    PLEASE HELP ME

Your port site is probably sore due to the abdominal contractions of vomiting/retching. Keep to your fluids and make sure you take in protein for one or two days. If you are still extremely sore consult your physician. Don't let it ruin your holidays. Consider it lessons learned...Hoping that you feel better.

    I feel so cheated.

Who knows why life hadns us these disappointments? However, start taking a look at the various civilian jobs that work on projects to assist our men and women in the service to make their jobs a bit easier and live a lot longer. My husband is a soft ware engineer and works on various projects for the government. Please take heart there is more than one way to make part of your dream come true. In the mean time. great going with your weight loss!

    Steri Strips?

Just let them fall off as they will. Once they fall off check the site(s) to make sure that you are healing well...

    NSV

Congratulations! It is empowering when we do something like this for ourselves. Over thanksgiving we were traveling and I thought that I had chosen well only to find out that the small salad had 400 some calories and the cup of soup called "vegetable" was something made out of lapband hell! I forgave myself upped my exercise regime and lost 3 lbs that week. First time I stopped beating myself up and just moved on. After y weekly weigh in and found out that I lost....boy, did I feel great! No psychological beat up, just positive planning with great results. It is what we do with our situation and how we deal with ourselves.

    Christmas Challenge

Lost another 3 lbs. I'm holding out against the christmas snacks and goodies....errr, I mean icky x-mas snacka at work.
  7. yes, I did and still occasionally do feel my port. At first it stung and was almost like a weight. At first I was scared that it might have broken the sutures, but as it turned out is was a combination of movement and the body shape adjustments that were happening, i.e. lost poundage and bloating made it possible for the tummy to jiggle around.

  8. I couldn't agree more. I have never thought about the brushing teeth, but will keep it in mind. I usually go out for a walk. you may have a hobby that you can keep handy. At work, I am able to get up and walk around and sometimes, I walk around the block. The hardest thing and still is for me is to trash left overs, but I do it so I am not tempted to pick at it when I shouldn't.
  9. The port site takes the longest to heal and for the soreness to go away or at least that is what I have been told by many bandsters that are older than I. Look for signs of redness/swelling/hot to touch (general signs of infection). If you have none of these signs it may be that you are working your abs and the healing is taking it's time. Hopefully, there is nothing more than that. The worst case scenerio is that you have ripped some sutures. Good luck!
  10. How much Protein are you taking in? Give the doc's office a call tomorrow and let them know of your difficulties. Depending upon your intake you may not be getting enough protein. With that written, the pre op diet is not an easy road...giving carbs up cold turkey can cause some of your symptoms also. Good luck and don't give up.

    Never Got Onboard

You're doing great! We tend to beat ourselves up and forget that we are humans trying to change some nasty behaviors. Our process is not for the faint of heart! Forgive yourself and focus on what you are doing right and as others before have posted focus on changing one behavior at a time!

    Excited ... but nervous!!!

Congratulations! I would say that it is healthy to be nervous, this is an exciting time! Keep in touch and let us know how you are doing!
  13. Explore your options and choose which one is right for you! I would suggest that you get a physical first to ensure that your labs and such are in good order and read, read, search, search each of the WLS options so that you can make an informed decision. I took about a year exploring my options and getting my family on board with my decision. I am older than you, but want a good retirement (at least as much of it as I can control) and at 52 decided enough was enough, my joints were killing me, I was feeling tired at just thinking of doing anything close to exercise. It turned out that before I could hae my WLS I had a parathyroid problem which took care of alot of the overt feelings of pain and exhaustion that I had and then once I was cleared went onto have my band and I am not looking back! I feel good, my joints like me again and even though I still am not in love with exercising, I do it because I am getting results. I wish you the best of luck in your choices and will encourage you to go for it!
  14. It will pass. I am sorry to hear your pain is so bad just remember movement is good even if it is a little at a time and taken in short spurts of time. I started with just walking around the house and then making it down the street for 5 minutes or so and gradually built up. It is worth the time and trouble.
  15. Keep on going, you will be fine. the heavy feeling by / on the port site is normal and indicative of the swelling along with the bloating. Walking is the best way to get the bloating down, you may want to try some gas-X or similar product to assist with dealing with any internal gas caused from the protien drinks. The carbon dioxide from surgery will go as you walk. The port site is usually the last bit of soreness that goes away and will slowly get better and better with time. Good Luck!
  16. I agree with Dave. All of my co-workers know and for the vendors they need not know. I eat what I want and tell them that I am counting my calories and like Dave suggested, I turn the conversation over to another topic.

    Struggling

give your doc a call to see if he/she might want to do some blood work, you could be low on iron...or you might just need to take some B-12 while you get your strength back. wishing lots of luck!
  19. Absolutely, you are not alone! We all in one way or the other have our challenges. I have learned as some others have too that when we go out, i pick what I can eat from the menu. I use the bread plate for my dinner plate and take the rest home. One of two things will happen to the food either I have a week's worth of meals or the dog is a happy camper. We have now incorporated into our nights out a walk before we eat and after we eat this way we can enjoy each other without food. I think it is apart of the learning experience of being banded and learning how to live with certain constraints while re-blending our new life together as a family. Mind you this process has not been easy for any of us to adapt to, but we continue to try.
  20. Have not had a fill as of yet. My surgeon told me that as long as I am averaging 2-3 lbs /week we will wait until a fill is needed. However, I am taking this time to read and learn from others so that I can be as prepared as realistically possible for the "fill experience".

    After the surgery....

I was up every two hours after surgery for 24 hours post op and then I walked every day for up to 30 minutes gradually building back strength and endurance.
  22. my small 25-30 lb reward is to take a picture of myself and compare before and then. Middle rewards is to buy clothing and to donate my old clothing. For my end goal: I am going to spend 3 weeks in Europe with my honey doing and seeing things that up until now we have only been talking about.
  23. As hard as this is....put away the scale for at least two weeks if not a month, concentrate on inches lost. Obviously, you are doing something right for your body if you are still losing inches. The weight will come off. I hear the last 30 or so pounds are often the hardest (not that I know of this first hand, but others who have been there have told me this). Keep the faith!:smile2:

    Time off work?

I took 3 weeks off by that time my incisions had completely closed and I was exercising and eating food. I have a moderately strenuous job and by the time that I came back to work I had pep and vigor and did not have any energy issues (I work 12-14 hours/day).
  25. Debh, don't get too far down in the dumps! as the others have said before this post, many factors could be at work here! Take a look at uping your calorie intake it is amazing that we spend our lives being told that less calories means weight loss, but if we get to a certain point our bodies tell us otherwise. Slowly increase your caloric intake up to 1200 cal/day. keep your protein up and see where your body takes you. I went from less than 500/day to 800cal/day and increased my protein intake to approx. 70gs before the old body wanted to drop some of its' beloved poundage!
