I'm so excited for you for this Wednesday, I can live vicariously through you for a while! I hope you get to where you should be!! It's so weird that you have written exactly my issue for the past couple of months!! Just talking about it is encouraging, I know they say the loss is over 1-2 years, but 1-2 lb's a week would really help too. Knowing that I'm not the only one in this boat is helpful, and as you say everyone is different. I'm sticking to my convictions that it's just be a matter of adjustment, and I'm just not there yet. Much luck to you! ~D

Hi Kevin Yes I DO get the growling sound at the bottom of my stomach, I and yes I do find that I am much more restricted in the morning vs night. I've heard people talk about having a warm liquid as you say coffee in the morning. I also find that in the evening the 'floodgates' open as well. The last fill I had was March 26, and I swear before I left the office I was worried I was too full, I felt exactly how you described when you didn't chew enough, I called about getting a de fill, because I was worried, however, after about 3 days, I am back where I started, and have I lost an oz.? NO! I completely agree with you when you mention that as long as you chew you can eat the same amount of food. I am completely discouraged as well. I had my surgery Jan 18, and yes lost 15lbs on the pre op, since then I've lost in total 3lbs. I find it's much easier from a mental state to choose wisely when I'm losing, and not so easy when it doesn't show, I get the 'What the heck' mentality, I'm not losing anyway, just eat the cake I know it will fit in... As far as the water goes, I find that is much harder to get a lot down during the day, that is my goal everyday, but, I know we have to stay hydrated. I also find the the roof of my mouth at the back is often dry, and I need to drink the water. I can't wait to get to that 'sweet spot' where I/we can only get 2-3 oz down and not another thing can enter. I'm going to call for another fill today. Let me know how you get along with you fill. Donna.

You sound exacly like me. I was banded Jan 18, and had my 3rd fill late March, I thought for sure that this was it, my band can hold 9cc's and I'm at 8.5, I thought for sure on my last fill that I was too tight, but by the 3rd day, I felt restriction, but am back eating, definately less, but still not losing anything... arghgh this is indeed frustruating!

Afternoon all. OK here's my question. I am 4 weeks this Thursday post op. I am on my last week of mushy food. I have to admit three things. 1. I haven't been drinking water religiously. 2. I haven't stuck to completely mushy foods during this last two weeks 3. I have had more than recommended portions. I've been following the basic rules of Weight Watchers, and choosing wisely, and go onto full food as of this Sat the 17th. I am of the impression that once I get the first fill, this will really help the 'eating more than recommended' amount. Someone please tell me my thinking/theory is correct...it just seems sooo long until my first fill the 28th. I realize this is the healing period, and that I really shouldn't expect to be loosing at this point. I have maintained my loss of 12 lbs pre op, but I really should not be expecting anything during this time right????? OK now I'm going to drink more water. Thanks for letting me rant! ~DB

Hi, I feel great, I can't wait to get a fill. I used 3 of the Demeral out of 40 that were provided, and found that by the end of the second day, everything was fine. I find at this point (still on full Fluid liquids- mushy food on Sat can't wait) I AM feeling hungy, and I realize this is not the losing part of the process just the healing part, I can't wait to feel full on just a little food. The other thing I'm finding is that I can't get all the Water down that I should be. I just have to keep trying. No doubt, you will still lose weight during this phase becuase your calorie intake is so mimimal. Take care and good luck!!!

Hi, I was in the same position as well, over Xmas I had a real bad cough lost voice, the entire works, it was going away at the beginning of Jan, and then re appeared. I call the clinic, and they said that as long as I didn't have a fever that it would be OK, If I did have a fever, it would be up to me if I wanted to continue, but they would ask to have a waiver signed. Anyway, my surgery was Jan 18, and I was fine by the time the 18th rolled around, and everything was fine. Good luck, and I hope you feel better. ~DB

Good early morning to everyone. I am 4 days post op, and I have found that I can get all the liquids down, but about 10 to 20 minutes later, I feel this wave as though everything seems to ride back up toward the asophagas, a bit of chest pain then it goes away. I hope this is not relux. I've found also after all the fluids during the day, iso pure (yuck) propel, water, broth...I still get growling hunger noises. This is normal right? Everything just has to heal a bit, and If I can just get to those full fluid days I'll be fine right??? Just wanted to know if anyone else went through this. Donna B

4 day post op 20 mins then chest pain

Hey Sally I was thinking about you yesterday. Didn't want to call in case you were trying rest. I'm glad you're back a work. How were you last few days, last time we spoke, you hadn't slep for 24 hours or so. Can't wait to meet you tomorrow night. ~D -
Today I was off work, took my mom shopping, I called TCLB because I wanted to start full liquids today. I know it's early. Now I know why as she explained that the band is positioning itself, and the less in the stomach, the less work it has to to, the less movement the band has. That makes more sense. I was banded Thurs Jan 18 in the AM, I can't even remember getting dressed. That day out of the last 4 days was the worst. I couldn't stay awake at all. Since then I have been OK, no sholder pain, no side effects, took 3 Demeral altogeher. Unil today...forgot about the pipes below, well...I went into the rest room Starbuck, and emerged about a half an hour later with NO results. Thank Gawd by the afternoon nature took it's course, the last thing I would want to do is bo back to work tomorrow, and have that issue to worry about. Back to work tomorrow, no one at the office knows, no one in my family knows except for my 13 year old daughter, and my mom. The office peeps were wondering why I was eating so much cottage cheese and yogurt, so I did let them know I was having a day surgery, they think it's for a hernia. I have knowing that I've out and out lied to people, but I find it priviate, as soon as one tells one that oen is dieting, everybody wants to either join the band wagon, or looks at anything that is purchsed from the lunch room and then examined. We have a weight watchers a work program, and I was in it once...(who know I'm a life time member) from meny years ago. It's like a circus with these groups. Everybody watches everybody. I can't stand that. OK enough from me I'm going to cuddle up with my most sucky cat Sawyer. ( I have 4 altogether and he's the youngest, and most cuddley) take a quick nap before my daughter arrives home from school...Then I plan to do 30 minutes on the bike today. Until tomorrow. ~DB

