gosh...that seems like way too much food. I can get a lot of yogurt down, but the 1 1/2 cups of veggies and the Cookies...that's a lot. I can't even look at a cookie right now.

thanks for the replies! I had another fill the other day and feel pretty good. I'm just wondering how long the restriction lasts..and wonder if I will need fills for years to come.

Jeni, I got a B-12 shot and felt great after. With my pre-op lab work they said they did not think it was too low, but liked to see this higher, so they gave me the shot. I just had my three month post-op blood work and fill find out tomorrow if I need another one. I hope I can get one. I was feeling really tired back a few weeks ago and felt that the shot had worn off.

2nd fill...what a painful experience...ouch!
maryrose replied to CypressMom2007's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, MY first fill. The doctor did it and it hurt like heck!! I was afraid to have another one. The nurse usually gives them and she is 100 times better. My advise is to ask is the nurses do fills there. My nurse actually asked me how my first fill went and I told her "not good". She said I was the third patient that day complaining about that. Sorry you went through that. -
Oh my Gosh Ms. Dad, I came to this site specifically with this ? in mind! I have Appt. for a fill tomorrow, but I really am not 100% sure. I felt really good restriction up til about 2 weeks ago. I can almost pinpoint the meal? Has this ever happened to you? Not thinking, I got through a lot of my mean and then said to myself "what the heck"...I should not have been able to eat that without seriously being ready to PB. I have had a hard time giving up the bingeing thingy and getting myself too full, but this has not happened for a while. I do get that feeling of restriction also from too much "hard Protein" and actually did PB a little bit last night from a lil pig out, I can't for the life of me remember now what I ate...lol. Oh well, I guess I'll find out tomorrow. I'm going to ask for just the smallest amout. I want to be back where I was a few weeks ago. I don't think I have lost more than maybe 2 or 3 pounds in the last month. Good luck Ms Dad!

Hi lindata, I had my surgery in April. From what I have read, it's the side effect of the anesthesia/trauma of surgey that causes this. I did have quite a bit of hair strands flying around, but now 3 months out it seems to be stabilizing. I use Rogaine for women. I went out and bought it right away. It takes 3/4 months to take effect, so I figured I better get an early start. I really haven't noticed it working very much yet, but it's still early. Make sure you get the Protein in too. I heard that is a major cause of hair loss also. Good luck. I would not let this scare you off, from what I hear it's only temporary and mine has stabilized after 3 months.

Restricted But Still Full of Desire (the other kind)
maryrose replied to Nitty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Nitty, I know the feeling. The few times I have given into that urge to eat, I got pretty sick, so just remembering those times make me behave myself! You just want to make sure you have enough restriction, so when you do give in, the band pretty much won't let you. Sorry Nitty, I wish there were more I could tell you about getting over these cravings, maybe someone else will come along and have a better answer. I know the feeling of just wanting to take huge bite of something good! I'm on my second fill also, and feel I may need to be "tweaked" also. I seem to be stuck at the same weight now for a few weeks. I'm hoping these "cravings" and "feelings" will ease up after a while? For me, I think it's just the food addiction itself, I miss the comfort I used to get at certain times of the day from eating. -
I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem. I can't seem to stop my old eating habits and get to the point of PB'ing way too often. I have lost about 30 lbs. Was banded in April. I'm afraid if I can't get my old habits under control, I won't lose any more weight. I know I have enough restriction because I am still losing weight, but certain times of the day I eat things I should not and end up feeling terrible... I just have no self-control. :whoo:

Mis & Jeni ...hang in there. I think Julie has some good advise about the solid protein. I don't think I have been trying hard enough to get the "hard" protein in. I've lost over 30 lbs...but feel stuck at my present weight now for a few weeks. I guess I'm just too anxious. I have been pushing the fluids the last few days...seems to be helping. thanks for all your support! You are all the greatest!

