Hi, I was banded June 18, 2007 and have lost 115 lbs. I've been having problem with throwing up and an uncomfortable feeling in my esophagus. I went for an x-ray and the doc said that the band had slipped up. This is very unusual he said. He said he thinks I need to have the band removed and repositioned and may have to take it out if the stomach is damaged too much. I have mixed emotions about this. Have been trying to keep out of surgery. Been having acid reflux and heartburn but taking medicine for this. Has anyone heard of this are going through the same thing?? Please Help!!

Twist below Stomach Pouch
Cblancha9 replied to dkennedy0689's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just wanted you to know that I had a similiar experience with the band. I have been banded since July 18, 2007 and have lost over 100 lbs. I feel so good. I have had bouts of coughing and throwing up every 5 - 10min all night long. It got to the point that I was dehydrated. I went to the doctor and got the fill taken out and was fine after that. Got x-ray to check if the band had slipped. Everything was fine. Got the fill put back and a few weeks later I had a bad cough and was throwing up a lot a mucus again. It was like bronchitis. It got to the point that I could not keep anything down and it felt like the food was in my throat and wouldn't go down. It would take about 4 hrs. Went to DR and they remove the fluid again that they had put back in the time before. It's been about 4 days and can finally eat. In fact, as soon as the fuild was extracted I felt better. I will diffinitely be cautious about the fills that I get in the future. The PA said that my insides were irritated from coughing and may have caused the stomach to swell and make the band tight. I could not have lost the weight without the band. It is a wonderful invention (tool)!! You just have to listen to your body and have a doctor or PA to call on. It is a learning experience and everyones case is different. -
It's been 16 months since surgery and I've lost 103lbs and feel great! I do have trouble with the 3 Golden Rules and boy do I pay for it. Does anyone know what happens when you have a band slip or an erosion?? I'm kind of worried about it. The last time I went to the DR. he said to be careful because I could cause a band slipage. I've been having trouble with acid reflux and take Prevacid. At night when I go to sleep I tried not to eat and it still comes up and I start to cough. Sometimes it's non stop; every 20 min. Then I'll go several days and everything is okay. Still get the acid reflux. Also take Gaviscon.

I have the same problem. My fill didn't click in until about 3 weeks later. Had only 2 fills in a 10cc band. (2 1/2cc) Some things I have no problem with , like soups and things with gravy and crunchy stuff. Sometimes I can only have a small amount and get a burning and hurting sensation. I know I must have ate to fast or too much. I was banded June 18, 2007 and I'm still learning what and how to eat. I guess I'm a slow learner.

How is weight loss for people over 50?
Cblancha9 replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi! I'm right there with you. I went from a size 22-24 to a size 18. It feels wonderful!! I'm taking in some of my old clothes but they don't look as good as the new ones. I was banded June 18 and have lost 68 lbs, 20 before surgery. I have had 2 fills and the second didn't take affect until about 2 weeks after. How much are you eating at one meal? If it's soft food, I can eat 1 to 1/2 cups, but if it's meat or chicken just about 3 oz. Popcorn - no problem, crunchy things - no problem. -
Hi! I was banded June18, 2007 and have lost 68lbs. 20lbs was before surgery. I was filled twice. The second time I didn't feel restriction until about 2 weeks later. I'm learning to eat slower and chew more. I have had PB and they do hurt. Don't want that to happen if I can help it. What is so strange is I can eat popcorn and have no problems, but meat gives we problems.

Hi, Haven't been on in a long time. I was banded June 18, 2007 and doing great! Lost 68 lbs. Saw the Nutritionist today and she said that I wasn't eating enough protein and shouldn't have crackers. Should be eating 4 small meals a day. I find it hard to fit all that in. Lately when I eat meat or chicken I PB, but anything else I can eat as much as I want. I thought that if I wasn't hungry I shouldn't eat. I drink a protein shake in the morning which is about 40 grams of protein and then eat lightly the rest of the day. Crackers and cheese, vegetables, fruit etc. What do the rest of you eat?

I believe there is a support meeting next Wednesday in Houma. I hope to go if I'm feeling okay. Hope to see you there.

Hi everyone! Surgery was on 6/18/07. Still have pain around the port area and have pain when I breathe deep. Is this normal?? Feel like I have alot of gas pain also. Looking forward to feeling normal. I sure can tell I have the band. Taking each day as it comes and trying to figure out what my body is trying to tell me. Have not been able to get all the protein and liquids in since I have that bloated feeling. Any suggestions??

Well, I'm back. Had surgery on Monday. Still feeling sore by the port area. I'm trying to get use to how I feel with the band. I'm feeling bloated but not drinking very much at all. I have a pain in the left side of my back. Is this normal? Also, what would it feel like if the band sliped. I have a pressure in the middle of my chest also. Is this the pouch overfilled? Just drinking liquids and jello. -

Did your Doc require a pre-op diet?
Cblancha9 replied to whosthatgirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm on the pre-op diet also. I have 3 more days till surgery on 6/18. This has been the hardest thing I have ever done. I was determined I would do this. I consumed about 500-550 calories a day of liquid protein (Whey protein from Walmart and Unjury protein ) and jello and popsicles. Bouillon was a treat. Can't wait to go forward and get on the road to recovery. Good luck to the people on the pre-op. -
Hi, I'm down the bayou from Houma. I'm having surgery on June 18 at Oschners. Wanted to have surgery in Houma with Dr. Rau but they didn't take Medicare, because they were not a Center of Excellence. Today is my 7 day of a 2 week liquid diet. Hard, but I'm taking it one day at a time. Will be going to the support group in Houma. Went to a few and really enjoyed them. Might have me you at one of them.

Whoever asked about the protein, I use Unjury and Body Fortress, Whey protein, chocolate and vanilla. It is delicious!

You can buy the Whey Protein at Walmart. It's about $12.00. Unjury is $17.00 and you get half as much.
