  1. Well I just got banded on 11/10 and Im making it through the day. I got into a really really comfortable position this morning after I dropped the baby off at daycare and slept for about 4 hours (I had previously been sleeping on a friends couch). WHen I woke up it felt as though nothing had ever been done.... then I moved lol. Other than that it's not going too bad. I was told to stay on a clear liquid diet for 3 days, but that clear liquid diet is the same as my pre-op diet without the cottage cheese, so Im having yogurt and protien shakes as well. I also feel alot of rumbling in my tummy. Does anyone else have that? Its not like a hunger rumble, but maybe a gas rumble? I feel like every time I get up from a laying down position I feel a sloshing sensation, and Im worried about the port. It cant flip over just from me layng down on my opposite side can it? I also tried gas-X to help cure some of the gas and that didnt help. For some odd reason those strips tear me up! I was in even more pain and vowed never again. Ive been burping, but those get stuck, so its a slow process. Heaven help me if I get the hiccups!
  2. I was banded yesterday on the 10th. MY dr was running a little bit late, so we strted at 9:40 instead of 9, but thats okay. I remember they putting the gast on me and then them stating my name and what was going on, then waking up in recovery a few hours later. Yesterday I was sore in the hospital, and still kinda sore at home. Im doing better today. I can burp but cant pass gas (and may I want to be able to sooo bad lol). my back hurt a lot yesterday, but I think that was because I was haying in one position for a long itme. To more I move the better it gets. My weight lifting restriction is 20lbs, so I could lift my 11 month old, but Im trying nt to. Luckily she started walking this week, so she will walk holding my hand, or by crawling to me.We're staying with friends for a few nights, but I cant wait to sleep in my own bed.
  3. Today is the day! I leave for the hospital in about 10 minutes (letting my daughter get in that last dose of Sesame Street before she goes to daycare). Im a bit nervous (now) but suprisingly enough I havent been nervous until now. My family has all called and wished me good luck, so I guess we're set. In about 4 hours I will be starting with the new me! See you guys on the post op board!
  4. Sha, I just now noticed that you were in California. Where at? Im in San Diego, and getting banded tomorrow at UCSD.
  5. I find that Im not really nervous yet, but Im sure that will come tonight :crying: Today Im just trying to go through a normal everyday routine. I took my daughter to daycare this morning, and am now trying to clean the house so that I dont have to look at it and wish it were clean later I did my last test yesterday and found that I had officially lost the 15lbs that my surgeon required me to lose. Now lets just hope that the liquid diet helped my liver out. I guess Im more worried about them getting in there and finding some reason not to band me. I wont rest assured until I wake up and they say "you're good to go April, welcome to the start of your new life". Anyone else nervous about that?
  6. 14.6lbs lost and I still have 2 days. Im not nervous yet, but Im sure I will be soon.
  7. Im in the final stretch of the liquid diet and I have 3lbs to lose before Wednesday morning. Ive decided that Im gonna have a nice (but sensiable) dinner tomorrow with a friend since its my last day at my job. Then its back to the grindstone for me. Ive found that Im not as hungry as I thought I was before after 3 weeks of this. I think sometimes I miss the variety of food. I mean, what Im "eating" now is food, but not the food Ive been used to. I need to start looking for recipes that would be good for me in the future without falling into the same old meal (skinless baked/grilled chicken and veggies) every night.

    The worst timing!

Ask your dr for the insurance billing code, then call your insurance and ask them if they cover that specific code. My insurance (tricare) doesnt cover weight loss programs (I.E. nutritionalist visits, weight loss centers etc) but weight loss surgery wasnt under that catagory.

    Pre-op diet hell

When I looked at my food journal, my diet runs about 620 per day. 3 half cup servings of fat free cottage cheese = 300 calories (100 cal a serving) then my shakes are 160 (and I have 2). I do have sugar free , sugar free popcicles, and broth, so Id say maybe I'd hit 700 a day. I can throw in one 16 oz serving of juice, and one sugar free fudgepop, but whats the point if I have diet juice and popcicles?
  10. woohoo! It is officially November (or at least on the east coast, but that's a minor detail). My surgery is on the 10th and its getting closer and closer. My resolve did slip today, but I was proud of the decisions I did make. I decided because it was Halloween I would allow myself a treat. Instead of gorging on candy as I normally would, I has 2 fun size snickers, and a Reeses cup. I also had a mixed greens salad (which of course isnt liquid) but I figured if I were going to go for something "off" my diet, it could at least be healthy. I have 6lbs to lose by the 10th, and I feel I can be successful. Good luck to all of you who have your surgery this week. Next week I know I'll be getting the same well wishes from you.
  11. Hmmm I have prime so Im not sure if the comorbidities woudl be different (Id assume not). I didnt have any comorbidities (Im part of that "your double your weight so we'll automatically approve you" club) but some that the drs did tell me about were sleep apnea, PCOS, hypotension, high blood pressure, diabetes. I woudl call up tricare and ask them to define their co morbidities for you.
  12. I check in at 7 with a placement at 9 (Pacific Time). Good news is that I get to go home that day. I wont really be going home, but staying with friends because my husband is out to sea, but you get the idea

    Pre-op diet hell

Well I didnt have the cupcakes (although I thought long and hard about it). Now that Im not eating out, I realize how much of my social outings revolved around food. If a friend and I were to spend the day out shopping, it would be normal to go and have lunch. On this diet I cant do that. I also went and saw a movie today, and have to restrain myself from getting popcorn and a soda. Just a bottled Water for me, thanks. Lucily I just have from 10/31-11/9 to go on this diet, because Im banded 11/10! It will be worth not eating the things I THINK i need (but really dont)
  14. Hi guys! Just checking in with everyone to see how they have been. I know most of us are on pre op diets now, or will be soon as Monday is the first! Hard to believe that we will be banded in 11 short days! I hope that everyone holds up through Halloween, and fights the urge to raid the candy bowl tomorrow.
  15. Oh no! I hope that you get feeling better soon.
  16. so I know Ive only been on my liquid diet for 9 days, but IM still scared that I wont lose the 15 lbs that I need to have the surgery. I know they said if I didnt lose quite 15 it was okay, but I dont want to be that person. It sucks too because our scales are different, so Im not sure when to worry. I was 283 on their scale (mine 280) but I was weighing without clothes on at home. Now Im weighing with clothes on and am 275. ARGH! I dont know whether i should deduct 3 lbs or not. Maybe I should go back to weighing naked and taking off the 3lbs. This is causing me such undo stress!
  17. It's me! Im very excited. Ive been on a "portion control" diet for 2 months, a my liquid diet for a week, and my muffin top is officially gone, even when the jeans are fresh out the dryer. Now mind you Im still in size 24's but those 24's are loose, and dont have my flab hanging over. I'm very excited about this. What other victories have you guys experienced?

    Pre-op diet hell

ARGH! They brought cupcakes for halloween at work! They are just staring me in the face! Focus April, Focus!
  19. Day 8 of 21 of my pre op diet (although its day 6 of the "no cheat" version) and its slowly getting better. I live off of sugar free Jello and low sodium chicken brother. I was told that I can have "diet" juices and drinks, but Im really apalled at how few stores have diet juice. I had to go to 5 different stores (including a grocery store, a target, and 3 wal marts) before finding diet v8 splash. Needless to say I bought 4 gallon bottles (always gotta be prepared ) But our day is drawing closer my fellow 11/10/10 bandsters. Not long before we start our new lives!

    Pre-op diet hell

Im sorry  I wish there were a great answer to this question, but I havent found it. Im on a 3 week liquid diet, with 2 protien shakes and 1.5 cups of fat free cottage cheese being my "meals". Ive been allowed to have lots of sugar free Jello and low sodium broth to "tide" me over. Can you have the JELLO? Its pretty helpful because I feel like Im eating since its with a spoon.
  21. I like muscle milk light chocolate milk. Its pretty good. Its amazing that you're employer added that coverage. My employers actually told me to reschedule my surgery for next year or prepare to be fired when I got back. needless to say I put my 2 weeks in.

    too many tests!

I feel ya on the test. i feel like I was taking off one or two days a week. I had my initial consult, then had to come back for an appointment to sign paperwork to submit to the insurance, then I had to see the nutritionist and the surgeon nurse, then the anesthesiologist, then my barium swallow, blood work, manometry study, more blood work, etc. I know it will be worth it in the end, but I feel ive gone to the dr more in the past month than I have in my life combined!
  23. Hope where did you hear you cant drink 2 hours after meals? My nutitionalist told me it was just 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after (the big on is 30 minutes after). 2 hours sounds a bit extreme.
  24. The liquid diet is tough, but way worth seeing the lbs come off! stick with it! Im on day 5 and I did cheat on day 2 and 3 (a piece of pizza and some tuna), but Ive been with it since then and I notice more progress when sticking to the rules. I have to drop 15lbs in 3 weeks, but right now its not seeming like that much of a stretch. Lots of SF JELLO, SF popsicles, and low sodium broth, 2 protein shakes, and 1.5 cups of fat free cottage is all this body is running off. Not my life plan diet, but it works for now.
  25. Hi Everyone. So I met with my nurse to go over the post op instructions, and she said that I needed to stop my birth control (I have the nuva ring) 30 days before surgery and keep it out 30 days after, because my body will mess with the hormones. Has anyone else been told this? Its not like I cant use condoms with my husband, but my birth control helps make my periods a bit more bearable. They also told me to wait until after a month to get my IUD in (I was trying to get it in before the surgery). ANy thoughts?