Thanks Jack for your kind words of encouragement! I think I was having a bit of a meltdown, but feeling better today! Good gravy...this is not easy some days. I work from home ....need I say more! I know I need to replace those bad habits with better ones, but putting them into motion is another challenge I need to work on. Thanks again. Rose

Help.. gum question I'm cross posting..
maryrose replied to virginiann's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Not to worry..I'm sure you will be fine. I chew gum too. Was it bubble gum? I swallow that a lot by accident...don't know why...different texture I guess. I have stayed away from the Orbit bubble gum. -
Anyone else SUPER cranky??
maryrose replied to michellyoh's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its a woman thing! I was absolutely wonderfull. No problemo. __________________ Come on Matt...fess up...you weren't just a weeee cranky? hee..hee Michell, I think a lot has to do with being under so much pressure. There is a lot involved with this band and sometimes it can get to you. I don't think our family/friends realize how much we put into this. I don't know how women with small kids do it...I would snap! -
Confession: I WANT a fill, but probably don't need one.
maryrose replied to Paulax's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
What a great post! I can still be a piggly wiggly! That is how I got here to begin with. Don't beat yourself up. You are doing wonderful and are a great inspiration! Do you like any of the Protein shakes? I found a few delicious ones that actually make a wonderful snack. I can give you the names of a few if you want them. Some only have maybe 100 to 150 calories, more is you use skim milk. I add a ton of ice and it's like choc. shake and I can still be a piggly wiggly...lol...these save me at night. -
I may be getting laid off. I do have a chance to sign on with my husbands insurance, but my insurance covers much more. I know it will be expensive, but for myself I really want to stay with my current Tufts plan, which has been great. Does anyone know if the laws change from state to state? Is there a cut-off on how long you can stay on Cobra. Can they change the plan and not cover as much? I have been banded in April 07, but still need future visits, fills, etc. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I'm just afraid I will stay with Tufts and then find out I should have gone with my husbands plan instead. Thanks so much!

Hi Helen, I was told that 1 drink = 3, so be careful! Also alcohol and caffeine can be an irritant to the band itself. I have had one or two drinks and had no problem, but I would definitely not attempt this out of the house or driving til you see how your body will respond. I do enjoy going out with the girls also!

Had first fill on 05/24...already feel like I need another
maryrose replied to horns10's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My doc recommended if no weight loss in 2 weeks to call for another fill. I actually felt no restriction at all and got another fill. Now it's better. I look at the first fill as a "baby step", with not a lot of difference, but as you know, all people are different. I think it's better not to jump into too much restriction too fast..it really is a learning process and I'm still learning. -
The real me is in there somewhere and I want her back....
maryrose replied to Roc's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
What a great post! You sound ready to rock and roll! You go girl! Edie, I can absolutely relate to the car dealership thingy.....I always feel humiliated in those situations! I even feel as though the rip me off sometimes and would charge less money if I were younger and thinner. -
alternative healing with lap band (?)
maryrose replied to lhdahl's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Hi Indahl, I would be interested in what other people thought on this subject also. I am a firm believer in alternative approaches. Massage/touch therapy intrigues me. I have this theory that getting a massage at least 2 to 3 times a week and really working that "extra" skin would really help with results. I may decide to try this. It certainly would not hurt. -
Need to pick my surgeon in MA...
maryrose replied to gingin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
gingin, What area of Mass do you reside? Like Ollie, I had mine done at the Weight Management Ctr. In Chelmsford, MA. Have only good things to say about the group. The before, during and after support is excellent. My second choice would have been Lahey Clinic. -

Thanks you all so much for your replies! Sorry it took so long for my response....the board has been so slow. Not sure if it's my computer or not. I made sure I ate something before my dentist appt. this morning...it sure happens at the strangest times!

:what: Hi big as life. I had my first fill also last Friday. I'm glad it went well for you. I think I expected this huge "altering" difference, but I do not see a major change, but I'm happy with that. Doc did not numb the port area, and I have to honestly say I've had better times...lol. My next fill will be by the nurse, and I have feeling she will have a softer touch! What was your surgery date? Mine was 4/8/07. Do you feel a change in restriction? I really don't notice much of a change in restriction. I'm to call them in 2 weeks if I don't notice at least a 1 lb. weight loss.

Could anyone please help with this? I've been trying to do this for 40 minutes! :help: Thank you so much!

maryrose replied to maryrose's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Conniesue...thank you so much!!!! -
Alexandra, Thanks for the Tader Joe's tip...I'll have to check that out. I was just thinking about that store today. I love their Pomagranate (sp) juice....100% pure and a good value..that stuff is expensive at the supermarket...Though I have been staying away from the juice per nutritionist's advise.
