How is weight loss for people over 50?
Cblancha9 replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, Called the DR office today to see if they heard anything about my approval. Getting a little anxious. The nurse said that I have been approved and could probably have the surgery on June 6, 2007. She is going to call me on Monday and set up a difinite time and date and my pre-op diet instructions. I'm so excited. I will finally be able to join in and be ready for any advice you have to give me. I will difinitely need all of your support. Also glad there is a site for People over 50.. Everyone has been such an inspiration. I know it wont be easy but I will try to make it work. I'm thinking positive. I needed to hear this news as I was getting a little depressed yesterday. I started a diet last week and have lost 11 lbs in one week. 2 protein shakes and 1 good meal. I know I won't lose as much this week but am still trying. I don't want that all liquid diet to be too much of a shock to my system. Anyone else had a hard time with it?? -
Hi, I'm so excited. I found out today that I have been approved for surgery. My surgery can be as early as June 6. Office will call on Monday to set up the exact details. Pre-op liquid diet will start in 2 wks. I'm so READY. I've already started on the protein diet. 2 protein shakes and 1 good meal a day and lost 11 lbs the first week. I know this week will not be as good because the first week is mostly water weight. Anthing is better than nothing.

How is weight loss for people over 50?
Cblancha9 replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi!, I'm still waiting to be banded. All tests are done and they said they sent the info to Medicare. It's been 2 weeks and I'm getting very frustrated. Been reading all the good things and the bad things about the band and can't wait to get started. I started on a diet of my own of 2 protein shakes and 1 meal and have lost 11 lbs this week. I have about 150 lbs. to lose. I figure the more I can lose now the closer to my goal I'll be. I hope it doesn't take too long. I'm not getting any younger. 64 yrs. old -
Have you tried to freeze the Slimfast? I take it out the freezer and run it under some warm Water and then open it with a can opener and let it slide out and eat it like ice cream. Lasts longer and tastes great. Waiting to be banded. Getting heart test tomorrow.

cravings/over-eating pre/post-op
Cblancha9 replied to eyespy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the same feeling and concerns that "eyespy" has. Thanks so much for this LBT. It has really helped me. I have done the physc exam and the medical tests and have to go Thursday for an stress test because they found my heart is enlarged. It is a stress test done with dye. ouch! Then have to see my PCP on the 16th. I guess I'm getting a little nervous since it seems to be getting closer. Last night I read on the LBT a person that said the lapband was just a scam. That kind of upset me, especially since most of the comments are good. I just wish it were all over. I'm also worried about the 2 week liquid diet before. That's a long time. Guess I'll be going to bed early. My husband said he would do it with me since he could stand to lose a few pounds. At least I wouldn't have to cook or watch him eat. Sorry to be rambling on, but just getting anxious. Thanks again to all of you! Your great!! -
It's so good to have a support group like this one. I get so confused on whether this is the right thing to do. I hope that I can succeed losing weight and not be too miserable. Cooking and eating was really important to me. I don't hear anyone complaining about their life style after the BAND. And I'm sure that some of you out there are just like me and are losing weight. When I start reading all the successes I feel encouraged.

Hi, I'm from below Houma. I'm seeing Dr. Richardson at Oschner. Have to get another test on my heart on Thursday because he found that my heart was enlarged. Waiting anxiously.
-
Hi, Bsoutherngirl. I wanted to have Dr. Rau do my surgery but I needed a hospital that was a Center of Excellence so my insurance (Medicare) would pay. Went to the seminar and support group in Houma. Enjoyed if very much. Went to Oschner and talked to Dr. Richardson. Am going through the process now. I will be going to do the tests this week. Can't wait. Keep up the good work. It sounds like it's a little rough in the beginning but I still want it done.
-
Hi!, Southerngirl I'm hoping to be banded soon. Looking forward to hearing from you. I'm going through the process now. Having tests done Wed. I'm having Dr. Richardson from Oschners do the surgery. Do you know anything about him? Where did you have your surgery? Where in New Orleans?? I'm from down the bayou from Houma.

Hi! Butterflylover. Glad to hear that you are happy about your Lapband. I'm 64 yrs old and waiting anxiously to have it done. I've finished my physc evaluation and am going on Wed. to have the medical tests done. I'm nervous and excited all at one time. Just want to hurry up and get it over. I know it is a good thing to do. Will be looking forward to getting support from you and the others. Good luck. -
This might be a stupid question, but what is MRSA??

