Well, my story is probably like a lot of other people. I have been over weight since I was 8. My mother had me on diets from that point, and I have tried almost everything to try to lose weight. Everything worked for a short while, and then I would get discouraged and before I knew what was happening, I was gaining back the weight I lost plus more. I have always had a very low metabolism, so I could eat no more than other people and gain weight because I wasn't moving around alot. My back and knees have given me trouble for about 6 years, and I have been very limited as to how much exercise I do, at least that's my excuse. I now weigh more than I ever have.Because I have failed at every other attempt to lose, I am skeptical to tell people that I am having the surgery. I'm afraid I will fail at this too. I need a lot of positive feed back. I need to hear success stories. The final straw that made me go to the meeting about lap band was my 34 yr old daughter. She told me that she wanted her mother back. She wants me to go shopping with her again. It will be a dream come true, shopping, cleaning, simply moving around.I have been to my preliminary meeting, and my psychological evaluation, and so far, so good. I meet with Dr. Ross on 9-1-10, and I am not sure what all is next, I think, the esophagus test he does and the 2 weeks of liquid diet, hopefully I am less than a month away from surgery. I am really beginning to get excited.
