  1. My surgery date is October 2018, revision to gastric bypass, I’m so excited I’ve waited over a year! I start my 6 week Ensure High Protein diet next week! My current wt is 322 lbs, not sure how much I’ll lose in this pre op diet, but I’m looking forward to my future!

    vomiting after every meal

Thanks for all your responses, i should also mention that i have been on antibiotics x 7days, (liquid, yuck) which maybe causing some of the nausea. My surgeon put in 5 cc during the operation.. i know weird, but i was fine, fine, fine until the first fill which looking back sounds like, was not needed, and i have had problems ever since. Not to mention an unexpected (unrelated) cellulitis. SO my doctor here, he is back today, decided to completely unfill my band until i have finished the antibiotics, then he will see me next week and either do a swallow assessment or if there is no further nausea start refilling the band. I appreciate all your comments and think that when i get refilled i will start lower. Fingers crossed no slippage!
  6. I had my first fill on Oct 28th, the band had 5cc put in at the time of surgery, so the doctor added 1cc. I could drink water fine and i went home. The next day i mostly had soups etc, no probs, then when i would eat, it would stay down for a few minutes but then i had to throw up... every time, had to go back to liquids and then on the 2nd i had 0.5cc removed., but as soon as i had food the vomiting continued. So I just had the other 0.5cc unfilled yesterday, but have continued to vomit after eating. I'm wondering if it has slipped, or now i'm just so used to throwing up i do it? It's not pleasant and now the doctor is out of town for a week. Has anyone heard of this type of thing happening? Back to fluids for now... just a bump in the road i hope!
  7. I was banded one month ago in Mexico, (TJ) and had a great experience. Of course i would rather have my surgeon in the same city that i live in, but with the 2 year waitlist and zero coverage, i would choose this option again and again. I made sure there was a surgeon in my city that could support me after and do my fills. All of the Mexican doctors were great and answered all my questions. The nurses were great and spoke english, one of them had had this surgery 4 years ago and she lost 125lbs. They picked me up at the airport, preop assess, bloodwork and IV, surgery, one night at the clinic post op, and a night at a beautiful hotel, then back home. I would do it again and recommend it to anyone. Good luck in your decision! (the only downside was the night nurse was not very generous with the pain meds, i am a nurse and i would've offered it way more, just sayin.)

What foods get stuck in your band?

Thanks Coco and soulsista, i learned a valuable lesson! It was breast meat... normally what i would have lots of for weight loss! I will buy those enzymes, but i hope there is no next time! Deep breath... eat slowly and chew chew chew!

What foods get stuck in your band?

I had my first stuck experience this weekend. I had just started on 'normal' food. Got invited to a friends house, she was having a curried chicken casserole type thing, with rice., something got stuck and i didn't quite realize what was happening. lots of pressure, not really able to swallow water or my own saliva. tried the after dinner walk, nothing helped. Tried a warm drink, tried ice water, got up to the bathroom to spit alot, then had to go home. Had to vomit 2 or 3 times could not lie down due to saliva build up.... so gross and scary. The vomiting finally cleared it, but it took forever! Bottom line not sure what got stuck, was it too spicy? Way better today (2 days later) but i hope that never happens again!

    Caution!: Over fill!

That is very interesting Weas, i was banded about a month ago, and now that i can eat soft food i find i have pretty good restriction, my very first fill is on Oct 28th, i'm wondering if i should cancel it? It takes me a while to get yogurt down, and it's probably about 1/2 cup. I'll make a decision closer to the date i guess, Congrats on your success!
  11. I live in beautiful Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I am a registered nurse, and have worked in acute care for 20 yrs. Very rewarding.
  12. I was able to sleep in bed on my 2nd night, but getting up and lying down was murder, i would scream quietly under my breath, and tried to put off getting up til i absolutely had to pee! After about 5 or 6 days it got better, also i was able to sleep on my right side that night, it was extremely uncomfortable but i cannot sleep on my back for more than an hour. Now i sleep on my stomach and my side as usual, slight discomfort getting to th right position, but it's all good now.

    Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!

I was banded on the 13th and am feeling better every day! I can sleep on my stomach again, yay, that only happened last week but i tested it alot before that! My inscisions are dry and healing, and super itchy, the tape really irritates my skin, the benadryl is a great idea. I'm still having mushies, and feel full after meals. My first fill is oct 28th, but i do have some restriction right now, we'll see. I'm going to move my scale to the downstairs bathroom, it mocks me and i only want to weigh myself weekly or every 10 days. I know i need to do more physical activity, no time like the present, even if it's just walking! Thanks for moving this over to "post op", love all your thoughts and ideas, they are a tremendous help!!

Hello everyone, I was banded on the 13th, got thru the liquid stage and am really enjoying the mushies! I like that kind of texture so i am lucky. Glad to share my experiences and hear all of yours! I think i overate my mashed potatoes last night, but it was my first day of having actual food in my mouth and i probably got too excited! Good luck all!
