    Cankles

Okay this is a biggie for me. This morning as I was getting dressed, I was putting on my socks. I gasped at what I saw!! I no longer have cankles I have ankles!!!!! I can see the bones!!!! Yay!!!! Never in a million years. Just wanted to share. Deb
  2. Good advice Lissa, I have a friend that recently had her VSG. She is obsessing over eating solids. I try to keep her focused and distracted and she soon forgets. It helps that we work together and have lunch together. Lunch for me is a RTD Protein shake. (Yes even at a year plus out I still have one a day) She brings cottage cheese or a shake as well. (As I rarely do lunch. I do Breakfast and dinner.) As long as I re direct the conversation about food to what new and exciting happenings in our lives she is good. I too was too scared to eat solids as fearful of a leak and how certain foods can get stuck in the staple line. Was not going to let that happen. I followed the post op diet to a "T". Everyone will do just fine... Wish all of you great success with your sleeves!!!!! Deb

    Seasoned Sleevers

Amen Foxbins......I too don't push my sleeve. I eat 1/2 cup of cottage cheese. No more than 3 ounces of chicken, fish or beef. This is what I have found that keeps me in check. I do eat veges, just can't fit much in after eating the Protein. I do not deny myself any sweets either. I just consume less, way less. I have found that over time I can't tolerate sweets as often or as much as I could pre-sleeve. I don't have a desire to have desssert every night. I can't eat bread. It feels way too heavy. Rice and Pasta I am holding off until I am ready. Not sure if it will feel heavy or leave my sleeve feeling too tight. Like overeating. I too think sure I can eat more but why would I??? I am so grateful that I have this tool. When you know what you can and can not eat. It makes the food choices much easier. (Found out at Easter, I can not tolerate a reeses Peanut Butter cups anymore. Way too sweet and it tasted aweful!!!! Blessing in disguise maybe????) You will figure out what works for you. Deb

    Worried About Weight Loss

Just keep doing what you are doing. Walking is an excellent form of exercise. Until your surgeon releases you to do more strenous exercise. I hit stalls all the time. They go just as quickly as they come. Try to be patient the loss will start up again. I was in a stall for a month and bam! The scale started moving again. Liquids are our friend. Be sure to get plenty of fluids in. Don't skip meals and be sure to get in the protein too. Good luck!! Deb
  7. I eat protein, a lot of it. (Or I atleast try 80-90 grams) Baked, grilled fish is common in our house. Chicken, turkey and lean ground beef. I do eat steak as well. I do limit the amount of carbs. Still try to keep between 20 and 30 grams a day. My caloric intake has increased a bit. I am still losing. If I had my way, my meals would consit of all protein. I do eat some veges. I love, love, love watermelon. Breakfast is usually one egg either scrambbled or hard boiled. 1/2 cup of cottage cheese. Snacks I try to keep a container of mixed nuts and take a handful in a baggie as a snack. and some fresh fruit and veges to munch on. That usually will satisfy the need to have something crunchy. Instead of potato chips I can eat baby carrots and or a few slices of cucumber. It is all a matter of what works for you. Some can do more carbs than others. Some do all protein. The most important thing (To me anyway) is exercise. That is what incorperated with the "diet" ( I prefer to call it the new lifestyle) is what makes everyone successful with the sleeve. Best of luck!!! Have a stellar weekend everyone!!!!! Deb

    New Friend Issues.

Yes I have been going through that for the last seven months. A lot of men where I work have been checking me out. At first it was annoying. Now I just laugh it off. A year ago none of them would've given me a second look. Its okay, I don't let it bother me. In fact, It makes me laugh now. Deb

    Almost There

I haven't been around much I know. I have been trying to get to goal. Since I have started to measure my meals and fluids again I have dropped three pounds this week. I did forget just how important this was for me. I also lowered my carb intake to twenty upped the protein to just under 90. That and doing more weights. So just eight more to go!!! I am so excited!! I have an appointment with the surgeon for my one year on April 9th. I hope I will be close to goal! Going back to basics wasn't so bad. Hope everyone has a stellar weekend!!

    Crazy Nsv

Hi everyone! I just wanted to stop by and share this crazy NSV. I was with my mom and husband, we were at a dealership looking around. The sales man approached and asked if he could assist. I was looking at a truck and my mom an husband were looking at a sedan. Well my mom joined me and my husband was talking with the salesman.( Anyway to shorten this story) the salesman thought my mom and husband were married and I was their daughter. When my husband revealed that I was in fact his wife the salesman responded, "lucky you" I was laughing so hard it was awesome!! My mom was shaking her head. I'm 46 my husband is 55 and my mom is 76. All I have to say is priceless.

