  1. I agree that those sneak snack attacks at night are a real problem for me. It's almost like my "reward" at the end of a hard day to kick back, watch a little TV and then look for something good to snack on. We all know what we are supposed to do and not do, it's just putting this into place and following through. The only answer I can come up with is possibly a radical lifestyle change that will not let us fall into this habit. I'm not talking take a bath, doing your nails. That does not work for me. I'm thinking a change in routine, possibly going to the gym at night or taking classes.

    issues with alcohol after surgery

Sorry you are going through this. Seems food addiction and other addictions can coincide. I have a brother right now over the edge with alcohol and am very, very worried about him. If you check the other sites here, there is a 12 step program for OA and there are other posts related to this issue. Being from a family of alcohol issues, I can see where you are really having a hard time and hope you can find the answers you need.
  3. This is a good question. I have also read that you have to give your skin time to rebound from the weight loss. I think it all depends on what type of outcome you want to achieve. I agree with Jachut as far as there still being some fat with the leftover skin. The excess skin itself basically just hangs almost paper thin. I would think that would be pretty hard to get rid of, but maybe over time?

    Deep pain in pannus region

Thanks Sue! I actually had my yearly check-up yesterday and my doctor thinks it could be a hernia. I still have about 30 lbs. to go, so not sure where I'll go from here. My new insurance does not cover my band, so now I'm worried if I do go for the tummy tuck and I need a port revision, it may not be covered. I guess I'll just have to take it one day at a time. Sue, I live in Lowell, MA. Nice to see a neighbor!

    Not Confident Enough

I joined a gym that has a women only room. I think most gyms have those now. I know it's not easy, but I just started this week. I just kind of sneak in there. One woman got on the treadmill next to me and refused to even look at me so I could say hello. Not to worry, people just want to get in and out and do "their" thing. I started out walking for about 6 months daily in my neighborhood and then worked up to joining the gym. I think the walking helped. Just do what feels comfortable to you and remember the people that work there are there to help. Ask questions!
  6. This is a great thread! I hope we can all keep this going as I could have written just above every post here! Will be 3 yr. Anniv. for me on March. Would really like to be at least under 200 if not closer to 190. I like the measuring tape idea, as I have been walking just about every day, but only really see the difference when looking at my thighs not on the scale. Would love to check into this thread daily!

    I hate fat people!!!

Tommy, You are a very wise man! Cannot possibly find a better response to this post and thank you for reminding me that it is only "me" that allows myself to feel the way I do and to respond to the negativity in life. Thank you!!!
  8. Too Much, well said! Typo, how are you doing? It would be great to keep this thread going, as I have been struggling also. My insurance no longer covers my band, so I am not checking in as much as I should, but I do walk every day. I think that is the only thing keeping me from gaining right now til I can get my head in the right place again.
  9. I started thinking from reading some of these posts, that gosh, being about 30 lbs. from goal, I can't even imagine how thrilling it must be. On the other hand, I need a kick in the backside to push me there. Hoping some of your stories will give me encouragement to reach my goal. My 3 year bandiversary is in March 2010. Has it taken anyone 3 years to reach your goal? I'm starting to feel discouraged. It must be fantastic! :rolleyes2:

Tell us how great it is to reach goal!

Thank you all for your answers. Jachut, you look terrific. You should be very proud of yourself. We should all be very proud! We are all so hard on ourselves, I wonder if we ever feel we are at goal. Kelin, congrats on reaching your goal. I hope I can come at least close to it!

Will your Fat Jeans be your LEGGacy??

I still have "issues" getting rid of some of my clothes. Problem is, I LOVE all my clothes, big and smaller. Can't help it, slowly but surely though I have gotten rid of probably 3/4's of them. What I refuse to do though is hold up my old jeans and take a sort of before and after photo. That has always bothered me, I don't know why. I know people don't mean anything by it, but it always used to hurt my feelings. Like "look at these FAT old disgusting pants I used to wear". Those FAT old pants were probably not even as big as some of the ones I was wearing at the time. Oh well, so, my answer is Yes, certainly hold onto your old jeans as a reminder.

    I hate fat people!!!

I think "hate" is a very stong offensive word. I see where you are coming from, but I have issues with you using the word hate and I find it hurtful. Sorry, but that's the way I feel.

    Husband doesn't notice weight loss

Hi Humming Bird, I have lost 70+ lbs. with "no" compliment from my husband. To be honest, I think it's petty on their part. I agree that if you have to ask for a compliment, it's just not the same. I think there are some underlying issues whey they are behaving like that, but life is too short to worry about it. He's a good person, I guess I just have to let some things go. When I'm ready, I'll ask him why.

