Ms Jen replied to TracyinKS's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Don't worry, you'll get there. I have been going through this process since Oct and just got a date for next month. The process may be slow and painful but the results will be worth it!!! Jennifer -
Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

You went to LA weight Loss too? By the time I went through the program they ended up giving me all my money back? After 1-1/2 years of diet and going to the gym sometimes twice a day I only lost 15 lbs and have gaine it all back and some. I'm looking forward to April 13th! Jennifer -
I'm happy yet nervous about my surgery. Don't know how I'm going to tell Joe about it and how he will respond. We already have issues, one is that I don't know why we have these issues. After searching myself to what I've done to him I have come to the conclusion that it's not me. It's silly that Joe said that he didn't like me to others after we got married and I thought he was just playing. Now after seventeen years of marriage the light has finally come on and I realize that he truly doesn't. He just tolerates me. I am standing at the door of a new chapter in my life and I'm going throught it and I'll be damned if I'm going to let anyone take my God given right to peace and joy in my life.

I'm so excited I telling everyone (my lapband buddies) I got my surgery date today, April 13th for me. Looking forward to a new start in life. Jennifer -
Billie: I've already searched and found. The Weightloss Center at DePaul Hospitaql in St. Louis it just wonderful! So much support from staff. I went to their support group and was very please with what I heard and saw. It's a mixed group rny and bandies. Dr. De La Torre and Dr. Scott are at the top of the line as far as I'm concerned. Dr. De La Torre is published, has over 400 patents for laposcoptic insturments and was one of the doctors used for the medical trials for lapbands in the US for approval. He has and office in Columbia, MO and is a professor there at Columbia. I was just approved last week and got my durgery dat of April 13th. I'll keep you posted on my progress. Wishing you well in your search. Jennifer:Banane35:

Yep e-e-e :clap2: I was approved on the 16th and got my surgery date of April 13th. I have pre-op class on the 30th of this month. That involves meeting the dietition, lab work, x-ray, ekg and a consultation with Dr. De La Torre. I jusr can't believe it!!! :lalala:

Well, what happened!?! Did you get banded? If so, what has been your progress? I was just approved today and am very excited. Jennifer

Don't feel that you are selfish!!! I was at a siminar last night and the question of babies came up and Dr. De La Torre suggested that a person wait for a year. This gives a person a chance to lose weight which is why you got banded. This is a time when you're trying to get healthy. It's hard enough to eat for one and get all the Vitamins and nutrients in for a healthier you. Eating for 2 means more food and weight and you undermine what you are trying to achieve. Talk to your Dr. first!!!

Hi Ann I just got apporved today and I'm working with the Weightloss @ DePaul. I'm told that they do a final blood work-up, EKG, Chest Xray etc. The norm for surgery. Jennifer

I'm Happy for you!!! Looking to be banded next month Jennifer:clap2:

:update: Finally!!! After posting this afternoon depressed that I didn't have approval my Dr.'s off ice call me on my cell with the good news!! I'm approved.:clap2: I'll take my pre-op the last week of this month or the first week in April and have surgery the next week. Then on to a new lifestyle . woohoo!!!!!! -
I haven't been on-line since December. Too depressing to see others get banded and I'm still waiting. I had to wait for my Dr. to be approved with my insurance which didn't happen until Feb 2007 and now I'm waiting for my insurance to approve me. Approval request has been sent in 3 different times and twice they misplaced it. Last week on the 8th it was resubmitted and I now have a ref #. Insurance said that a decision will be made by the 20th of this month. I pray PLEASE let them approve it and PLEASE let me get a band date soon.

There are a lot of us around.:xena_banana: I just happend to luck up on this site looking for help in making my choice between RNY and being banded. I opted for band. Seems healthier for me. Spoke with my weight center yesterday and found I won't get a surgery date until March. Till then, I'll work on myself and look forward to seeing the weight come off!!! Jennifer

no family support for having surgery..lots of guilt though
Ms Jen replied to misltoe's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Besty Jane: I guess I'm lucky, my primary was happy that I asked about being banded and was 100% behind me and even gave me the phone # to start the process. My insurance will pay 100% however, some of my friends are another story. I'm going to do what I have to do for me and everyone esle is on a need to know basis and all they need to know is that I'm losing weight, looking good and much healthier!! While the on-line support is good for all of us to question and vent don't forget finding a support group that you can attend in your area. The one here in St. Louis is great. We meet twice a month and each meeting we have guest speakers. My first meeting we had taste testing on Protein shakes we can make so we don't get tired of drinking the same old thing. New recipes for fat free dips, tuna ... plus major question and answers period. Second meeting, a plastic surgeon. Last night a pharmicist. It's great to see others progress and make new friends that can eat all the same things as you. I'm not banded yet but still want to encourage all! -

Hello, i'm Jennifer. Even though you aren't getting support from home you'll find lots of support here. I'm not banded yet, waiting for insurance approval. I mentioned the band surgery with several of my friends I thought would support me. Wrong! so I dropped it. then there are those that support me 100%. My husband is on a need to know basis. I won't tell him until I have a surgery date. Don't worry, you can do this. Just think how healthy you'll be in a few months. Perhaps your husband is insecure about himself and feels threatened. Fear of the unknown can cause people that love you act crazy. I'm sure they have your best interest in mind. They'll come around. You just do what you know you have to do!!! Take care. -
Hello Denise: My name is Jennifer and I live in North county, St. Louis. I'm not banded yet. But available to encourage you.

Lots of pre-banding questions
Ms Jen replied to victoria21's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
what are Protein shakes ???and i dont want to pay 10000 euro to drink slim fast ...pmsl I haven't been banded yet as I'm just starting the process. From What I've read and heard in my suport group you NEED the protein. The protein that is suggested is special for bariactric/banded ones. Go to www.bariatriceating.com My Dr. suggest Zero Carb Isopure and one called Any whey which can be mixed in almost anything as it is tasteless. I also read the book by Susan Maria Leach and found it most helpful. There are many others but I don't want the expense of trial and error. Susan Leach is not a bandit but a RNY but the info is for both. Wishing you the best! Jennifer -
Flabuless... I'm very new to this site, just found it last night in fact. I notice that you respond often and are very supportive to eveyone. I'm looking forward to being a bandee soon. Waiting for final psyc report and insurance approval. Hope to have a date soon!!! I know I'll be SCREEMING for help when it happens but I know I'll make it.

"is it normal" please help!!!
Ms Jen replied to MELANIE's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
while I'm waiting for insurance approval and surgery date and cannot truly appreciate what you're going through, it sounds like you need to contact your surgeon. In the "mean time" remember all the reasons you decided to take this step and know that it can only get better. Make sure you attend your support group meetings, I find them encouraging and remember Protein, lots and lots of protein and Water. I'll be calling on you when I become a bandit.