    Ladies - Starting Weight 200

I started slightly higher (232) 5' 1. I now weigh 147. I'm shooting for 135 for my goal weight. The surgeon wants me to be 122. That would be uber thin for my frame. I'm not a small frame but more a medium. If I land at 130 that would be great but if not that is okay. It is what it is. I will be happy where I land in the end. Don't stress it ladies. Your body will let you know where it wants to be. Good luck to you both!!!! Deb

Does Anyone With A Sleeve Run?

I started running last year. I now run every chance I get. On the weekends when I'm not working I do 2 miles in the am and 2 in the pm. I never thought I would be able to run again. Nor did I ever think that I would see the other side of the 200's. The journey has been a great one for me. I re-discovered life!!!! It is sooo amazing!!!! Wishing everyone much success on your journey!!!! Deb

    Almost A Year Out.............

Thank You!!! That means so much!! You will no doubt post stats like these or even BETTER!!!! I love my sleeve. This has been one decision that I do not regret ever making. I would do it again in a New York minute!! Granted I have had trial and error, however no regrets what so ever!!!! Good luck on your journey. Keep us updated. Deb
  19. Hi everyone! Just checking in. I see that I am getting closer to the one year mark. I am soooooo close to making my goal!!! YAY!!!! I thought it was going to be much harder than it has been. When I had 20 pounds left to lose 3 of it came off when I didn't stress it. Now that I'm close to the last 10 I am getting a little nervous that it will be so hard to get it off. I just try not to think about the last few pounds but I try to concentrate on my ultimate goal of being healthier than I was a year ago. I have an appointment with my surgeon in April for my one year. I am so hoping to be at goal. But hey, if not so be it. It will happen when it happens. I have seen that when I dwell on that one pesky pound that keeps holding on for weeks at a time, I have a harder time losing it. When I just go about my day and I step on the scale at the end of the week and see it is gone..... Well I just have to dance...I went from weighing everyday in the begining to once a week. I will weigh once a month when I reach goal. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. Keep rockin' your sleeve!!!!!!!! Deb

    Almost A Year Out.............

yea I did the same thing. I was so hell bent on getting to 122. Then it hit me if I was super small I could easily see that for me. However I am not a super small person. So I have re-set my mind into the realistic goal of 135. That is much more attainable to me then the 122. But if I get there we will see how I look at that weight. It may or may not suit my medium frame. But when I reach 135 I may start maintence. I will have to re-evaulate my situation when I get there. We are all different. I may get with my PCP and get her take. We have all done such an amazing job on reaching the last milestone on our journey. Lets see where it takes us. Deb

    Almost A Year Out.............

I know exactly what you mean. LOL... My personal goal is 135 to and I'm 46.Imagine that....We started out at about the same weight as well.... Surgeon's goal for me is 122. I don't think I will see 122. To me that is too little. So I am shooting for the 135 mark. I'm only 5,1'. and my build is on the medium side. 135 should be just right. If I had a super small frame then I can see 122. Size 12's are too big in the waist and butt for me. 10's are a little too tight in the hips. I am between sizes. I never would've thought I would be wearing 12's a year ago. Starting size this time last year was 20 in pants. Tops were XXL. Now 12 pants and small in tops. No more lane bryant.... Sorry nothing against lane bryant just like shopping coldwater creek now. Deb

Blue Cross Blue Shield Vs United Health Care

I had UHC and the policy that I had covered two bariatric surgeries in your lifetime. You may want to call your coordinator to get the specifics. UHC (to me) is one of the fastest in getting approved. I now have AVMED, which I called and asked if I have any issues, complications if it would be covered. They stated yes that it would be. Good luck on your journey!!! Keep us updated. Deb

    Burbon Chicken

I just made Burbon chicken. It is wonderful. I wanted to try this receipe however it was carb loaded for my taste. So I subsituted the brown sugar with splenda brown sugar and omited the apple juice. Not sure how much the carbs were lowered. By using the receipe the way it is the carb count is 23.4 grams. So I figured what the hay, and give it a shot. Also I used the low sodium soy sauce. (no rice or noodles. I did use green pepper, mushrooms, celery, onion and broccoli. Once sauce is ready place the veges in and simmer for 5-8 minutes. Then add chicken and simmer another 10-15 minutes) Enjoy!!! Deb 2 lbs boneless chicken breasts, cut into bite-size pieces 1 -2 tablespoon olive oil 1 garlic clove, crushed 1/4 teaspoon ginger 3/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes 1/4 cup apple juice 1/3 cup light brown sugar 2 tablespoons ketchup 1 tablespoon cider vinegar 1/2 cup Water 1/3 cup soy sauce 1 Heat oil in a large skillet. 2 Add chicken pieces and cook until lightly browned. 3 Remove chicken. 4 Add remaining ingredients, heating over medium Heat until well mixed and dissolved. 5 Add chicken and bring to a hard boil. 6 Reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes
