  1. OMIGOSH! So Glad to hear your problem has been relieved. On day two post op I was ready to give up my kitties and check into a convalescent home as the pain was so bad, but I woke up Wed and it felt better, and today better still. The pain meds only takes the edge off my pain (it could be worse). Kitties are still with me too. Had my first TOOT last night and my first BM tonight. So now you can enjoy your consomme, beef broth, grape juice and other clear liquids, and sugar free jello, which aren't bad at all. I finally could stand up long enough to make jello and gonna eat it inna few, but my main task for this evening is to try and take a shower. Wish me luck. Desiree1972 get back with us tomorrow and let us know how you are doing, I am so glad I found this board. Only one person knows about my procedure, so it's difficult not talking with people in "the know." I can't wait to hear if you are getting your fluids and getting about better tomorrow.

    Day 4 Post Op

Around 2:00 am I decided I wanted to try and sleep in the bed. It took me 15 minutes to lie down but I did it. Now getting up, took me two episodes of MASH before I could get up, and to tell the truth I was starting to panic as I did not take my cell phone into the bedroom and thought I would not be able to get out of bed because it hurt on my left side. I did not wear my CPAP machine, but snored myself awake so I knew I needed it, but it was waaaaayyyy over on the other side of the bed. Tonight I will try and get in bed on the right side instead of the left and wear my CPAP as well. Will let ya know. My drill sergeant Kim called me and told me to walk out to the mail box. I didn't think I could do it, but I did. I had one of those grabber thingies you see on TV and grabbed the newspaper without having to lean down. I had my cell phone in my pocket just in case. No, I did not give back my kitties, but they keep wanting to lay on my lap. I think the beef consomme is so much better than the chicken broth. Also I had some vegetable broth as well. I had to take the pain meds though, again, about 3 hours ago, I mean it still hurts, but the meds does tone it down a bit, I guess I'm more whimpy than some of you.
  3. Yea I looked for all less sodium soups, but you know, I did not check the Campbells Cream of Potato and Tomato for sodium, and I am so looking forward to trying them. I had high blood pressue in the hospital but they were able to get it down some (with the proper cuff). Thanks for the heads up, I will start checking sodium levels in my pureed foods next week when I start on them.
  4. On the supervised diet with my nutritionist I lost 1 pound a week for a total of 10 pounds and I was proud of that. Yes I gained 5 pounds back when I had to go home to attend to my moms funeral arrangements, but lost it again prior to surgery. Some of the prescribed diet is to ensure you loss as much fat around your liver as you can prior to surgery, but I'm sure some of it is supposed to show your committment to the program. My PCP physician also said she would help me in any way she could as well. She is the best too!! Good luck with stopping smoking. See if there is an alternative med that you insurance company will pay for. But I know you can do it! I too use the smaller salad plate and have given up sodas entirely. Giving up coffee was the hard one for me. Keep in touch, we can do this together.

