  4. So, I figured that the port would be a little sore - but its been over a week and it is still pretty tender. The suture line looks great - very bruised. So when does this port soreness go away...if ever?? My ribs are taking a beating whenever I bend over! Also, I was reading through some other threads and someone mentioned that their MD asked they not sleep on the port side - anyone else?? I'm pretty sure I wasn't told that. Surely it wont hurt to lay on that side.... Hmm.....
  5. Yes, this is happening to me too!! --I learn something new about this band every day! I haven't really felt "hunger" since the clear liquid day before surgery. I get to have fish and more solid food for the first time on Saturday. I've been pretty religious about getting in my 70 grams of Protein a day - mostly through protein smoothies, cottage cheese, milk and eggs. I have also had the gas pain - that feeling like your stomach is full of air and you need to burp but you cannot. Its miserable. I thought I had eaten to much night before last (had mashed potatoes, they were yummy) but really I just had lots of air in there. I believe I read somewhere that the band acts as a one way valve. Hiccups and burps hurt!! The gas issue has gotten better over time though - I'm feeling more like myself. Gas-X really hasn't helped :smile2:

    Is this normal?

I have this same discomfort - and I've taken so much Gas-X that I'm not sure its working. I haven't had the typical shoulder pain people complain about after surgery - but the diphragmatic pain/pressure is pretty intense. I think I read in my little booklet that the band acts as a one way valve - which makes it harder to burp and get anything up.... yuck. Hmm...so 5 or so more days of this and I'll be back to normal?? Good to know. I'm also finding that I have absolutely NO appetite...did you all experience this as well??
  7. Yea!!! Banded yesterday - recovering today. Feeling pretty good actually, just a little discomfort (mostly at port site) but thats to be expected. good luck to those of you on the list of September bandsters!!! How do I get my ticker thingie to come up on here??

  9. I received my band yesterday (9/13/10). So, Sunday night I coulnd't sleep - a little like a kid on christmas and some nervousness about the decision I had made. I dreamt I was stuck in a huge grocery store all night....AAAHHHHHHHH. I was the first case monday morning, did the whole "pee in the cup", then the got dressed into the sexy, designer gown (not), put my SCDs on for DVT prevention and had my IV started. In addition to some fluids, I was given some prophylatic antibiotics..the Anesthesiologist, the CRNA, the PA and my surgeon stopped by to see me. The actual procedure went well, woke up in Recovery with a sore belly. The RN was wonderful - got some pain medicine, had a popsicle and some propel Water. I was pretty drowsy so I think I stayed in recovery about 1 1/2 hours. Got out to the car and walked around a little - surprisingly this did make me feel a WHOLE lot better. Stopped at Walgreens on my way home to get my liquid crack (lortab). Got home, made myself a clear liquid Protein drink (used those protein shots you find a Kroger and mixed it in with a little fruit punch crystal light). I anticipate that this will ruin fruit punch flavored drinks for me for a while.... I also have an On-Q pump - the front of my belly where my tiny insicions are is pretty numb. I sort of wish my port site had been more numb than it is - its probably the most sore of all the sites. My belly is sore, but nothing that is unbearable. This morning (9/14/) its actually more sore than yesterday....so I'll do some more walking around the block today. I did a lot of walking around the house, getting up and down, doing my incentive spirometer. Took a nap after getting home and slept OK last night. I can hardly wait to eat something other than clear liquids!!!! At this point I think I'd give my left arm for some cream of wheat or some yogurt....anything but broth, Jello, and fruit punch protein drink!!! So - to all those of you who are anticipating getting your band - good luck to you all. I hope your experience is much like mine!
  10. YEA!!! This is my first post. I'll be having my band placed on Monday, September 13th. I'm excited - but super nervous too. I really wanted to go out tonight and have a nice dinner with foods that I wont be able to eat for a while - but I resisted. I was good and had baked chicken.....
  11. I'm scheduled for September 13th....and anxious
