No restriction. Whatsoever.
susan hoffman replied to ocbutterfly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree, we didn't go through all the testing and 2 weeks of liquid protein shakes to be more abusive to our bodies. I was "banded' on 8/18/10. Had 1 fill and 1 week away from my 2nd fill. I do feel more hungry and "less restricted" but I am not going to go backwards. I watch my protein intake and try to take in veggies, salad and no bread and junk. I am trying to change my habits and thinks to feeling this is for the rest of my life and not a shortcut. I need to feel healthy and well for myself and my family. I'm 56 and want to be an adult finally in all respects, it was time to grow up for me. -
Hope you get to straighten out the "fill" situation. About to get me 2nd fill on 10/15/10. Had the first and don't really feel restricted (Doc put in 6 cc's), said next time he'll put in 8. I don't really feel hungry so I know it's working, just get tired when I know I have to eat. I've lost 30 lbs between pre & post surgery. Not losing too much now but staying on course food wise. I'm sure to lose if I stay on track. Didn't go all this way to go off. I want thinness and good health. At 56 yrs old, it's about time.

Very Positive. Almost a month now post-op and I hope to have the same success. -
Sooo upset and disappointed at setback
susan hoffman replied to lauravarley's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
IIt's upsetting but good that the hernia was found. Much better to be in good health when the surgery happens. Stay the course. Remember at least you have the mindset to accomplish your goals. Don't allow this setback to get the best of you. Stay strong. -
My 1st Fill/Update
susan hoffman replied to shadena32's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like you are doing great. I had the lapband done 8/18/10 and my first fill is on 9/17/10. I'm not hungry but I hear my stomack growling and just get tired (that's how I know I have to eat). I still do 1 shake and 2 soft meals (Weds starts 3 soft meals) but Friday is the fill. I've lost 30 lbs since 8/4/10. So happy that I'm making food less important in my life. Yesterday was my birthday and the surgery was a gift to myself. -
No worry, it's not 1 day visit but it's over a lifetime. Go forth face the fill and start your day (life fresh).

Don't let people sabotage you even though they are a doctor. Doctors are not gods, just people like you and me. You are strong having made the decision to do what you've done ( banding). No worry, you'll be fine, take it one drink/meal at a time.

Post op liquid intake limit?
susan hoffman replied to drivera's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my band done on 8/18/10. The first 2 weeks of liquids post op, I really didn't feel hungry. I am now into soft foods (1 week) for 1 meal and 2 shakes per day, Tomorrow, I will be able to eat 2 soft meals and a shake. To answer your question, I don't get hungry but I can tell when I need to drink ( I get tired ). Stay on top of drinking the protein shakes with water or tea in between. Start knitting to keep your self busy if needed. I stay far from the kitchen. -
This is my first post. Bare with me.

All the best to you. I too am slightly nervous about what and when to eat although I'm staying within my doc's guidelines. I was just "banded" on Aug. 18. Yesterday was my first small meal day. Felt strange to chew again. I have lost 25 lbs since week 1 (liquid protein) so I hope I do as well as you. -
New To this....

Hi, Had the lap-band on 8/18/10. Tomorrow will be my 1st soft food meal plus the 2 shakes. I thought the reason you needed to do weeks 1-2 on shakes was so you build scar tissue around the band to help secure the band to your stomach. Anyway, I start 1 meal and 2 shakes tomorrow for 2 weeks. It's really a life lesson on eating. I started at 297 pre-surgery now at 272.5 (2 weeks post op). -
My name is Susan also a 55yr old (soon to be 56). Decided also to extend my yrs on the planet as well. I am 2 weeks post op and tomorrow I get to eat my 1st meal. I guess it will be the incredible edible egg. Your story moved me as I am fearful but happy to make lifetime decisions about good health. Nice some see someone in my age bracket who made this lifetime decision. Thanks, Susan

A little cranky.. day 6 of pre-op
susan hoffman commented on BandedNellie's blog entry in Blog 99331
Missing chewing is not weird. It took me a few days to get over it as well. Lots of good luck. I'm on my second week post op.
