wieght lose after surgery
rockstar replied to mammaaez's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some doctors fill the band a little at surgery but the majority wait 6-8 weeks after to start filling it little by little. Some claim you have to wait until your 3rd, 4th, or even 5th fill to really start losing weight. But everyone is different and everyone's approach is different. I'm only 10 days post-op and have lost right around 20 lbs from the pre-op diet to now. (241 to 221) -
Welcome!! The pre-op diet isn't as tough as it sounds once you get passed day 2! It's all downhill from there, in my experience. But it's all for a great reason in the end! Good luck and keep us all updated!

Worried My Insurance will not approve surgery
rockstar replied to ChangeInAZ's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have Anthem BCBS and they require a BMI of 40, period. So I decided to gain 8 lbs to get to the 40 BMI to have the surgery. I figured I was going to gain the 8 lbs down the road anyway so it wasn't a big deal to me. So you have to weigh your options. Start by calling your insurance and telling them your story and see what they say. It varies so much that not a lot of people can help. Just don't give up! -
My surgery was the 11th too. :] I wish you luck in your journey and a super speedy recovery!!

I'm 7 days post-op and days 2-5 were horrible for me. I had the worst gas pains that I couldn't get rid of. I don't have a heating pad so I wasn't able to try that ... but walking and Gas-X didn't help. I still have a spasm in my esophagus that's painful but it's slowly becoming less frequent. I feel pretty darn good today! It'll happen guys, hang in there!

Welcome and congrats on the run! Keep us updated on your journey.

A thread is the start of a topic. You started the thread "Hi, I'm new at this" and has become a topic that the public can read and post replies to. Our replies are posts on your thread. You can start threads of any related topic you want. If you have a question about pre-op appointments, you may want to start a thread about that, for example. Does that help any or am I just rambling?

You're not alone. I was banded on the 11th and I had awful, awful gas pain until about the 5th day. I still had some today but it is bearable. I walked and sipped and walked and walked and walked. I took Gas X strips and that did nothing. I took the chewables and that did nothing. So just hang in there... it does get better!
-

rockstar replied to brittinik's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on October 11th and my gas pains are just now starting to go away. They're still there and still kicking my butt... but apparently everyone is right and slow and surely it does it get better! I'm keeping you in my thoughts for a quick recovery! -
The Big Day Is Tomorrow!

I worried myself sick the night before and the morning of. I was pretty much crying inside as they wheeled me to the OR. But, honestly, it was quick and easy! You'll do great! -
2 days post op and in pain.....Scaredy cat
rockstar replied to Angeleyes716's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am wrapping up day three, post op... and I'll tell you that gas pain is no joke. I have a high tolerance for pain, but this is an annoying, uncomfortable, DEEP pain. It's hard to describe but it's awful. I've been walking my butt off and popping Gas X strips when I can and nothing is really helping much. The narcotic nasal spray my surgeon prescribed just makes me very tired so I'm not taking it. Hopefully it'll subside for us soon!! I'm praying for ya. -
Sorry but I'm on day three and infection free!

October 2010 (Bootiful Bandsters) Thread
rockstar replied to Alisomniac's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey all you Bootiful Bandsters! I'm on day 3 post-op. I still have a clear liquid diet until Monday and the gas pains are killing me. I've taken Gas X strips with no relief. Today it is a bit better but goodness. It's no joke. I've been slowly eating a Jello cup because I'm afraid I'll get full and think it's an awful gas pain and keep eating. Does the new full feeling feel like the old full feeling? I still haven't felt it. Anyway, I'm glad everyone is doing well! I can't WAIT for full liquids next week!! -
Hey there. I was just banded Monday and I, too, am on a clear liquid diet... which I have been on since October 4th. It's getting a little old! I tend to just stick to Jello, chicken base, and sugar free tropical popsicles. What else is there, really? I start back to work on Sunday and I'm on my feet all day, running around ...so that should be quite interesting! Feel free to PM me if you ever wanna chat! Amy

I would love to join you. I am currently in the hospital from getting banded this morning. so if you don't mind me being a bit slow in the cardio front, I'd be thrilled. I'd like to be at 199lb which is a loss of 31lbs as of this morning.
