This is my first blog post as a Bandster! I am 8 days post-op. I think I am adjusting pretty well. I cheated a lil’ today though, I had a small slice of cheesecake (damn it went down easy). I started felling hunger again yesterday; I only got 1 week of no hunger L I thought that a diet of sugar free pudding, Yoplait ® light and soup broth would result in dramatic weight loss, but I am only down 4 pounds since my pre-op appointment. My highest weight was 300 pounds and I weighed in at 284.7 today (after a little over 3 weeks of modified eating). I know I should be happy with these numbers but part of me just wants a little more. Hopefully in a few weeks I can begin exercising and speed it along. I’m a teacher and return to work Tuesday. I am a little afraid of how I am going to get away with my full liquids in front of others. I only told my 2 closest friends at work. I’m keeping this a little to myself this until I am sure I can do it. My own expectations are enough for me to deal with. I’m not really interested in other peoples. I began this journey over 2 years ago. I encountered some obstacles along the way, and can hardly believe I’m now banded! Until we meet again~~~M

BANDED on 8/26-went FINE!!
Jinky replied to bandongal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I first woke up I was a little confused and somewhat sore. I asked the nurse for pain meds right away because I am not one to needlessly suffer. My surgery started about 9:45 am and by the time they took me from recovery to ICU (apparently all bariatric patients spend the night in ICU there) it was between 2-3 pm and I was excited because One Life to Live was on. I had my morphine pump by then and was cool. I woke up at around 4:30 AM with a killer headache and asked for Tylenol, they didn't want to give it to me because they said the morphine should be enough, but it wasn't, so I insisted. First 2 days home I was pretty uncomfortable, but it gets a little more comfortable every day. I'm 9 days post op and took my daughter to the mall that Tuesday (5 days post op). So, so far so good. The worst part for me is the tightening in the mornings. I feel the band every morning, in fact it wakes me up and I have to change position. Good Luck  -
Hi Luke! I'm still healing from my banding, so I can't offer much advise as to living with it, or anything. I can tell you my reasons for choosing the band over bypass. #1, I was wary of the bypass procedure, #2 Needed the lesser healing time and lower risk I'm a single parent) and #3, while I know the band is meant to be permanent, I know that if need be it can be removed--bypass is permanent. I know people who have succeeded (and failed) with both. Maybe you should sit down and write a good old fashioned pro/con list? Good Luck!

I am one week post op, after a nearly 2 year journey to get banded. I cannot believe I've finally done it (or that now the truly hard work begins)! I am 31 year old single working mom. The hardest part of this never ending liquid phase is cooking for others...I'm sure all that have to prepare food for their families agrees on that :scared2: Well, I just wanted to introduce myself and say hey

Hi! I'm new too. Good luck on your journey!

Congratulations! Being able to do things with my DD was my main reason for being banded too. She thinks I don't like rides because at Six Flags I always sit and wait while the others ride. The truth is I'm afraid of not being able to fit in the rides restraints and having to get off (it happened once on a kiddie coaster and I was HUMILIATED). Congrats on your weight loss, great job!

Congratulations! I am an 8/26/10 bandster too! -
Wow, what a coincidence! What do you do? I feel better standng up, so I think returning to work will be just fine. I might even make a point of doing the 3 filghts of stairs whenever I'm free (baby steps, ya know?) If I drink more Water I'm less hungry, but then I'm up all night peeing. Thanks for the welcome and good luck to you also!

Thanks! Do you have an idea of when you'll be banded?

I am healing pretty well, adjusting life on liquids (although I cannot wait for some variety). My journey took a VERY long time and I cannot believe I am actually BANDED. Not telling many people, this is private matter for me. My expectations are bad enough to deal with---not interested in the expectations of others.

All time high and feeling low
Jinky replied to gracierose's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I reached my all time high time while waiting for clearance. I could not believe when the scale read 300 pounds! I think its pretty common for those of us with weight issues to run a gauntlet of emotions relating to our weight and body image. Just know you are traveling down the right path, and when one is on the right path things will inevitably come to block us. Enjoy your family this weekend, and don't let anyone or anything knock you off your path. -
I really want to try Zumbra, but I am ashamed to be the fat un-fit chick in the class. My 6YO daughter asked for the "Dance Your Ass Off" workout DVD and is having such fun with it. I can't wait to heal up and try it with her.

I mix the generic brand (CVS) of Benefiber in hot broth 3x/day, it makes a HUGE difference. Good luck.
