I had four days of lasting nausea a few retching episodes. The doc had me sipping on peppermint tea and room temp water so that my "gut" could rest. It did work for me.

Halloween Challenge

Count me in the fun too! -
I usually go out and walk (neighborhood, mall) it usually helps. If it is too late to get out, I will do a puzzle or something equally mindless anything but sit in front of the telly.

Need help, feel like a failure....
thsisme replied to b9409's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
to all who have posted here... well said/written. b9409 You've had some tough love here and there have been some softer replies all with the intent to assist you through some tough times. We all are human and need help now and again. The time is to take some of the advice that has been given, look yourself in the mirror and tell yourself that you are not so bad afterall. You've fallen off the wagon, now get back on, call your doctor, nutrtionist, psychologist whomever/whatever you have available to you and get moving back in the right direction. There will be a day soon enough when someone will benefit from your advice and there will come a time when hopefully you will like yourself. After all, if you were so horrible would we all be here for you? I think not. So come on, be angry with yourself for a short time (time is up) start making those appointments and jump back into life! let us know how you are doing. :blushing: -
Pre-op tomorrow question
thsisme replied to lovemysgt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
General blood work: CBC, electolytes (Calcium, potassium, etc...); chest x-ray; EKG; some hospitals pre-admit so all of your paperwork for the hospital is done already (insurance card, share of cost, etc...). There may be some other tests as dictated by your physician. Hope this helps....:blushing: -
Do you have access to a dietician? You might want to review a couple of weeks of food journaling and see if there might be some dietary changes or whether or not your protein intake is adequate. take heart. :blushing:

Here Come the Emotions...
thsisme replied to SarahMarie123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
SarahMarie, if you are certain this is what you want to do, then do it. If it is not, then don't...alas no easy answer. I think it is ok to be emotional, but don't wallow, follow your instincts and do what is right for you. Food is most of our addiction(s) and now we get to face the challenge of re-building ourselves, not many people get that kind of chance. As you go post op (should you decide to have your banding done) know that you are not alone and there are many ways to make your food taste good while learning new healthy habits. I wish you well and please let us know your decision!:blushing: -
banded 6 days ago and Im hungry!!
thsisme replied to carebear99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats! How are you doing with proteins? Usually, protein drinks will help give you a full feeling, at least that is what worked for me. Getting past the psychological nuances is tough liquids vs. solids was hard for me when I becam hungry or started thinking about solid food and it wasn't time for a protein drink...I would go for short walks which seems to have helped me alot. I was banded on 8/23/10 so I am rather new to this too!:blushing: -
mushy food and weight re-gain
thsisme replied to zeniada's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I generally walk until I'm putting some sweat into it, but not weak in the legs and then turn around and head on home. Also, I try to add on 5 min. / day or as I can tolerate it. Sometimes I walk the mall for 30 minutes.:blushing: -
I think that there are many good posts here and some solid advice. Being new to the land of bandster, I can only imagine your frustration and pain. I was banded on Aug. 23, 2010 and the day after experienced 4 days of esophageal spasms, once that calmed down, I drank my protein supplement to fast and went into a 3 day stomach spasm, but all is good today. To make a long story even longer. Talk to your doctor, ask him/her why hasn't the hernia been taken care of? Ask the dietician her/his thoughts about starting your diet over again and re-introduce foods back into your system while doing your exercise. I am not saying that this is some else's fault nor am I saying that it is your fault...I am saying use and obtain the folks who have the information you need to get healthy and to stay healthy. I wish you the best. Bandster hell.....boy am not looking forward to that journey!