    Day 3 Post Op

Yesterday was not a good day. I had problems keeping the pain meds down as they made me nauseous so I tried going with out them. As a consequence I was hurting, shallow breathing and on the verge of tears. I wanted to give my kitties back to the shelter as I felt I could not take care of them and check myself into a convalescent home. My case manager happened to call and advised me to try the liquid tylenol that I purchased at the hospital pharmacy. I mixed it with half a dose of the pain meds and I was able to keep it down. Around 630 PM I had my first Toot!!
  7. I also ordered from Bariatricchoice.com. They are in NC, so I get my order almost the next day. They have good broths, beef bouillon, teas and clear drinks each with 12-15 Grams of protein. BariatricEating.com - BE, Inc. The number one bariatric website for protein, vitamins, and success. has samples as well. Most of them I can't eat till week two however. I got flavor-free Isopure and mix it with beef bouillon and consomme. I can't wait till next week so I can have the cream of potato and tomato soup. This is day Day 3 Post Op so still drinking clear liquids. Apple Juice stays down well and Raspberry Isopure from GNC also (and it has 20 Grams of protein in each bottle).
  8. My doctor said maybe two weeks, depends on how You feel and if you feel you are ready to go back to work. You will know. When I can pick up my 20 lb Maine Coon Kitties and cuddle them, I know I will be feeling better.
  9. I only had to do the liquid diet one day too. (So we are three!) Thank goodness because it was really hard. I'm glad it was on my day off, I must have peed every 15 mins. I was starving by evening, then I discovered jello and that filled me up. I had lost 10 pounds then gained 5 back with my last visit to the surgeon and he was upset and said I need to lose it or my surgery might get cancelled. My only excuse was my mom had passed away the month before and food was not a high priority at that time. But it is scary how fast the weight can come back. Well I lost the 5 pounds (again) before the surgery. And the recovery process is hard. Today I was told I could start the protein supplements and have 64 ounces of liquid. This is difficult. I have a 20 ounce container of Ispure and it's not even half empty yet.
  10. Desiree1972 don't be hesitant to talk about your experiences, this is where we can all share not be judgemental. You know I had nurses and friends all asking me why I was breathing so hard, like I was racing and didn't really know. I hope everything turns out good for you. This is my third day post op, and I have not yet figured out how to get in the bed and spend most of my time on the recliner.
  11. I was banded around 0715 Sat 11 Sep, and I think I was in recovery by 0930. The doctor repaired a hernia while he was in there so I have two incisions. The most pain was in my left shoulder, I was told that was gas. I had to spend an extra night becuse my oxygen was low and I had a fever. I think it was a good idea. Most of my pain was from gas an on Sunday it WAS BAD!. I felt a bit better on Monday and was home by 6:00 pm. I couldn't keep the pain meds down so earlier today I felt kinda crappy. With everyone that called me on the phone I started crying cause I felt so bad. I had left the kitties with automatic feeder and water, but hated leaving them, and they were scared when I got home, and wouldn't come out for two hours. Once they figured out it was me, then they said REAL FOOD, Mom's home. I tried half a dose of pain med a little while ago and was able to keep that down. I too was told to start walking and that would help the gas dissipate. I can't wait to try some of those Sugar free bars. I had gotten some, but they don't taste that good. I will look for Dreyers and Crystal Light bars. My biggest problem right now is trying to keep the kitties from jumping on my tummy. My new life has begun!! My gal pal and drill sergeant just called and told me to walk on the treadmill for one minute. She had the surgery in Feb and has lost 63 lbs. Something for me to aspire to. Thanks for all the support, I will provide updates.
  12. Thank you for reminding me that I had some sugar free popsicles in the freezer. I am so hungry the day before surgery. Glad I took the day off from work.
  13. Ok tomorrow is the D day, at 0515, O dark 15, before the kitties even get up. Wish me well, and give me good thoughts. Everyone's story has been inspirational. I am doing the clear liquids prior to surgery and it is difficult. The more I drink the more I pee!! Got my bag all packed. Not sure if I will get any sleep tonight though.

    Looking for September 2010 Bandsters

How did it go. My preop was on Sep 2. I had injured my shoulder and couldn't move it and the hospital almost cancelled my surgery tomorrow but I assured them it would be better. And it is. Been doing laundry today, getting everything cleaned up. It is very difficult to do the clear liquids, as I am starving. I hope you have some great news for us and can tell me this hunger will subside.

    Looking for September 2010 Bandsters

My surgery is tomorrow and I am doing the clear liquids the day before. I am so hungry, I am faint, but I know I have to do this. Hopefully this time tomorrow I should be home in recovery.
  16. Once I had all the appropriate paperwork, and it was submitted to the insurance company, it took about 1 1/2 weeks to get the approval. As I stated earlier, I had much trouble with my patient coordinator, that kept saying, I never received your consult from nutritionist, or from behavioral consult, or stress test. So I made copies of everything myself and sent them in. Once I took charge, everything went alot smoother. Good luck and I hope you have better luck than I with your coordinator.
  17. :thumbup:My surgery date is Sep 11th. I almost was denied. When I went in for my final checkup I had gained 5 pounds. The only excuse I had was my mom had passed away and I didn't pay alot of attention to my food as I handled all the issues. But my surgeon advised as long as I didn't gain any more weight, it would be ok. I just went through Pre-op today. I am really scared, but know it will help me regain my health in the long run. I would have gotten everything done sooner if I had a better patient coordinator. He made all the appropriate appointments for stress test, xrays, etc, within one week of my initial consult, which was in April. However he never notified me, and also made the appointments in another city. In June I started getting irate calls from doctor's offices wanting to know why I have never called in. So I was my own patient coordinator, and set up all the appointments in the city I wanted and the time I wanted. Once I took charge, it went smoothly. I guess we are our own best advocate.
