All These Complications are Making Me Nervous!!!
thsisme replied to LaurenAshely's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Sorry that you're having a rough time of it. Not knowing your intake and types of intake or the temperature of them...Have you tried liquids at room temp or even warm? Not hot and not cold. Your stomach is probably very extremely irritated. I know mine was. I sipped warm peppermint tea for two days until my stomach started to settle. I walked and I walked some more. Try a warm heating pad over your tummy. How are you doing now? -
It is never too late to change! Congrats on your decision and I wish you the best of luck. This site is pretty good at covering most topics/concerns that you might have.
-
Welcome, There are a few fellows here that are on pretty regular. Congrats on keeping yourself under control. It is a process and one has to work with their band if you are to be successful! I wish you the best of luck!

2011 - banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group
thsisme replied to ElfiePoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nothing like the new year to get back where we need/want to be. Made it through the holidays without too much pain. Only had the two youngest over for the holidays and was very controlled during holiday celebrations elsewhere. The house has already been cleared of the tempting foods and I am ready to continue on with my path in life. -
It pays to be your own advocate and not be afraid to ask those tough questions and to expect the surgeon to meet your needs ...not their's. I too did research and had my husband do research as we think in opposite directions and then we sat down discussed what our knowledge was and what questions we wanted to ask not only of the surgeon, but his office staff right down to the team that were going to be doing all of the follow up, I.e. suport groups, nutrition, physical therapist. I could not be happier with the team that I chose. They are realistic and supportive.

Melissannde, please forgive me, I spelled your name wrong!
-
Lapbander71 give yourself a congrats and an pat on the back for getting back on the wagon. Start all over again. #1 forgive yourself and take the lessons learned from your recent experience and then start walking forward again to the land of weight loss. I would suggest that like Mellisande stated make an appt. with your physician to get re-evaluated, start at the beginning, stop drinking Fluid while you eat and take Melissande's rules print them out, put them on your fridge or in your wallet. You can do this...it won't be easy, but well worth it, you know this to be truth or you would not be here today.

August Rush in bandland!
thsisme replied to AmberK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is so good to see how everyone is hanging in there! I have had a good holiday time while keeping to my goals and continuing to loose weight and exercise on a routine basis. Managed to get through what seemed like a ton of potlucks and holiday get togethers and managed not to loose myself in the bad stuff. Still loosing about 2 lbs/week. I see my surgeon on the 4th and doubt that he will give me a fill which means that I am still fill free since surgery. I have not made any lofty new year's goals and have just decided to continue the one that I made last year and that is to continue the lapband process, be supportive of those that need it and seek support when I need it. Happy New Year everyone! -
Welcome Chad!

I'm not getting post-op support and I have questions
thsisme replied to leighmackelvey@comcast.net's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're doing great! focus on healing, try warm fluids and keep away from cold ones. The warmth will assist in keeping the stomach from being irritated. Try to get your fluids in as prescribed by your surgeon's office, and watch your Protein intake to make sure that you get enough protein. Your stomach is still the same size with a very major difference and that is the band has now made a slightly narrower opening and you have a small pouch on top of the band that will hold small amounts of food and let it slowly empty down into the stomach for processing. The slow emptying will give you some sense of fullness especially Proteins. When your physician/surgeon's office opens up...I would ask them who or what number do you call after hours or on holidays. Someone should be available to you when you need them. Good luck! -
Does anyone ever NOT get a fill?
thsisme replied to BostonPA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No fill here since surgery on Aug. 23rd. Still no hunger pains / sensations. If I forget to eat, sometimes I will hear my stomach growl which at first was alittle wierd for me, now I am used to it on those occasions and use it as a reminder to eat. -
Karen, I don't know that I want to do any butt kickin seems like you are doing a pretty darn good job of it all by yourself! You know what you've been doing wrong and you know what you're facing while correcting the problem, also you know that you want to correct it. Get off the pity pot and get going! I too hate exercise, ABSOLUTELY HATE IT!!!! however, because of my slightly deviant personality, I exercise every day and if I miss a day I double up the next, just to keep me focused and so that I can't make excuses for myself as to why it is ok to skip. I do exercise every day because if I don't tomorrow will never come for me. Even with the endorphins which make me feel good....I hate to exercise. If I can do it so can you! Time to start taking some of that butt kickin attitude and lets get going! Wishing you the best of luck! Go Karen, Go Karen!

As far as meals/liquids and such, it will be provided for you in the hospital. Check with your surgeon's office as to when he/she would like for you to start taking your vitimans. Mine had me wait for a week before starting the vitamins. you'll be in and out of the hospital before you know it!

How much protein are you taking in? are you staying hydrated? Are you exercising? Many questions to be answered. sometimes the body will require a certain amount of protein and a certain amount of calories before it will start to loose the weight. I have to hit the mid 70 percentile in grams of protein before my body will loose weight.

