Looking for September 2010 Bandsters
missjoany replied to CSinTX's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree my shoulder pain was very bad. My belly pain was not much better. The first night I was home after surgery, it took me almost two hours to get out of bed, and I was sore everywhere. But about day 4 it started to get better. And the liquid Lortab only took the edge off the pain for me. Hang in there, it should get better. If you do not feel any improvement in a few days though you should check in with your surgeon. Keep in touch. -

Hello fellow North Carolinian! You are awesome going back to work so soon. Very few people know what is going on with me too. When I go out to lunch with my friends (once a month) this one girl says things like don't take her order, she doesn't need to eat anything. And she is my friend! I had panicked for two days following surgery, literally wanted to give my kitties back to the shelter and check into rehab. But after talking to my case manager, she talked me down, me and kitties are still here. I had one night where I thought I was starving, and decided I probably did not have enough to eat for the day. So I am counting calories, protein and carbohydrates- losing 1-2 pounds a week will be just fine with me. Let us know how it went back at work. I am kinda scared of that. Not sure what food to bring etc. -

The liquid Lortab didn't agree with me either. I was able to keep down 1/2 a dose. It took me a few days but I think it was keeping my bowels from moving. Hope you are feeling better now. -

Thinking wonderful thoughts for you. A few people said they didn't have any pain, so maybe you will be one of the lucky ones. For some of us, it was a bear, truthfully. I had to use my CPAP because my oxygen level kept setting off bells and whistels. So I had to spend an extra day in the hospital, but I think that was a blessing as I did not know it was going to hurt that much. But here I am, feeling better. Can't wait to hear from ya. Back at ya, with huggs. -

Who was brave not me! My friend who had the surgery in Feb and lost 63 lbs ( and now training for a 5K) kept asking me if I was excited, but I was scared. I had so much liquids in me, I had to pee about every 15 mins, so I took the day off before surgery, just to make sure I had everything I needed. But since I normally work nights, getting up at 0345 wasn't too bad, I was just nervous and talked like a magpie all the way to the hospital. I felt really bad for a few days, but am managing pretty good now. I only had one experience of super diarrhea, that if you were behind me I would have mowed ya down. But now I can tell if I gotta go, I think the pain meds binded me up. So I stopped taking the pain meds on post op day 5. Good luck to everyone and will talk on the other side. -

I'm glad someone else experienced the same issues I did. Anyone who called or came over during the first few days after surgery, and I started crying and apologizing. I had a huge hunger yesterday but I seem to be managing it today. I found the 20 Oz isopure drinks- 42 G of protein- and I sip on those for several hours- and the pureed soups are heaven. In the bed I can feel the port so can't quite get comfortable yet, but it is coming along. My 20 lb kitties want me to pick them up so bad, so that will be my strength training goal. -

 Day 9 post op Glad to hear you are getting about. Ii'm having difficulty with the walking and need to go earlier in the day. Today was upper 90's and way too hot. I had a scare yesterday. For some reason I felt ravenous yesterday night (around 11:30pm) and lightheaded and dizzy. So I had some yogurt and a protein drink. Today I feel much better. I have been able to keep down pureed soups, without straining them, but as you said, eating very slowy. I think I may have not been getting enough to eat. I wasn't told to count calories, only protein and carbs. But will count some today and see where I stand. I am so envious you can sleep in your bed. I can only manage about two hours still, then back to the recliner again. I had a dream of putting a Lean Cuisine Spaghetti tv dinner in the blender. I'm trying to figure out how to take a movie of the kitties snoring, if so will send it to ya. Thanks for your inspiration. -

Howdy! I am originally from NJ but from Camden County. I am one week out today and yea my energy levels vary, I am having a hard time sleeping. I had some tomato soup today and some greek yogurt. I was thinking of using egg beaters to make soft scrambled eggs. Those are good. My neighbors brought some Chik Fillet chicken soup and I pureed it and it was really awesome but that will need to be a one time treat. I get the eggs and applesauce on week three. We are moving up the food chain. I think I have been feeling hungry. I fall asleep then wake up several hours later, and have had no water or anything, and feel really light headed, so I am trying to watch that. Glad you are feeling better. I will check out those pre op classes once I can drive. And I agree there is alot of paperwork. Keep in touch and tell us how your class went. -
Almost 2 years out from banding and feeling like a failure!

