October 2010 (Bootiful Bandsters) Thread
mslissa5 replied to Alisomniac's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi October bandsters! I was banded 10/12/10. Besides the tenderness at the incision sites and a pain in my left side when I take a deep breath, I am doing fine. I have been reading how most people's appetite goes away for a little while post surgery. Not mine! I am starving! I am waiting for the nurse to call and maybe advance my diet to pureed. I just had a yogurt but am still hungry and weak. UGH! I hope she calls soon! -
Mbesha01, I submitted 6 months of weights on a diet, 1 weight for 2 previous years, a letter from my primary stating the need for this surgery and a diet history letter with weight loss or gains for the past 5 years. This letter also included co-morbidities and family history. That should do it with a BMI of 47 you shouldn't have any problems getting approved. I submitted on Monday and was approved two days later. Surgery scheduled 10/12/10! Hope this helps! Melissa

Hi Everyone, I am new here and this is my first post. I had my first visit to explain the lapband and all the dr.s visits. I have my psych, nutritionist, pulm., and cardiologist all on the same day which is great. I have been reading here that Aetna requires 90 days of monitored exercise and dieting. Can this be done with your PCP? I just don't want to be denied and am trying to do everything I can beforehand to prevent it. I hope this goes smoothly. I can't wait to get banded!

Daelynn, Before deciding to go with the Lap Band, I had been visiting my PCP for monthly monitoring on a diet plan. So, it kinda worked in my favor once I decided to go ahead with the surgery having 6 months of diet info to submit. Melissa

Hi, I had to do a little research on the Aetna website. There is a Clinical Policy Bulletin #0157 that explains in great detail the exact criteria to be approved for bariatric surgery. I am not sure what kind of insurance you have but it might be worth a look. Good Luck to you!

My doctor's office filed on Monday and I just got the call that my insurance company approved me. My surgery date is 10/12/10. I have to do pre-surgical testing tomorrow. That was soooo fast. My doctor does not require a pre-op diet and I am a little nervous about that. OMG! I am excited yet very nervous. I was not expecting my insurance to approve so quickly. Yay Aetna!
