I began my lapband journey months ago in my ahead alone, but never thought I would even have a chance of approval from the insurance company. April of 2010, I met with my surgeon, not for my obesity, but for the removal of my gall bladder, which had had me feeling miserable for months. The months of misery did not help in my on-going weight loss efforts, thus resulting in more weight gain. After my surgery, during my f/u visit, I spoke with the nursing staff and Dr. Eldridge in regards to being a fit for the lapband. They all felt that I would qualify, so this is where the real journey began. I first contacted my Insurance, Aetna HMO, who advised that they would in fact cover at 60%, after deductible. I then made an appointment for my son and myself. Our first consultation appointment was May 11, 2010. We since have done 3 visits with a nutrionist, our last visit being 8/19/10. On 8/26/10, I spoke with the co-ordinator at the surgeons office to confirm that she recieved the 2yrs of medical records I had obtained and faxed to her. She seems hopeful that insurance will not require anything further, but wouldn't give her opinion on approval possibilites, I understand. The conversation ended with, "if I do not hear from her by 9/30/10, to call her." 30 days is like a lifetime...lol. I am doing my best to stay positive.I do have to say that the visits with the nutritionist, Marilyn, were informative, albut too much information packed into each visit. I have completly failed at exercising. I have seen my pcp for my hip and back pain, which hopefully we will get under control soon and I will feel like being more active. I am praying that prior to the lap band surgery that I will learn that food is NOT Love, and that I have to learn to Love myself as I am now and as I will be.
