I have had my lapband for 7 months 3 fills last fill being 3 months ago and have recently found out I am pregnant, Last night I decided to have a couple of chips ( twisties ) I don't think my body agreed with these and I headed straight to the toilet I dry heaved a little but nothing came out.. It wasn't stuck I know what that feels like it was different this time.. Anyway soon after my throat started to burn and I couldn't stop burping.. I didn't eat near enough to have over indulged I got about 5 in and it was all over.. Today I have not been able to eat I have been able to get liquid down but even that feels like it want's to come up and I am still burping after every little drink and it kinda feels like I have an air pocket underneath my ribcage the butterfly area that keeps popping??? It's really hard to explain? I have an appointment with my surgeon on the 12th of march I called them today to see if there was anyway I could get an earlier appointment and they said I can't that they are fully booked and thats the earliest I can see him Any idea's of what could be happening? Could it just be a reflux thing? Could I have made my band slip :cry ? This is my first time pregnant and Im scared that I am depriving the baby or that this could affect it somehow :cry Sorry that this thread is so long I'm just really scared

I have had the band for 7 months now, And I have avoided bread at all costs I know everyone is different but I have read alot about bread being a big one to get stuck.. I find it hard to eat meats im fine with mince but it has to have some form of liquid over it eg; gravy, Pasta sauce ect.. I am unable to eat rice or pasta they are the main ones for me but like I said everyone is different and it's just a case of trial and error.. Good luck with your band

Hi guys.. I have just found out that I am pregnant :biggrin1: and although I am so excited and really happy about this I am wondering what this means to my journey with the lapband? I was banded last year in july so 7 months and have lost almost 40 kilo's..I was reading that people should wait 2 years before falling pregnant after having the lapband.( this wasn't planned and will be my first baby) I don't care about gaining some weight back it will be so worth it but I am scared in the same sense. Having had the lapband for this amount of time it has really changed my eating habbits and I am terrified that I may not give the baby enough nutrients or reverse it and I go overboard with the eating. What does all this mean for me? I don't get to see my surgeon untill next month so I have no idea what the deal is. Will I be totally unfilled? Is the band going to complicate my pregnancy? What if I suffer horrible morning sickness? Any suggestions? Advice will be much appreciated

Thanks for the replies I will definatley need some of the liquid taken out as I find it really difficult to get most things down as it is. I just wasnt sure if I would need the full amount out. Thanks for the advice if i do suffer morning sickness I will definatley be taking something for it along with a complete unfill.. I was reading earlier about a monitoring system they use for pregnant women with the lapband and they were saying how at the start of pregnancy they unfill you completley so the baby gets all the important nutrients and prenatal Vitamins and then once you hit the 14 weeks they give you a fill then and just before you are due to have the bub they completley unfill you. Out of the women that were monitored they had put on only 8 kilo instead of the average 15?? That was a U.K based website and I have no clue if they do the same over here( Australia ) but I will have a talk to my surgeon to ask him about it. I just wanted a little peice of mind. I know there are lots of people who have had babies while having the lapband and just wanted to hear their experience.. Good luck with the pregnancies Neet & Leighhoffman wishing you two all the very best Cheers

Pay for the band! Poll!
Phatty replied to princess_n_thep's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I didn't have to pay anything at all for the actual operation or my fills the only out of pocket expense I had to pay was 80 dollars to see the dietician.. At the time of the operation I was only working part time and because I did not earn enough I also had a health care card.I fell into the criteria So medicare paid for the operation. ( Australia ) -
Thanks for your reply Wheetsin, I guess I will just have to wait for my appointment and see what my surgeon says, suggests

I am finding that when something wont go down right and gets a little stuck I get a very sharp pain in my head it isnt like a headache it's just a horrible sharp pain does anyone else get this :huggie: :rose: And if so why does it happen?

I have no idea but I hope you get the answers you are looking for... Goodluck

Congratulations, How very exciting for you. Well done matey

Lapbandit, That was my thoughts exactly but while I was browsing the forum I didn't see anyone mention about the sharp pain in the head so I was starting to think I was weird or it was my imagination. It only happens when something doesn't go down right.. Vintagehound, Thank you so much for posting it's good to know I am not the only one.. The way you explained it is EXACTLY the way it happens for me. I to get it near my temple it feels like a constant brain freeze a nasty pain. Atleast now I know it's normal I will still ask my surgeon why it happens just to gain some insight on it.. Thanks for posting guys I appreciate it

You take the good with the bad.. It's good to have concerns it's good to know of all the things that can happen with the band.. Some people have problems some people don't.. I guess it's just a risk one has to take.. Anytime I have had a problem or thought to be a problem I jump on here and there is always someone here to give you the advice or answer your questions.. There's always someone that has gone through the same thing as you.. So in a way it's great and you really appreciate it.. I came on here prior to my op to read up and get some knowledge.. And man did some of the stories scare me.. But overall the outcome of peoples bands have been amazing and inspiring..It's a chaper of a whole new life.. I wouldn't change it for the world..

Hmmm not wanting to go into to much information... I finished my period a couple of days before this started... So I will keep that in mind hopefully I don't have to go through this every month Thanks jane73

I have had my band for a little over four months now, My last fill was a little over 5 weeks.. I went to see my surgeon and he was extremley pleased with my weight loss for the month so I didn't need another fill.. Anyway for the last 3 days I have not been able to get any food down at all no matter how soft or easy or how much I chewed it. As soon as it goes in I get the stuck feeling and all that comes along with it:cry and out it all comes... I have followed everything by the book and have been extremley cautious with my eating habbits and my choice of foods. Is it possible to only just now feel the restriction? 5 weeks later? Or do we just have some days where nothing will go down? I'm a little concerned but am curious if it's sometimes normal??
-
Thanks for the well wishes becca77 I'm feeling alot better and I can eat a weetbix without me bringing it up.. Still cant eat anything else though yet!! I was just shocked like I said I had my fill done 5 weeks ago and only just now am I feeling the restriction from it Aww thank you Victoriana I feel so much better now knowing that others experience it and that it's the norm.. I am so glad I didn't get another fill otherwise I would have been doomed lol. Could the weather play any kind of part with my band? Because it has been really hot here lately ???

I don't have a goal weight, I guess I will be happy when I don't have to go to the plus size section.. I have been banded for a little over 4 months have lost 22 kilo and have gone from a size 18-20 to a 16 ( Australian sizes ) I will be over the moon to fit in a size 12.. I am 173 cm tall and my doc told me I should weigh around 65 kilo I was jumping up and down when my weight went down to double digits lol..
-
Thank you so much for replying to me Jack I really appreciate it. Well that has put my mind at ease. I will stick to the liquids for a couple more days and if it's no better I will see my surgeon I didn't know it could take 5 weeks to feel a restriction.... Thanks again
