Just research both and go with what you feel is right. Band is slower weight loss and its reversible. Bypass is fast weight loss and roto rootering your insides.

getting pressured to do bypass over band!
kjojojr replied to skatkat's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My dad has the doundal switch (i'm not sure how its spelled). He lost half his body weight plus. ..he was having trouble keeping the weight on. We thought we were gonna lose him. He looked like a skeleton, very sickly too. Not everyone goes through that but it was very scary. Also there is a very strong lingering smell when he passes gas and goes to the bathroom.......BAD . I don't know if all gastric bypass patients have that odor but its real strong. That's my reasons for doing the band. Less invasive and slow healthy weight loss plus it's completly reversible. -
the first few days i lived on apple juice and chick broth. Take your pain pills to stay ahead of the pain. Surgery is serious business take it easy and rest. Keep drinking your fluids. Keep us posted

Biggest mistake you've made SINCE banding?
kjojojr replied to mypov's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Four weeks out of surgery I went to the cheesecake factory with my mom and sisters. We had appetizers, salad, bread and entree. When I got up to leave after dinner I almost passed out from the pain and cramps. Then a week later, I was visiting my dad and didn't eat for along time. I was ravenous and did it again.........lesson learned...takes me awhile. DON'T OVEREAT...IT HURTS. -
Hi carol, This is quite an adventure...I love it. It's awesome to actually lose instead of always gaining. I bought a bike last year too. I can't weight to be riding it without being so big. Keep us updated on your progress. Kelley

Sounds like you might have took too big of a bite. My doc said the size of the tip of your pinky finger. Take your time, small bites and chew like mad. Congats on your weight loss that's alot...good luck:hungry:

When did people start noticing your weight loss?
kjojojr replied to mypov's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've only lost 19lbs so far. My pants are not as tight. I see it in my face and gut. It sucks that we lose weight from top to bottom cause i got the big butt and thighs. So nobody has noticed yet. It will take another 20lbs before anyone notices my loss. But so what at least we are losing...yahoo!!! -
Fill DR in Calif After band in Mexico?
kjojojr replied to RondaLund's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I go to San Jose for my fills. What area do you live in. My surgeon in Mexico gave me a list of docs in my area that would do fills. Did they offer u any options in Calif. There is alot of fill docs out there... -
Julie, I had surgery in Mexico but I go to McKeen in San Jose for my fills. He charges me 325 for every fill. I wonder why mine is more.........did he do your surgery? So far, it sounds like my fills are way more expensive than everyone elses. That sucks cause I'm self pay

Sounds like your band needs some liqued removed. I think you are doing great with your weight loss. That's alot of pounds of butter. Try not compare yourself with others. Everybody loses differently. I have only lost 19lbs since nov. 06, but I'm thrilled cause I'm not gaining!Be Proud you are losing yea!!!:clap2:

That's funny about the loud hiccup thing,Susan. I'm sure not when you are out dining. I get the real sliming feeling then starts to hurt . TIME TO STOP! My 2nd fill really started the band working for me. I'M really glad I am banded. I lost 5 lbs more in a month which is slow. I went on a 7 day cruise 3 weeks ago and still lost. So i'm down 19lbs since nov. slow but sure. That's the way to lose, right!?

Molliebeth, At Oca Hospital, did you work with Veronica? How about Annmarie and Belighter company, did you sign up through them? I did, just wondering. I'm doing all my after care in San Jose Ca. close to where I live. Did DeLaGarza have you do a pre-diet? What a awesome doc and very handsome!!
-
I didn't get my fill yesterday, doc said I didn't need it. Which I'm glad cause I'm self pay. I also lost 5 pounds since my last fill yahooooo!!!! Tom, I agree with you. I hate to excercise it does feel like torture. Kudos to you for having the discipline to do it. I'm not exercising , not there yet, congrats to you tho.....Kelley

Yesterday i went to get my 3rd fill, but told the doc I was really feeling restricted. Food was constantly getting stuck. He told me to eat only an egg size of food . I was eating too much and that's one of the reasons I was BPing. Also my bites were to be the size of the tip my pinke finger no bigger. He also said to eat slow and let your stomach signal you that you are full 20 to 30 minutes. Plus I can eat later in the day what I can't in the morning. Since my band is really restrictive, I don't even bother to eat in the morning...Protein drink and Juice for breakfast....soup or soft foods for lunch ...and pretty much anything within reason for dinner. Hope this helps.
-
Wouldn't you know it, All day long I have felt so much restriction. I get my fill tomorrow and I can't get anything down. I'm still gonna go tho. I canceled my appt. last week cause i felt so much restriction. It's goofy my band works so well before my fills..

Congatulations Angelat........What a great feeling!!

Welcome, this is a great thread, i agree. Hey don't fret about your weight loss. I was banded on nov 10 06 and you have doubled my weight loss. You are doing fantastic!!:clap2: Tomorrow I weigh in at the doc's so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. This will be my 3rd fill, hoping this will be my sweet spot to really get this band where it's suppose to be..Talk 2 u soon. Kelley
-
Brooksie, it sounds like the 1st fill just sucked into the band. I'm stuck on my weight loss right now. Nothing much happening. So my fill is tomorrow. I hope it kick starts me again. My biggest problem is everyone who knows expects to see me so much thinner and it frustrates me. I tell them you won't see any results until the end of the year. I would like better results but i am definately a slow loser. I'll find out at the doc's how much i have lost ...not much but that's ok better than gaining.
-
Yea!! Maybe 3rd times a charm for me too. I hope so, i'm a self pay and it gets expensive........but worth it.
-
Sam, You are just 3 weeks out of surgery. Your stomach is still healing. Your body is going through big changes. Indigestion is gone..sleeping through the night ...good things. Try protein drinks that might help or what about creamed soups that really filled me up. Keep the faith but don't be miserable. What are you allowed to eat? It could be a mental thing too. Food addicts that we all are..

Hi Machele, Congats on your decision to start a new life. I've been banded since nov 06. I have no regrets. Remember its a slow process of losing but i feel by far the healthiest (that spelled right?) choice of all the weight loss surgeries. Keep us posted..........Kelley
-
I go in for my 3rd fill in 2 days. I can't wait until I find my sweet spot. It is a weird process tho. I agree with you....sometimes i feel so much restriction then the next day i Feel no restriction. Oh well, as long as the weight drops off slowly but surely I'm happy..
-
HI all, I'm doing my 3rd fill in 2 days. I'm hoping to find my sweet spot too. It's a weird process, isn't it. Sometimes i feel really restricted and other times i feel i can eat like any non banded or "the others".........as i like to call them.:heh: Oh well, I'm enjoying the process. One thing that bugs me is "the others" asking how much have i lost or are you feeling ok? I shouldn't have told everyone i was getting banded. Live n Learn.

Here's to a new BEGINNING!!!

What a long process.........hopefully time flys for you.:biggrin1: -
Just research this site. Ask lots of questions. I've been banded since nov. o6. I don't regret it. Also know that it is a slow process 1 to 2 lbs a week. But I feel its the healthy weight loss surgery out there. Good luck and remember LBT has lots of support here.