:redface:I just found this thread and am feeling kinda depressed. I was banded 7 days ago, and I understand how you feel. I am not quite sure how to go about doing the diet, but I think when I am feeling better will work with my nutritionist again. We had devised an eating plan where I lost 1 pound a week, and I had every meal planned in advance and bought my foods for the entire week and made a week's worth of meals then froze them. Then all my choices were made for the week. If I was left to my own devices, I would make unwise choices. I work nights and the guys eat out every night, so it's hard not to go to be one of the gang. I know how it feels to feel unworthy. I wonder why we feel that way. Maybe if we thought back to how we felt when we first go off the wagon. I always have some event happen then I use food for comfort then before I know it I am off and running. I discuss all this with my nutritionist who has even offered some books on emotional eating. Maybe we could all consider counseling. -

OK Here is the nutrition facts on a bowl of Chik Fillet Chicken Soup. 220 calories, 6 G fat, 1760 mg of Sodium, 30 G Carbohydrates, 12 G Protein. It could be worse, but I didn't want to say no thank you to the neighbor's thoughtfulness. I put the other half in the fridge, but it could be an option if you are stuck in a pinch (providing you carry your blender with you- hahah) -

My wonderful neighbors stopped by with some Chik Fillet Chicken Soup. That was such a nice gesture that I did not refuse it. I pureed it for one minute and it turned into such a wonderful cream soup, I could not believe it. I ate half the bowl and will save the rest for later. I am going to check out the calories, etc, on their web site, but this was a wonderful introduction to week two cream soups, and shows how awesome neighbors can be. I'm even thinking that might be the best way to eat that soup! -

Scarred4Life Congrats on the big day. We will be here for you. I think recovery has a lot to do also with how good of shape you were in as well. If you were used to exercising and have great core muscles that will help a lot with your recovery. I did not. I had been put on the night shift and only recently found out I had thyroid disease so I have not exercized in 6 months. Will be harder for me to recover. I did mention all this to my boss, because I work both Sat and Sun and am often there by myself and those are the busiest days of the week. I asked if I could come back to work on a Monday. Any way you could take a few extra days? On days 5 and 6 I had several episodes of diarrhea, not sure if there is any product to purchase in case there is an accident. sourmissg I had totally forgotten about the suggestion to dilute my juice- thanks. AnnaOz Congrats on going home- Yeee HAWW!! So cool that you have the energy to post so soon after surgery!! I hope you were able to sleep well. My first two attempts failed miserably and I was in pain. I try and sleep whenever the mood hits, sometimes 9:00 am or 3:30 am, I have only been lying down for maybe 3 to four hours, as I cannot get comfortable. Let me know if you discover any secrets of sleeping. sunny day Congrats on your surgery!! Yea, the pain was way more than I anticipated as well. The pain meds they gave me in the hospital did help. When I was lying in bed I did not feel it. When they got me up to walk and go to the bathroom, yikes! It was hard to keep myself walking. The gas pains started subsiding a bit maybe on day two. Good luck, can’t wait to hear more about your adventures. -

Can you believe two weeks has gone by?? I am on day 7 post op today. I hope my blood pressure has dropped on my first pre op visit on 09/23. Your BP was awesome! This morning I started back on my thyroid med and had to crush it. It tasted fine. Hope it’s just as effective. I am so impressed with your walking, you can be my inspiration. I walked for two minutes yesterday haha. So far this week I can only have yogurt, tomato soup, sugar free pudding. I was afraid to have the yogurt, so I had one teaspoonful and licked it slowly while kitties looked on. (They love the yogurt). Can’t wait to make some pudding. And I haven’t had pudding or jello in years, so thanks for the warnings, I will try and keep my head hunger in check. Hang in there girl, you sound like you have a handle on it all. Thanks for your thoughts. -