Thanks for all your replies, I'm feeling much better today, drinking warm fluids really help. I don't know if I can stick to this clear diet for much longer, I really feel like I can eat food as long as it's chewed really well. However...doctors orders. juice and beef broth until Wednesday, I'm looking forward to cream of mushroom Soup and non fat starbucks latte, and just a little more variety. Did any of you try full fluids sooner than the 7 day period? -
My surgery date is this Thursday Jan 18th, I've been on yogurt and cottage cheese now since last Sunday. I haven't told my Sis and tonight she made a sit down Sunday dinner. I actually ate approx 5 oz of pork, a few carrots, and a very small pototo, other than that I've been extremely rigid for the past 8 days. I find it's easy at work, evenings are tough, and this weekend was tough. This won't screw anything up will it? That food should be out of my system by Thursday right? I feel there's no harm done, but of course the surgery notes state 'strict compliance' Arghghg.:help: DB

Hi all I just wanted to say thanks to this group on line for all the support over the past weeks. A special thanks to everyone that I met yesterday at TLBC who were waiting for fills. I'm scheduled for Jan 18th, and was just amazed at all of the wonderful people I met yesterday in the waiting room (as I was waiting for Nisrine) Thanks for allowing my mother and I ask all those questions, I know it eased her tention, and mine as well. (I can't wait to get this over with and get on with things) It was a real pleasure to hear how positive all of you are, and how wonderful everyone is doing on your journy's. I only wish I was able to stay and chat longer. I hope to see you all again at one time or another. Continued success to all of you. Donna B.

I tried it for a couple of day this week, and you are right about the head ache thing. My official start date of the diet it Jan 8th (10 days) Surgery date is the 18th. Here's another question, I know where I can go to get the blood work done, as well as the x ray, but the ECG, do you know of any particular place in Scarborugh/Toronto area? Soooo tell me about the fill story.

:help: :help: :help: Hi all, I know I should most likely be in a differnt area to ask this question, but I really wanted some Canuck feedback. I now have a firm surgery date Jan 18, I took my mom to a consutl with me last Tuesday night, as we stayed for the pre op seminar. I had a digital tape recorder with me and managed to get all the information that I needed. I have listened to it a couple of times now, and still have questions regarding the pre op diet. Out of the three hour recording that I have, with Nisrine, DrJoffe, and finally the nutritionist, I only still know that the pre op diet is low carb low fat diary based. What exacly does that mean, everyone was taking about yogurt and cottage cheese and that was it.' Is that truely what we are to eat. What is a typical day like. 1/2 cup of yogurt/Cottage Cheese or a whole cup How often, any protein to go with that, can we take protien drinks during this stage. OK so one more thing for post op...what defines a CLEAR liquid? Sorry to nag, but I really want to be clear on this, and although I ama month away from surgery, I want to be able to make some fairly strict choices sooner than later. Donna Bee

Newbie-Need advise to calm Mom
blownaway36 replied to blownaway36's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Once again thank for all of your replies. I went to the meeting with Nisrine, my Mom and stayed for the pre op seminar. It was quite interesting. I recored the entire evening, I have re listened to it a few times, (it was eaiser than writing things down and/or trying to remember stuff) I was impressed my almost everything, except for the nutrionist, I found that she was quite preachy, and spoke down to us, really as though we were children, when it came to the actual diets that we will be following "a low fat low carb dairy based diet" didn't really tell me too much. (I created a new post for help on this subject.) My Mom still has some pretty good concerns, but...she's decided that there will be no christmas presents for me since she's going to finance it interest free...(lucky me my mom can't stand the thought of paying interest!!!) I live with my sis and I WILL NOT be telling her. I won't get into that aspect of my life, but I figure I will tell her I'm on a nother crazy diet and let her go off on me about how I always go over board, and all I have to do is stop being exsessive. I hope I can get through those few weeks with out any issues from her. So at this point, I suppose this time next month will be my turn...Yikes very nervous. How long did it take you all to get the req's for the pre op medical test, I don't have those yet, and would like to get those overwith as well. Thanks for letting me vent. Donna Bee -
Hi All, 'm a newbie here, live in Scarb, work in Markham, have a surgery date of Jan 17. I'm 41, and my mom think I'm out of my mind. I be at the TLBC. I've made an exta consutaltion appointment to include dear 'ol mom, as she seems to have more questions than I. I realize that she is concerned purely out of love, so I'm hoping that she will feel as I do after 'our' consultation, put her mind at ease. I've found this website to be extemely informative. Can anyone tell me if stitched need to be removed after surgery, or are they dissolvable, that's one question I forgot to ask. If there is any other advise that anyone can offer that would put moms mind at ease, I would surely welcome your commments. ~DB

Mine is a lyric from Dave Matthews Band from a song called 'Lie In Our Graves' He talks about so many of us not taking action or doing anything with our lives. "I can't believe that we would lie in our graves wonder what things might have been..." 36 is another DMB song that's a favorite.

Newbie-Need advise to calm Mom

Thanks so much for all the replies, advise and support. I really appreciate it. My 2nd consult with my mom is this coming Tuesday, I'm hoping to firm up in my mind that all will go well once she's more involved and has a better understanding. Once again thanks.
