I received a copy of this and thought it was a good reminder not to let others dump their garbage on me!!! Beware of Garbage Trucks by David J. Pollay How often do you let other people's nonsense change your mood? Do you let a bad driver, rude waiter, curt boss, or an insensitive co-worker ruin your day? Unless you're the Terminator, for an instant you're probably set back on your heels. However, the mark of a successful person is how quickly he/she can get back her focus on what's important. Sixteen years ago I learned this lesson. I learned it in the back of a New York City taxi cab. Here's what happened: I hopped in a taxi, and we took off for Grand Central Station. We were driving in the right lane when, all of a sudden, a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his breaks, skidded, and missed the other car's back end by just inches! The driver of the other car, the guy who almost caused a big accident, whipped his head around and he started yelling bad words at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean he was friendly. So, I said, 'Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!' And this is when my taxi driver told me what I now call, 'The Law of the Garbage Truck.' “Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, full of self importance, full of jealousy and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it. And if you let them, they'll dump it on you. When someone wants to dump on you, don't take it personally. You just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. You'll be happy you did.” So this was it: The 'Law of the Garbage Truck.' I started thinking, how often do I let Garbage Trucks run right over me? And how often do I take their garbage and spread it to other people: at work, at home, on the streets? It was that day I said, 'I'm not going to do it anymore.' I began to see garbage trucks. I see the load they're carrying. I see them coming to drop it off. And like my Taxi Driver, I don't make it a personal thing; I just smile, wave, wish them well, and I move on. One of my favorite football players of all time, Walter Payton, did this every day on the football field. He would jump up as quickly as he hit the ground after being tackled. He never dwelled on a hit. Payton was ready to make the next play his best. Good leaders know they have to be ready for their next meeting. Good parents know that they have to welcome their children home from school with hugs and kisses. Teachers and parents know that they have to be fully present, and at their best for the people they care about. The bottom line is that successful people do not let Garbage Trucks take over their day. What about you? What would happen in your life, starting today, if you let more garbage trucks pass you by? You'll be happier Here's my bet. So. Love the people who treat you right. Forget about the ones who don't. Believe that everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, TAKE IT! If it changes your life, LET IT! Nobody said it would be easy... They just promised it would be worth it! -

Want2bmeagain; Hope all goes well with your mom. Kat - Thinking of you also. Laura: Haha! Everyone else good morning. It has finally turned cool here in St Louis. Monday it was 92 and this morning 54, so I was looking for a jacket to put on. Tried on one I've had for 5 or 6 years but haven't been able to wear since the year I purchased it and it was too big. I'm determined to wear it, so when it gets cold I'll bundle-up with sweaters and wear it anyway at least once. I'm going to put all my summer things in bags and farm them out to friends or charity go through my winter things get rid of anything too big and start wearing the rest. This should thin my closet out some. I'm a pack rat and hate to throw anything out. But they gotta go! I may not be losing a lot of pounds but a lot of inches. My friends and workmates all say that I'm "Shrinking" away! and I love it!!!!:clap2: I -

For those of you that keep losing posts, try writing it in word then do a cut & paste. Maybe that will help. My fill is tight too! Having a hard time with anything that isn't soft and I have to chew, chew, chew. I can't drink water with a straw anymore and if I have rice, I get the hicups after the first bite. I still manage to get between 800-1000 caolories, all my protein plus and water. I can manage crackers if I eat v-e-r-y- s-l-o-w-l-y. I won't even think about bread. Tried a bean burito the other day and after a small bite I just sucked the beans out and threw the rest away. (I was driving and starving.) Just got in from the gym. I walked 4 miles but didn't do my weights because it was getting to late (9pm) and it would take me forever to settle down to sleep. Have a good night!!! -

Good for you Jennifer, set your priorities and cross them out as you do them. Do what you can and 'oh well' what you can't. and Ijust have to remember that right now the Eve in you is coming out. (Genesis 3:16) . . .To the woman he said: "I shall greatly increase the pain of your pregnancy; in birth pangs you will bring forth children, and your craving will be for your husband, and he will dominate you.. . . db my not be your husband but you put him in the position as one, so there it is in a nut shell. Because of Adam & Eve's sin that inperfection has been passed down to their offspring and everything that goes with it. But you still don't have to allow it. We do have control of our lives. And men don't have to dominate and we don't have to accept it. Now, I'm out the door fore real to the gym. see ya!!! -

