    Getting hungry after fill

I havent had a fill yet. I had the surgery 12/13/06 and get my first fill on 1/16/07. I can eat WAY more than 3/4 of a cup with no problems. Hopefully, the fill will take care of that.

    hicups normal

I hiccup when I eat too fast or if something gets stuck.
  3. I was on clear liquids for one day post surgery, then my doctor ordered me the full liquid diet the day after surgery. They gave me pudding and cream soups in the hospital. I stayed on the full liquid for one week, then mushies for 2 days and I was eating solids on day 10 after surgery. My doctor advised to start eating solids as soon as I could tolerate.

    So Fed Up

I was banded 12/13/06 and I have minimal to no restriction, like you. I was on full liquids for a week, then mushies for 2 days and then on to solids 10 days after surgery. I have had no problems tolerating solids. I eat way more than 2/3 of a cup per sitting without any problem (probably 2-3 cups). I saw my surgeon on 1/2/06 and he didnt see any problems with this since I dont have a fill yet (not to mention that I have still averaged a 1 pound per day weight loss since my surgery). He was more concerned with how long after I ate did I feel hungry again which I told him about 5 hours. I should also mention that my lap band is the largest one they have based on the size and thickness of my stomach which is probably why I havent had much restriction. I am looking forward to my first fill on 1/16/06 so my intake will go down. But what I like so much about the lap band procedure as oppossed to gastic bypass is that I feel that I can ease into the life style change where with GB, the change is immediate and harsh. Hang in there and dont beat yourself up too much for eating more than you should. The fill should take care of that.

    Overfilled advice from Poodles

THanks for the information. It helps to know what to do should this happen to me.

    what size is your band

Does anyone know what the biggest band size is? Is it the one they refer to VG band?

    New and Just Banded

I was banded 12/13/06 and havent experienced the stuffed feeling yet. But Ihave the big band and no restriction. Maybe your band is smaller and you already have restriction. 4 bites? That is pretty good to feel full after only 4 bites. But I thought that grits were more of a pureed consistency so should go down easier. Hope someone that had a similar experience responds. Good luck.
  8. You are definately not alone mikkozoe. I was banded on 12/13/06 and have minimal restriction. I can pretty much eat anything that I want albeit in smaller portions that what I was eating but still pretty substancial amount of food. I get my first fill on 1/16/07 and look forward to the restriction.

Cheating? Is it worth the risk?

I was banded on 12/13/06 with what I was told was the biggest band they have due to my stomach size and thickness. With this big band and no fill, I have had minimal restriction. I have been able to eat solid foods since about 10 days post op. My doctor said that I could eat solid foods as soon as I could tolerate them. So, in answer to your question, I have certainly "cheated" especially on Christmas but I did not experience any negative side effects from doing so other than hiccups if I eat too fast. I am getting back on track now though because I have to prepare for my first fill on 1/16/07, after that I know I will be more restricted and I will have to watch more carefully what I eat. Don't beat yourself up over a cheese it. It is hard to know what is safe since it seems like everyone's doctor on this board has given different post-op diet instructions.

    2 days since surgery

I was banded 12/13/06 and have had no problems. Gas was minimal and I was off pain meds after 3 days. The doctor said that they had to use the largest band they have and that my first fill would probably be a larger amount than usual. I can see why. I have minimal restriction and have been able to eat with no problem. While I am eating far less than before the band, I can definately tell I need a fill. My doctor recommended the 2 week full liquid diet post surgery but that I should progress to soft food and solids as soon as I could tolerate it. Well, I can tolerate it just fine so I have been enjoying soldid foods at 10 days post op. For those of you experiencing vomitting or other side effects, I am guessing that it it is because you have a smaller band and greater restriction? Initially, I was 403lbs, 367 pre-op and now am 349. Kind of scared to get the fill but am looking forward to losing more weight. :clap2:
  11. For the most part, I have the liquid or chewable version. However, one of my meds is Prilosec OTC which is a time release pill. I just swallow it whole and it hasnt been a problem but it is a fairly small tablet.
  12. I was banded on 12/13/06, just a couple days ago. It is going ok so far. I havent really felt hunger yet. I am getting by with my protein drinks, broth and cream soups. My doctor said I could start the mushy stuff as soon as I could tolerate it. Cottage cheese is sounding really good right about now. Be sure to get in enough water. I went on a 3.6 mile walk yesterday and was feeling faint towards the end. That was because I was water deprived. I am still not sure if I did the right thing but I am looking forward to the weight loss. Good luck!!:rolleyes