I feel the same, thank goodness for this site. I have told few people of my journey. The reason being we have one girl at work who had lap band surgery and one who had bypass and both had failed miserably and gained all their weight back. The comments from people are insensitive. I know this journey is a physical as well as a mental journey and I am glad everyone is on this thread to help us along. I have not heard from a soul since Wed, no email, FB, phone calls. It's like I do not exist anymore, but I have you guys. We can't wait to hear from you!! Good Luck. -

I think you should ask your nutritionist. I was an avid coffee drinker, but when I tried a few sips in the hospital I was very nauseous and not sure I am going to try it again anytime soon. I used alot of creamer too, so I might try switching to green tea - healthy too - and lots less calories. -

What about Decaf Coffee. I tried some coffee after surgery and I thought I was going to vomit for about an hour and haven't tried any since then. I agree I was told it was a diruetic and you already have enough issues getting fluids in. I think the hard part will be to remember no fluids 30 minutes before or after meals. -

So happy for you! My surgeon removed a hiatal hernia as well, so I have a tiny incision from that. I have pain if I press on the incision site- so I try not to do that . My kitties keep wanting to sit on my tummy. I called Lowes Foods and they delivered all the liquids, yogurt and protein drinks right to the house. It was awesome. I stopped taking any pain meds last night, but it has not been that bad. I just plugged in the treadmill and am going to try for a minute. I'm struggling with liquids as well, but starting tomorrow I can have Dannon probiotic yogurt drink and sugar free pudding which should help alot. It took a few days for the gas pains to subside a bit. Good luck with your liquids. I tried mixing some flavored Isopure with some water and drinking it in 2 ounce increments. And for some reason the grape juice they gave me in the hospital seems to be the only thing that really agrees with me. -

OMIGOSH I burped and hiccuped for four days and did not have a BM until the 5th day. I am actually afraid to get on the scale. I don't want to be disappointed. -

I has thought the same thing when I heard some folks were on a liquid diet for two weeks: If I cudda done it I wudda! DUH! I only had to do liquid diet for one day and even that was difficult. I did gain five pounds back before surgery and was told if I gained anymore the surgery might be cancelled so be careful, the doctor wants you to lose as much fat from your liver as possible before the surgery. -

I was told to be at the hospital by 0515 and surgery was scheduled for 0715. At 0630 I hadn't even been checked in yet. But it was a blur after that. The nurse took me to check in a bed, helped me into a gown, put warm fuzzy socks on, and they have heated blankets which was awesome. My friend took all my stuff and waited for me. I woke up in recovery and there was a big clock right in front of me: 0915. So it was not too bad. Except for the gain pains in the left shoulder. It wasn't mentioned for me to get GAS-X, but that might help. -

I will definitely check out the V8 soups. Tomorrow I get to have the full liquids, I can't wait to try the tomato soup. Something I had yesterday did not agree with me and I now have an upset tummy. I tried a BariWise Peach Tea and it was vile. It might have been that or their Beef soup. Both had 15 grams of protein though. Later on I had explosive diarrhea and woke up this morning with a tummy ache. So I am not gonna try those anymore. Will stick with the Isopure and cant wait for skim milk. Wil try some green tea later on today. -

It was the same for me, gas pain in my left side and really bad in my left shoulder. Whenever the nurse came around to take me for a walk it was awful. But I learned to get out on the right side of the bed, but get in on the left side, which made it better. I don't have diarrhea, but had my first teensy BM tonight. It's a start. Take it easy now for the next few days and recover. I was able to walk to the mailbox 2x time and gonna try the shower. You must have an iron constitution to be able to go back to work so soon. I have a stressful job that alot of the time I am there by myself Sat and Sun, and it just would not work if I wasn't feeling good. Keep in touch. You go girl!
