    My Social Life

Hang in there NJ! all really isn't lost as you can see from all of the posters here (and there are more out there who have not posted here) eat out some more than others, but it can be done! Yesterday my DH and I went to the local strawberry festival. I did have to think about how and what I was going to eat and I survived just fine without cravings, without feeling deprived. I had 10 garlic fries (all that I could eat), marinaded teriaki chicken on a stick and had a large dark chocolate dipped strawberry. I was full, happy with myself and amazed that I was not craving more! On the plus side, I got in over an hours worth of walking. On the daily side of things we go out to eat alot and I have yet to come across a place that I cannot find anything to eat from. Remember, even if you do fall off the "wagon" forgive yourself and get right back on! There are a lot of helping hands willing and ready to help you come back on board!

    Lack of Energy

give your doctor a call, he/she may want to do some blood work to determine if you need additional supplements, i.e. iron, B12, increased protein, etc... Hope all goes well

Who Has Lost Over 100 Pounds?!?!

I'm here too! yeah for all of us and those to come!
  6. Reverie, congrats on a well deserved journey. Thanks for those reminders! I too am fill free, though I still have a few more months to go before my bandiversary.
  7. Yeah! the deed is done and you have support and love! Your daughters should be easy compared to this. Keep us posted!

    In pain - please help

review what you ate and what time it was eaten before you went to bed. just to see if there is a correlation. also, did you recently receive a fill? if the pain continues. give your doc a call. better to be safe and sure than not.
  9. I agree! Molly thanks again! So far I started losing again for the past few weeks. shook up my eating and exercising routines. keeping my fingers crossed that the new routines help out.
  10. NJG, let us know! Whether we agree or disagree with your stance....know that we are here to support if we can. if you have to....Perhaps get up in the morning and sit him down and tell him. As you have suggested in an earlier post, he might have an idea that something is up or he might even know what is going on. get the elephant on the table. Still wishing you luck!
  11. Tylee, I am in anxious mode! Hoping that your scale was right and that you are closer to goal #2! I spent the last four weeks staying the same so I shook up my eating habits and changed my exercise routine around and have started to lose again. Lets hope that this continues to work.
  12. mrsebg, so you work in a bariatric office....I believe (of course I don't know you personally, so I could be wrong) that you are human like the rest of us here. You've had a hell of a tough time and perhaps may still be depressed over your unfortunate (I know understament of the year) situation that you have gone through. I am so sorry for your loss...and I can not even imagine what you have gone through...however, you are in a place that you can now start to identify where you need to get back in the game to continue on with your goal of a healthy life without the additional weight. You have noticed and decided to do something at the 40 lb mark, it could have been worse. Now you are back on track and I applaud you for your courage and perserverence. Too bad it took a rude and insensitive clod to wake you up, there really was no need for that person to say what she/he said to you. I believe that you can do it! I know that you can do this for yourself and your health. Best of luck and don't be a stranger!
  13. others have said it here already. You know your husband, remember he is human and might be mad or just plain hurt. I think once he understands that you do want him to be involved, he will come around. My husband to this day is not in favor of the surgery due to the fact that he thinks I am "just perfect the way that I am".... but when I sat down with him and told him that I was doing this for me, for my future and not what I think he wants and that I wanted him to do some research and be with me through out the process, he jumped on the band wagon and took everything in stride from interviewing the surgeon to staying with me through the hospital stay and helping me heal. To this day he goes to my support meetings, doctor's appointments and tells me everyday how sexy and gorgeous I am. Just today as I was trying on some new clothing that he bought for me, he told me that he still did not believe that I needed to have surgery, but not to get him wrong, cause he supports me in my decision and he hopes that I see that support everyday. I hope you and others have the support and love that I have and I wish you luck!

    I'm 51 -- too old?

Like the others it is never too late! I was banded last year (Aug. 2010) at the age of 52. I have been lucky, no problems and still have yet to have a fill. I exercise and continue to work on changing my eating behavior, however, I am off the blood pressure and cholesterol lowering medication and the only things that I now take are multivitimans and supplements. My joints are dancing with joy, up until last year, I was limping and was lucky if I could walk around the block without getting winded and experiencing ankle, knee and hip pain! Today, even when the weather is cold, I feel no pain and now climb 9 flights of stairs without pain, and have only a slight amount of breathlessness. I wish you success!

What can I do? I am so frustrated.

call the customer service hotline and ask them if they take time/dated photos and if they will take the documents that you do have. prediabetes and hypertension are comorbities, if you have joint problems, this can be considered a comorbidity. Good luck!
  16. Elfiepoo, LOL, yes indeed it was and I thought to myself, if they have nothing better to do than stare at my nooks and crannies, then go ahead, hope they have good psych insurance cause after seeing my body....well they will be scarred for life! I asked the tech/about what would they be concerned about as I had had WLS and that is what he told me.
  17. Teekii, I know it is hard to stop those bad habits. Do some further research on the band and you will find that it does not prevent you from eating. It helps with portion control and hopefully hunger once restriction sets in. The types and choices of foods will be yours to make all through this process. Call your doctor, let him or his team know of your extreme hunger and see if he/they will allow you to advance your food levels. Try drinking added protein some for some folks it helps with the hunger. Wishing you luck in learning new ways....
  18. i have flown several times since being banded. I was never patted down, but was told that they pay attention to the surgical incisions and it may cause them to question whether something had been inserted under the skin.
  19. Way to go Shirley and Larry!

3 Weeks post op and need some help!

as long as you are mindful of the types of food that you are eating, this is normal. I lost up front until i started solid foods and then did not loose any weight for a couple of weeks and then started loosing. it is natural for us to fear the weight gain as for most of us we have not been successful with dieting and what has been our experience with that? we gain...keep heart. Journal your food, water, and exercise keep track of your measurements as sometimes your body will loose inches and not pounds. Good luck to everyone no matter what stage in the process that you are!

    fifties and pre-op surgery support

Everyone, take care and have a great Easter! WE are not alone. Taralynne, To tell or not to tell, I think the choice is dependent upon you and how you feel about the surgery and having to possibly listen to others who may not be so supportive. Myself, I could care less if someone thinks I'm taking the easy way out (no one has done that to me, but I have heard about others having that experience) I chose to tell everyone who wanted to know and especially at work since I did not want them to think that I had some traumatic disease process going on. My DH has been great! He is my biggest supporter and with the exception of complimenting me on my "wrinkly butt" ( he really thought that he was making the best of compliments. I guess it is the difference in how men vs. women think) he has been great! My co-workers have been and still are supportive, they compliment me often and are always asking about how I am feeling, not how much weight, but checking to make sure that I am feeling good and strong. Pictures, I think are a great idea to take every so often while you travel down this road and work the process. I know that when I look in the mirror ... I see me, my old self even though I know what the scales, smaller clothing, energy levels, etc tell me that I am loosing...pictures hit home. Just remember you are not alone in this we are all here together.
  23. Happy Easter to all! Michelle good to hear about that healthy baby! To the others I am so hoping that you all are doing ok with your surgery outcomes. JanB I had hoped that your band did not have a leak in it. Keep us updated. Just finally broke through with my weight staying the same for about 5 weeks...mixed up my exercising and dietary habits...finally lost some this week. Take care all!
  24. Right back at ya 54 Shirley, have a great holiday!