Had my first negative response today :-(

I work in x-ray and this totally p'd me off!!!! Report her ASAP. Be sure to go about it the right way. Don't just call the hospital blindly, sit down and write a letter "personal and confidential" to the X-Ray Manager and also to the president of the hospital. That is just totally WRONG!!!

seriously effed up body image issues

:crying: My issue is the baggy looking neck. I got a glimse of it one time at the hairdresser's office in the bright light. What can you do about it besides investing in PS. Being 50+ I have decided that a little extra weight actually plumps up the face and neck, so I'm not going to overly fret over it. I probably would have looked this way if I had been a very thin person anyway. The thing is, we are not perfect and I think our expectations may have been a little out of whack, but it's all good. Any body isssues, just cover them up. That's how I think about it. I wear sleeves that are not overly short and wear my slimming undergarments when I go out. I'm not going to kill myself at my age trying to overly work out so I can look good in a bathing suit the possible 3 or 4 times I may opt out in front of a crowd at the beach. I walk every day. A little cardio would not kill me, I do admit that and is something I am going to look into. Life is too short to worry about such things. Just go out there and enjoy it!
  16. I absolutley LOVE that show. Love the father/son interaction and the kindness shown to their patient. Whole show is just great.

    PS suggestions for MA?

I had BR with Dr. Dina Eliopolous. She is in Chelmsford, MA. I'm thinking further up North and away from Boston, the prices could be cheaper. She is wonderful, classy and very professional. I cannot find one negative thing to say about her and her staff were very nice. She is about 30/40 min. from Boston. She has a web page. Good luck!

    ugh...a crappy fat moment

HI Bostonmomma, I'm from the Boston area too. I am about 5 Minutes from the NH border. Good luck with your first meeting! I'm sorry about your experience, but these things just make us stronger and push us on! :tongue2: We are tough Yankees!
  19. Steven, thanks for your honesty! This is a great post. Lets keep this going!! Being a few years out, I am also struggling. I think we need to be "accountable" and have the regular weigh-ins. I think that is a BIG problem for me. Too much freedom. I chowed down some Choc. ice cream last night and now feel like SHete! This bites! The first year was awesome, but now it's all ME that has to do the work. I don't think that really sets in in the beginning. We are all excited and happy with the results at first then we hit that WALL (plateau) and the rest has to come from us. I am thrilled with my weight loss so far, but when I look in the mirror I still see the overweight size 14 woman. BYI...what are overweight women called Plus sized "gals" lol..that bugs me to no end. Thanks for listening. :scared2:
  20. Special K, OK got ya! Lol.. I wanted something BAD so BADDD today at the store, but I resisted. I used to the love those soft butter mints that melted in your mouth! Good grief! Special K, I am working a candy fair with my family next week. I well standing there selling 2,000 pounds of fudge. Help me!!!
  21. Are we talking about those wrapped mints - Brachs starbrite "starlite" wrapped mints? I can see those being 20 calories each. They are like a butterscotch hard candy. The tiny little butter mint candies that are just in a dish, I don't think they are 60 calories for three of them. They are each about the size of a tiny, tiny button right? I may be wrong, but I am in the candy business so I googled it.
  22. Hi Ready, I also thank that latest poster for her "kind" words. Sorry you are going through a bad patch right now. It happens. We just have to pick ourselves up and try to dig deep to see what's eating us! I have the same problem lately and am trying to really analyze what is really going on. I am stuck at the computer a lot also and am over 50. I find the snacking worse when I am not keeping my hands busy or if I go into "relaxation mode" I feel I want to enhance that good feeling with food. It's a constant battle, but others suggested a food diary. I think that is a good idea. I read an article by Suzie Orman (not a fan), but she was commenting on credit card dept and I thought about this long and hard and I am applyingthis to my eat habits. Before you buy this (in my case "eat this") ask yourself 3 questions. 1. Do I need it. (it is time for a meal) 2. Is it kind to me. (this takes some thought, but empty snacking is hurtful to our plan) 3. Is it good for me. (An apple is OK any time) If you can answer 3 to all qestions then buy (eat) it. This has worked for me lately.

    Dog Ears????

Oh Gosh, What are dog ears from tummy tuck. Is that residual tissue in the back? I have only heard of doggy ears, leftover breast tissue, from a breast reduction. I had this area taken care of when I had my breast reduction by my PS going back about 4 or 5 inches under my arm toward the back area. I didn't know this was a concern also with tummy tucks? :frown:
