My PCP has been after me since I was 21 to discuss weight loss surgery. However, as I hadn't had any children I wasn't ready for it. I guess in the back of my mind I always thought that one day I would just start losing it. However, it doesn't seem like that day ever came. I wound up in the ER for chest pains 2 years later (it was nothing thank God) but I realized that now I had a baby and a husband, and I needed to make sure I was around for them. I got the referral frommy PCP, and spent 3 hours meeting iwth my pre op team for a consult. Initially they wanted me to do the gastric sleeve because I was so heavy and they feared the lap band wouldnt work, but was unsure if my insurance would pay for it. We went ahead and sent it in, but it got rejected. In the time it took for the rejection, I lost 9 lbs, and came back and they agreed to do the lap band. The surgery itself was short, and I went home that same day. It's been a crazy journey and same days I feel like a lap band failure. I havent lost as much (actually no where near) what i need to, but Im working on it. Im running out of excuses, and quite frankly Im tired of using them.