Need to stop beating myself up.....
thsisme replied to MaineJackie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Agree with the others. Empower yourself by forgiving yourself and move on! YOU kept to small portions! YOU did not go back for seconds! YOU are ready to get back on your weight loss life plan! Kudos to you! I think you should look yourself in the mirror and congratulate yourself on how far you have come! Great job! -
The holidays are harsh for us all! think about your weight loss so far! Sounds like you are doing well. I was banded in August of this year and let me tell you passing by the sweets and keeping my portions under control was indeed challenging, but so far I have made it and I too plan on being around for my grand kids. Keep it up! you are doing great! What a fabulous christmas gift to yourself!

Congrats to the both of you! Finding support can be tough, but know that people who are not walking in our shoes do not always understand the difficulties of our food addiction and how it is not will power that is needed but rather some tools and in our cases a tool placed by surgery to assist us to go where we need/want to go. I have been heavy all of my life, been up and down the scale so many times I'd be rich if I had a penny for each of those times. Tried all sorts of diets some with results and some with just relief when it was over and in the end I failed to keep the weight off. I have come to a place in my life where I really could care less if people understand me or not. I tell those that I choose to tell about my surgery and talk openly about it when people ask. If they think i am weak...OK...can't help them there. I have been very blessed in the fact that when I told my hubby he got behind me and is supporting me everyday in every way that he can, my co-workers are good too! I wish you both well on this process known as the band!
-
Peter, the band is a tool and your choice if you chose to do WLS will be up to you. AS with any WLS there are ways to cheat and not loose or even one can gain weight. You have to work it! Your behavior, eating habits, exercise habits, and how you deal with your eating issues. Definitely do some research and see which one fits into your life style and makes you comfortable. It may be the band, it might be something else. I too am a stress eater and I work at it everyday. I get up from my desk and walk when I want to reach for the candy jar because i'm stressed. By the way the candy jar is gone and I keep anything that might tempt me out of the house, car, office or where ever I am. If I am in a social situation, I walk away, grab a glass/bottle of flavored Water and congratulate myself on making such a smart move. I also have a very strong support system, both at home and at work. I am truly blessed to have a partner in my hubby and to be loved by those that I work with. I exercise everyday because if I have down time, I will make excuses as to why I cannot or don't have time to exercise. My reward is knowing that I am empowering myself and becoming my own being without the crutch of food! Take care I wish the best for you!

What am I doing wrong 3rd day post op?
thsisme replied to Linnielady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my surgeon's office reccommended Peppermint tea to help melt the stomach swelling and I would imagine that the heat from the tea would help the pill dissolve faster? -
No, I am not Pregnant, thank you. I'm just fat.
thsisme replied to hautemama's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
To all who have posted here...I say to you....Good for you, you are willing and determined to make a change not only for yourselves, but for those that you love! People will be rude, ignorant, uncaring, and just plain embarrassed for what comes out of their or their family's mouth, but it has made you more aware and with awareness can come strength. You my dears have come to some ugly conclusions (much like the rest of us have) and you are doing something about! I am truly sorry that you were hurt in this process and nothing worth while will come easy, but look at you now and know what you will be in the future....feeling good about ourselves, because we are already beautiful where it counts in the heart! -
Mine was tender at the start and has slowly gotten to the point four months later that it is without any type of soreness or tenderness. I am told that the port site is takes the longest to heal due to the port being sutured to the abdominal wall and we use our abdominal muscles frequently so the healing is a tad bit slower. Everyone heals at different speed.

Great NSV! You have made my day with this story! Congrats on losing your pants!

8 days post op and cheated:( on holidays!!
thsisme replied to queencmtj's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Forgive yourself and continue on with your program. You've had a nice time with your families, now start learning about living with the band. I think we all fall off the wagon at one time or another. It is a powerful tool to forgive oneself! -
August Rush in bandland!
thsisme replied to AmberK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone drops weight at different rates. On average you've been dropping approx. 1lb or slight more a week. That isn't bad! The band is only a part of the solution. How is your exercise regime? Caloric intake? This isn't gastric bypass where one is expected to drop their weight faster. Perhaps those people that you know need to be educated and in the end this is your life not theirs. Slow down work on the type of foods that you are eating and chew, chew, chew. Take care and good luck -
5 days post op and made it through Christmas!
thsisme replied to amber2604's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats to the both of you! Physicians have different patterns of how they progress you towards food. Remember sugar free candies have their place, but they bring no nutritional value and if eaten in the wrong amounts can also stop the weight loss. I am weak when it comes to candy and chocolate so I avoid them at all costs and do not even touch them as I can never eat one or two...Have a great holiday!
