    Nurses

I think as nurses we suffer from a lot of dysfunctional backgrounds making us the ideal caregivers. Most of the nurses I know are people pleasers and put others needs first over our own. As someone else said we understand it's the least extreme of the weight loss surgeries with a very good outcome. We're the worst when it comes to "Do as I say, not as I do." I think anyway. Nice to meet you all.

tell me you love your band!

I was just banded on the 18th. I woke up the first morning home and thought, "OMG, the pain, what have I done?" I'm day 3 post op now and since the pre op diet I'm down 9 lbs. I know that's only a drop in the bucket compared to most, but they're my 9 lbs I've lost! 9 lbs I've not been able to get rid of easily until now. I too had cold feet a few days before my surgery. Honestly I tried to reschedule but when I called they said the next available surgery date wouldn't be til the end of Feb. Having to go through the pre op stuff again, I just decided to go ahead with it. While they were prepping me for surgery I broke down and just started bawling after getting an IV started. I think it was a culmination of my nerves and the unknown. I just keep coming back to the big picture.....my family. I am "morbidly obese", which means if I don't change something this will end my life prematurely. I have 4 yr old girls and a wonderful husband. They're my inspiration. My momma died young at 52. My grandma was only 47 when she passed away so my mom was without her mother as well. I don't want to leave that legacy to my daughters. I want to live the healthiest life I can with the time I have left. Each day is a gift and if this is the tool that will let me experience one more day with the ones I love here on earth then I'm falling in love with my band. Good luck to you and your journey. It helps to have a bigger picture and keep it posted somewhere where it gives you the inspiration you need to pull your cold feet outta the rut and get moving.

    my Lovenox hurt today!

the higher up on your stomach you go the more it might hurt. You should be at least one finger from your navel and then go lower than you navel. I did mine too high today and it hurt too. Lovenox is notorious for stinging, even minutes after it's been given. "Honk" is right, don't rub, you'll make the bruise to the site worse.
  4. Poor thing, sorry to hear you're so bored. I've been catchin up on sleep today. I only got about 3 hours of sleep in the hospital. Hope I can sleep tonight too. I know what you mean tho, my husband took off the next two weeks and he's bad at sitting still. He wanted to go walk to mall today, I said "NO WAY". Maybe you should too if you're feeling up to it. Might be fun to window shop for all those skinny clothes and shoes you'll be able to fit in this time next year!
  5. I'm feeling ya on this one. Banded on the 18th. Just got home from the hospital today. I find the gas pains to be just as bad as the incision sites. OH, and I figured out really quick my stomach IS only the size of a shot glass. I'm on a full liquid diet and it said I could have blended Soups, so I prepared a cups worth after having 1/2 c of chicken broth. I've violated the law of 30's already. I won't do that again! Good luck to you all.
  6. All you out there on the slate for tomorrow are on the prayer list. I wish each and every one of you measured success. Praying that all goes well during your surgeries and that you heal quickly. One more prayer, that you learn how to live peacefully with your new tool. Good luck tomorrow ladies (and gentlemen if that be the case)
  7. I'm going in on the 18th. Quite frankly, I'm excited. However, I do feel like a worm on a hook. Thank goodness I'm still seeing my psychologist and was able to talk through it all yesterday. I didn't realize how big of an emotional eater I was. Everyday is yet another step in this journey. Getting pretty tired of the pre-op stuff. I too have slipped a little but still managed to loose 9 lbs so far. I wish you luck and look forward to hearing about your progress.
  8. Good luck to both of you! God speed and hope you're up and about soon. Keep us posted.
  9. Congratulations as well. My surgery date is the 18th. I'm also 260 lbs. give or take a few pounds depending on the day. I'm nervous and excited as well. I wrote a stent about the Protein shakes I'm taking and they're really good (in the thread, "what's your favorite pre-op protein shake). I've not as hungry as I thought I would be and they're sugar free. Keeping my fingers crossed for you. I hope these next few days go fast and that your recovery is swift. Hang in there.
  10. One stop shop would be nice. I had to go quite a few places due to my insurance (Tricare) It took me from August to Jan. My PCM (doctor) drug his feet and wanted me to try this weight loss program he offered at his clinic. So I went for sake of argument. Didn't loose any weight and he signed my surgical clearance in Nov. I wanted to wait til after the holidays and start the new year out on a different change of pace. Good luck with your process.
  11. Jay Robb egg white Protein (they also make whey protein) shake mix in Vanilla, chocolate and strawberry are SO good. No sugar added, sweetened with Stevia. I mix a banana in with the Vanilla or Stawberry to make smoothies since I'm not a huge fruit fan. I have just straight vanilla I add a little cinnamon and nutmeg and I feel like I'm cheating with eggnog. My husband lost a bunch of weight last year and is really into fitness now, so he's tasted the gammet of protein shakes and says this one by far is his favorite. I think they're really yummy and have 24 grams of protein per scoop serving. I'm surprisingly not very hungry. I'm doing 3 shakes a day with one low fat/ low carb meal and the 3-5 servings of fruits and veggies. You can get Jay Robb at Krogers. As for a meal, it's steamed fish (talapia) with hot sauce (only a smidge) with steamed veggies and jasmine rice. I also made a low fat/low sodium Soup from chicken breast, broccoli, carrots and red Beans that was a tomato base with cajun spices. Really good stuff. I'm on day 4. Good luck with your journey and weight loss. Keep us posted. Here's the website for Jay Robb http://www.jayrobb.com/
  12. I just bawled yesterday and was fighting with the husband cause my pre op diet starts on the 2nd. I've been stewing over what I want my last meal to be.....how ridiculous is that?! I've been seeing a psychologist since it was one of my pre op requirements. He's helped me sort out a lot of issues already, but I'm afraid I've got a lot more work to do. Everyone keeps describing this as a journey, and I wholeheartedly believe it's going to be one unforgetable ride. I wish you lots of luck and embrace this new chapter of your life.
  13. I'm scheduled for my surgery the 18th too! I'm excited and nervous all in the same breath. I start the pre op diet on the 2nd. I'm mourning the loss of life as I know it at the present, but grateful for the opportunity to get healthy and extend my life with my beautiful family. My kids are my biggest inspiration. I too have sleep apnea and am now sleeping with a CPAP machine. I can tell the difference already and I would have never gone for a sleep study on my own. Wishing you lots of luck as you finish up your testing. Thanks for starting this topic. Looking forward to keeping up with all of your progress and with those posted here.
