lol....just carry the card and you should not have any more problems. I have set off alarms at amusement parks, courthouse and police dept.

Is salad a slider food?
ledgins replied to ledgins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the replies. I have 3 more weeks of soft foods...then I can have a salad... -
I am currently still on liquids and can't have it right now, but was just wondering if salad is a slider food. I have been craving salad and trying to figure out how long it is going to be before I can eat some. Before surgery I was sick of the sight of salad, now it is all I can think about!!!!

ledgins replied to missgypsy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is that really baby food? Someone asked me if I was going to eat baby food when I get to move to the next step. I will probably just blend my own. -

ledgins replied to lovemysgt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello..I am 40 and live in Western NC...I was CNA 2 and Med Tech for 20 years in nursing home, also worked PT in medical records. MD took me out of work several years ago due to bad heart. Hope to go back to work at some point. Until then I am a stay at home mom of a 15 year old and I handle the paper work side of my husbands lawnservice business. -
I licked the butter off the knife! WTF!?
ledgins replied to candy rain's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's too funny...I am 10 days post op and last night I found myself sucking the BBQ sauce off of the leftover pork chops that I had fixed my family for supper. I fed the meat to the dogs, but just the taste of the BBQ sauce was awesome!!! Truth be known if I knew for sure it would not have gotten stuck or made me throw up I would have eaten the meat too!!! I keep hearing this to shall pass..man I wish it would hurry on by!!!!LOL -
have any of you wished you did gastric bypass instead
ledgins replied to racheyrach's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The choice for me was easy. My surgeon said band or nothing. Due to health issues he would not do the bypass. He told me himself that the trauma to the body with bypass is really bad. I a happy with his honesty and glad that he did the band for me. I am trying to lose enough weight to get a heart transplant. This surgery for me was a life or death situation. On the other hand I have several friends that have had bypass. One of them has done great, one had a bad case og dumping syndrome and is now severly mal nutritioned and undeweight. Another one has had nothing but one illness on top of another including kidney stones and a leak in her intestines that led to e-coli posioning. The decision is a personal choice for everyone. Which ever you decide will be the right one for you. -
Due to other health conditions the dr recommends that I ahve one every year.. I will get one

Restrictions and so on...
ledgins replied to precious85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I get the EAS shakes at wal-mart. I can get them their in the 4 pack, so I can change up the flavor. I did get a case of the choc flavored at Sam's...so I got strawberry and vanilla at wal mart.. I get bored with one flavor to easy. The Isopure I have been wanting to try...just have not got it yet. the Viactive chews are as good as the other posters say. I get the caramel flavored ones and I also get SF chocoltes that I will treat myself with sometimes in the evenings. Hope this helps. -

Help!! banded on 9/21 and eating solids!!!
ledgins replied to HAD_ENOUGH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too was banded on 9/21.. Yesterday was the first time i really felt hungry. I have added 2 protien shakes between meals. I also bought some creamy Soups, they seem to fill me up more than regular broth base soups. Campbells has a large variety of flavors, so you don't have to eat cream of chicken all the time. I know they have more carbs, but since I am still on liquids I am not getting any other carbs. I am also worried about weight gain before my first fill, which isn't until 10/21. I have lost 41 pounds so far and don't wont to gain it back, but without some restriction I don't know how much longer I can keep it off.. Good Luck to you and don't be so hard on yourself..it will be ok.. God Bless -
Have never heard of quinoa.. but will have to look for it and give it a try...thanks for the ideas..always looking for new things to try:thumbup:

I know puree foods are not always the best looking dishes. However after working 6 years as a cook in a nursing home I learned some tips to make them a little better. Whatever meat you are pureeing use that kind of broth(not water) chicken broth in chicken of turkey, beef broth in beef or you can use the low fat gravy in a jar for the liquid. If you get them to thin use some instant potatoe powder to thicken them back up. Use plenty of seasoning. We even went to the extreme sometimes of putting the puree in a pastry bag and made the food back to it original shapes. I know it is still not the same , but it is only temporary. Somethings don't have to be pureed to qualify for the mushy stage...Grits. oatmeal, potaotes, cottage cheese, yogurts, applesauce, banana's, jello and creamed soups. Campbells has a large variety of creamed soups. I had cream of shrimp yesterday and it was good. I know we are not prfect and I did take a few bites of regular food before I read all these post and after thinking about what some of them said have decided it is not worth a "maybe" to eat food. I tried it my way for 39 years, so why not try it the docs way for a while, after all I have lost 40 pounds his way...Good Luck to you all.. -

I am supposed to be on mushies too....I did eat a bite of BBQ ribs last night, but I chewed it until it was almost liquid!! I also put some hamburger meat in the food chopper and mixed it with A-1 steak sauce.. It was pretty good too..but it was chopped very fine..couldn't imagine eating steak right now it is to tough to chew that well. -
Weight gain before or during your lady days ?
ledgins replied to hotsexyrunnerchick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Glad I am not alone.... It is a few days before my time and all I can think about is food!!!! I took a walk and found myself counting the resturants within walking distance..OMG....(their are 17 eating places within 3 miles of my house)...Finally settled on a couple pieces of SF Hershey Chocolate... Only 6 days post op and afraid to eat to much...