Ok Jennifer, I'm going to cut you som slack because it's TOM, but... what are you complaining about? You have lost 75 lbs. I'm still trying to get to 50. Your BMI is much lower. You are much taller than me, I'm sure, I'm only 5'2 and I'm over 200 lbs. You need to get cracken, and get to reading. Do something for somebody else to get your mind off of yourself. You have too much to offer! Since you finished school last spring does the school have job placement. Social Services doesn't like to pay out money to those who can work. Have you asked them about placement services or training in a different area. Go volunteer at the children's school. In fact, with your degree you can substitute teach. Check with the School district office. I know in most states you can sub with and AA or 60 units, so there's an area you can explore. In fact, most school districts offer continuing education so you can be certified. How about yard teacher, school crossing guard, sell Avon the start-up is $10 and you make 50% profit on the first 3 months and after that you get basically 20% but you will have established a customer base by then and they offer help to make you successful plus you'll meet new positive people. I don't buy books. I go to the library. It's cheeper (free) and if I don't like the book, I haven't wasted any money. If they don't have the book you want they will order it for you. How about a Mommy Service? Pick up and drop off children after school? Oo offer your services on school and snow days so parents don"t have to take off from work? Great association for your kids and gives them someone else to do things with and you won't have to entertain them as much. How about tutoring???? Just trying to throw some ideas out for you so you don't have time to lament and dwell on what's wrong put look at what is right. It's esy being the victim, and I ought to know, I've been one for years! But no more!!!! Take charge of your life. Don't give others the power over you. Take charge of your self. Jane, don't feel bad. I don't get up to exercise. I love to sleep :notagree. Part of it is because of depression and the other is that I'm a night person. If it were safe to go out at midnight I'd be at the gym pumping iron or something. For attitude adjustment try reading the book that was suggested to Jennifer "In the Meantime" and I just starting "Winning after Lossing". I'm learning that if we don't start addressing our issues NOW, we will not be able to keep the weight off. In addition to the issues we all have now that ran us to food we will still have and new ones will develop because of the weight loss. i.e. jealous friends, not being able to deal with attention then lack of attention when everyone gets use to the 'new' you... So we have a lot of work to do!!! ...So there was these two ants at the golf course and a bad golfer. The man kept swinging and missing the ball. Swish-h, the ants duck. Again, the man swings and misses striking the dirt. Again and again the man misses. Then one ant said to the other, "quick, if you love life, get on the ball!"... We/I need to get on the ball if I'm going to be successful!!!! :biggrin1: -

Sorry Jennifer! I'm a baaaad Violet when I get fired up. Last time I got this way I told dh that I was tired and I wasn't taking any crap from him, the cats or anyone else for that matter then asked him about his day. Did this for 3 days in a row and it scared him. (at least for a while.) I think I'll remind him again this week. He's about due. -

I went to check out a new gym today. The hospital is going to close their fitness center to the public the first of the year. So I drop in to Club Fitnes and they have a special for those who use the hospital center for $14.95 a month. And I'm waiting for the girl behind the desk to figure out which way is up, and this real buff guy asks if he could help me? You know it doesn't take much attention from a man to make me melt! He was one of the personal trainers. He teaches the kick boxing, boot camp, abs workout and self defense classes. (Just sign me up!) So I take a tour of the place and then he comes up to me and hands me his business card. I had to reel myself back to reality. If I sign up there, I know I'll get toned. I've been having one of those skinny days that has lasted for a week. I'm wearing clothes that I haven't worn in years and my waist line is back!!:clap2: I may be fat but I have a coke bottle figure again and it feels good. I just love myself, love myself...love me! Pam: Truly hope you feel better and don't let the little sap suckers sap your joy of teaching. And again Jennifer, I'm not dumping on you just want you to be treated better and for you to love yourself. Everyone else, have a good evening. -

I guess by now you have figured out that I don't like to post. But just checking in now that Kat has my #. Jennifer, CUT THAT MAN LOOSE!!! I know he has problems and has not been well but he doesn't care about you or the children (in my opinion whic doesn't count for much) If he did he would not be riding a new bike and he would be supporting you anyway he could. I bet he doesn't miss any meals. Apply for every state program available for you and the children and give them HIS name, address and social security number, call the DA. Put some fire under his behind!!! It just burns my butt to see a man dog out and abuse a woman. And that is what he is doing to you. You have people that care about you. I know you are doing the best you can but you don't need to drag around his dead weight too! My situation with my dh isn't the best but I have learned to look out for myself and if he benefits from something I do fine, but if not, oh well. There are no booty calls or anything else. He hasn't touched me in over 5 years and at this point in my life that's fine with me!! It has taken be a while to start loving myself and let me tell you, I loooove me some me! You really need to read that book "In the Mean Time" go to the library and get it!!!! It changed my life!!! and I refuse to live in the basement of life. Just know that I care! We all care! Now, you have to care!!! There is light and life at the end of the tunnel, and it's not coming from a train!!! Sorry about that! but you have to "man up" for yourself and not let him use you. That's setting a bad example for your children. I know that you don't want your son thinking that it's okay to treat women like that, nor your daughter to feel that she has to accept any old type of treatment from a guy just because. Shoot me if you want, but I just had to say something. I hate to see anyone be hurt. -

Potatoes, ground beef, string beans all ok anything else other than my hot cereal hurts. For the first time since band I have to chew. It's like I have to start over again. I get all my protein and water in so I'm not worried about that. Not complaining, it's just something new.