Thanks, I found one in New Orleans, at Oschner Hospital. Dr. Richardson.

Cblancha9 replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, butterflylover. I know you must be excited. Saw the surgeon today and liked him very much. He talked to me about the bypass and the lapband. It seemed like he was leaning toward the bypass since it more convenient and once done it's done, no filling. He said people get better results with the bypass and not as dangerous as it use to be. I'm still more inclined to stick with the lapband. Tests are scheduled for Mar. 28. Have to schedule my own physc evaluation. Have an appt scheduled at the same hospital but it's not until Apr 28. Hoping to get an appt closer to home and sooner. It sure seems like a long process. The hospital is 65 mi away from home. Well, I guess I can't complain too much at least the ball is rolling. I guess I'm just getting anxious reading all about everyone's weightloss. I live in Montegut, Louisiana a little town down the bayou and 65 mi from New Orleans. I'm not Cajun but my husband is. We moved here 10 years ago when we retired. Didn't mean to write a book about my life. Carol Ann Montegut, LA Dr. Richardson (Oschner Hospital) -

Hi, just happened to see that you are around my age. I'm 64 yrs old. I feel a little out of place with all these young people. Let's keep in touch. Are you banded yet?? I'm going to the surgeon tomorrow and I guess he will tell me what I have to do next. Sorry I can't help you with the ticker. Will probably need help when I start mine. :clap2: -

I finally got to go to a seminar that the hospital was a Center of Excellence. This is my 3rd seminar about the lapband. Called today and have a doctors appt. Monday. I'm really glad to get one so fast. Hope everything goes smoothly and fast. After reading on this site, it really makes me excited and anxious. I know I can do this! It really helps to hear your comments, good and bad. I don't like surprises especially when it comes to pain and discomfort. -
What are your "automated meals"?
Cblancha9 replied to TerriDoodle's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Just read all the suggestions for food. I'm hoping to get banded in a few months and all of you are really helping me alot. I'm sure all of you must have thought of this but I'll tell you what I like to do. Freeze Slim Fast and then run the can under hot water a few seconds and then ease it out of the can. I can eat it slowly and I make believe it's ice cream. If I drink it, it's gone and I want more. -

Thanks, ebthinagn, yes, that is where I finally found Oschner's Hospital. (They were approved for a Center of Excellence 2/07/07) Will be going to their seminar on Thursday. That is a requirement eventhough I've been to 2 other seminars at different places. -

So glad to find this forum. I will be on this site often. I am in the beginning stages and will be going to a seminar on Thursday. Hope to get things going and fast. I'll be really disappointed if I have to wait too long. Gail, Good luck to you and I will say a prayer for you on Wednesday. So glad I found you and the other women on the site. Thanks, Carol Ann -
Yes, I have Medicare and you have to find a hospital that is a "Center of Excellence" The one that I originally picked was appling for the COE and doesn't know when it will be approved, so I researched my area and found one about 50miles away. I'm going to the seminar at Oschners this Thursday and will let you know.

HI ! I'M 64 AND STARTING THE PROCESS. TRYING TO FIND A HOSPITAL AND DOCTOR THAT TAKES MEDICARE. THE ONES IN MY AREA ARE WAINT FOR THEIR CENTER OF EXCELLENCE OKAY. I FEEL I DON'T WANT TO WAIT ANY LONGER. GETTING ANXIOUS. IT IS SO EXCITING TO READ ALL THE THE WEIGHT THAT BANDSTERS HAVE LOST. I WAS A LITTLE WORRIED THAT I WAS TOO OLD. HAS ANYONE GOTTEN THEIR BAND FROM OSCHNERS IN NEW ORLEANS?? -
Hi, I'm also researching hospitals that do the surgery and are a Center of Excellence. I'm on Medicare disability and I just found out the Oschner's Hopital in N.O. is a Center of Excellence. I have to go to their Seminar Mar. 8 and then they will schedule an appt. Have been talking to the Surgery Center in Houma, LA but they do not know when they will be a Center of Excellence. I don't want to keep putting it off. I want to do it now, since I decided. Does anybody know someone that has had Lapband surgery at Oschners???
