Plastic surgery alternatives...long
maryrose replied to Luu2008's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Hi Luu, You are smart to look into all options. Have you considered just having the apron removed (pannus)? with a panniculectomy. This procedure is sometimes covered by insurance because of rashes, infections, etc. -

General questions or concerns 6 months out
maryrose replied to hollyu48's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Holly, I have had that happen to me a few times, once about 6 weeks after a fill. Luckily, my fill nurse is great! Have you been under stess lately. I find stress raises heck with my band. I went thru a similar situation where I basically had to put myself back on stage 1 because of stress. -
Breast Reduction scheduled 6/26 - Any Advise?
maryrose posted a topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Hi Ladies, I am scheduled for a reduction this Thurs. I will be seeing the PS on Wed. for markings, etc. Any advise would be greatly appreciated as far as what to expect recovery-wise. Do you have any regrets, issues, etc. that you wished you knew beforehand? Thanks in advance. This site is AWESOME! PS: BTW, I am down about 70 lbs. Daughter getting married in Oct. and have been waiting to shop for my mom-of-the-bride get up post-surgery. I'm hoping I can squeeze in a size 12/14 by Oct. -
Breast Reduction scheduled 6/26 - Any Advise?
maryrose replied to maryrose's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Hi Ladies, Thank you all for your good wishes. I am totally thrilled with the new girls. Still on pain meds, but every day feeling better. I am so glad I did this! Anonymous, the surgeon is Dina Eliopoulous. She's wonderful. -
Hi Ladies, I know this probably sounds like a dumb question, but I just can't (or maybe won't?) seem to make time for myself. I work 6 to 7 days a week unfortunately because of circumstances out of my control right now. I just don't know how to come up with the time or energy to step this thing up to get the last 35/40 lbs off. I know it's up to me to get my lazy butt moving, I just don't know how I can do it. I hope I don't sound like a complainer, I guess I just need a swift kick in the buttocks!

Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts. BBK, I have been reading your post about your surgery. I hope things get better for you! We have all worked so hard to get to this point. Thanks again. -
How do you put "your" needs before your job?
maryrose replied to maryrose's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
thank you all for the encouragement! I just get so frustrated when I see how much better others are doing! I know I should not and I'm really happy for everyone. I know that sounds bad. I guess I'm just in a rut. You all help me so much..thank you! -
Aubrie, I started using Women's Rogaine from the beginning as I have fine baby hair. It has worked great! I received a compliment that my hair really looks thicker. I was a little reluctant to start using this, but now I'm glad I did.

Thanks mango and toogoode for the advise and encourgement! -
Hi Needol, You really need to pamper yourself during this process. There are a ton of great moisterizers and conditioners on the market that don't cost a fortune. I use Paul Mitchel conditioner. I think it's called "the conditioner". It's really not very expensive. It's a leave in conditioner, but you can also use it to shave your legs and you can mix it with Water and spritz on your body. I would never be without it. I have used this for years. I also use Dr. Denese from QVC. I'm 50+ and did not want to come out of this process looking like I aged 10 years and so far so good! You really need to take care of yourself!

Boo Boo Kitty's PS Journey
maryrose replied to Boo Boo Kitty's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
BBK, Sorry for all the problems you are going through. My band surgeon has the personality of a hemorrhoid, but he does amazing work. That being said, where your doc did not do amazing work plus being an A-hole, you definitely need to take this all the way. Just my 2 cents. That painful staple removal was downright MEAN! -
Salsa, Good luck! You have done amazing! You darn "yung uns" really rock! I'm 50+, but I'll get there too! You are a great inspiration! you go girl!

I don't have to shop in the "plus size" section

I just wanted to add, what's with the high waisted tops? I just lot 70+ lbs. I don't want to look preggers! lol. -

maryrose replied to ::tracy::'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It is wonderful to be able to shop the missy sizes, although I admit the styles are a lot trendier. Being in my 50's I think I got used to the "toned" down larger plus sizes (I hate to admit that). I'm still finding my way around! :rolleyes2: -
Unflavored Whey protein
maryrose replied to holly11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's a good question. I would be interested in the answer also. I hate wasting money on Protein powders that I end up trashing. A good place to go is Vitalady.com You can purchase samples, which I do all the time. I like variety. I seem to remember trying a few of the unflavored, but if I can remember correctly, I thought they were a little high in calories and seemed I could still "taste" them. -
Hi lisa, I actually took myself off my meds and monitored my pressure a few times a day. My pressure had gone down to 100/60 average. This happened after I lost about maybe 50/60 lbs. I kept daily tabs and when the doctor took it last week it was 120/70 and she said it was fine to be off the meds. I probably should not have stopped them on my own, but like you, she was hesitant to stop them.

Were you informed about PS before you were banded?
maryrose replied to Dr. Schulman's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Jachut, I agree with you. I am having the breast reduction only and am perfectly happy to just look nice in my clothes at this stage in my life. I may feel different a few years down the road, but this is a varies from person to person. -
Top/blouse size after reduction ??
maryrose replied to maryrose's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Thansk strike! I hope your banding went well! -
I am scheduled for breast reduction 6/26. I can't wait. I am just curious as I find myself checking out cute tops in the stores wondering if I will be able to wear them? I was in 2 to 3x prior to weight loss. I am now probably in a 1X. Did anyone go down a few top sizes post-surgery?

maryrose replied to maryrose's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Thanks Mango. I am still wearing my old tops from last year and need to purchase some new stuff, but have been holding out waiting to see how things turn out. I can't wait to pick up a few new things. I did lose weight on top, but it was mostly "back fat" because I am still wearing the same bras, and they unfortunately still fit! I'm hoping I can fit into a size large top. I would be happy with that. I am in a 1X now. I would love to hear how you make out! Good luck with your reduction. Are you nervous? -

maryrose replied to Dr. Schulman's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Oh yes, absolutely! This was brought up at the informational meeting. The weight loss clinic administrator talked about this and also suggested we may want to plan for the expense and start saving up. I did not think too much about it at the time being in my 50's, but I can absolutely relate to anyone wanting to do this and I have a reductin scheduled! These stories on this board have inspired me. My nurse had bariatric surgery and breast reduction. They have had a plastic surgeon affiliate from the same hospital head up a few seminars at my clinic. I love my weight loss clinic. I am only 20 minutes from Boston, but chose Lowell General Hospital here in my town. They have some great docs, Dr. Michael Jiser and Dr. Shen have been doing the banding for a long time. -
Out of control eating; bingeing, please help!
maryrose replied to serenity55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Serenity, You have received some great answers! Please also take advantage of the counselling at the clinic. I had bit of a "relapse" when my boss went to Vegas and left me in charge. It was not pretty! I happened to had had an appointment that week at the clinic anyway, told them how under stress my eating was out of control, and I have an psych. appt. at the clinic. Don't be afraid to ask for help. My favorite words, stolen for Betty Davis regarding growing old, I changed them a little: lap bands are not for sissies! -

I would love to join in. I live closer to the NH border though. If the drive was not bad, I would definitely be intersted. I live in Lowell about 10/15 minutes form the NH border. I definitely need help! lol.
