Favorite foods since being banded?
BeachBabe replied to missgypsy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
funny, when I got to the turkey taco soup statement I left the board and googled it until I found a recipe. If I had just scrolled down I would have found it! Love the idea and will be making this ASAP. This board is making me hungry tonight. Yummy and healty options!!! -
Exercise is messing me up....help
BeachBabe replied to MollyRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am doing a bootcamp 3 days a week (burning 450-600 per session and only eating 900 calories a day in total). I was having the same issue so I took a power protien shot (from Target, GNC, Rite Aid etc.) before my work out the other day and drank a protein juice drink in my water bottle during the boot camp and I was not hungry afterwards. It was the magic bullet. -
I need Lunch Ideas Please
BeachBabe replied to use-to-be-cute's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
MissGypsy you are my idol. I love your lunch ideas and feel like a new woman. I am going to the store tomorrow. Great protein, low fat and carbs, and variety!!! Thank you for the yummy ideas. I am tired of a small can of tuna or 2 meatballs every day for lunch. -
Eating too soon?
BeachBabe replied to SarahMarie123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I totally agree. Proitein is the key to lose weight and curb hunger. I have some yummy special protein chicken noodle and beef vegetable broths that I love and theu are filling and have 20 grams of protien and only 70 calories. Egg whites are great scrambled (only eat 2 though) and low in choleserol and calories. You should also drink the special protein fruit drinks that have 20 grams of protein. Do not eat too many carbs. That is why we all got fat. -
Eating too soon?
BeachBabe replied to SarahMarie123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A bananna is mushy but not a slider. It will stick in your stomach and your stitches can break if you put too much pressure on the pouch. That is why my doctor told me to stay on liquids for 3 weeks. Be careful to not over stuff the pouch and count calories!!! -
Losing more than just my weight...
BeachBabe replied to rcain03@hotmail.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
think this is really normal. My psych consult covered this and the psychiatrist asked if I thought this would be an issue that could come up in my mairage. You guys should go to counciling. -
Carbonation!!!!!!!!!!!
BeachBabe replied to kellyodoran's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would imagine that doctors and manufacturers have a reason for their reccomendations. I understand that the carbonation can expand the pouch and I put my trust in the medical professionals and follow their reccomendations. Do what you feel like doing though. I plan to follow the plan my doctor has set out for me and not be a renegade. It is not exactally like rebelling against civil injustices in the world. It is soda. No biggie to stop drinking it in my book. With or withoit scientific proof. -
What was your after care like after surgery?
BeachBabe replied to soulsista001's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery at 8:00 am and went home at 2:00 pm. Layed in bed for a few days and did not need any help. You should be fine. No discharge from wounds. -
Is there a chance this will happen to me?
BeachBabe replied to camann's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think many people on the board that are gaining weight do not count their calories. My sister has an overweight kid that I see drink 4 sodas a day and wolfs down 3 peaces of bread and butter with dinner but she says he does not drink any and that he eats healthy. DENIAL!! You have to do this to be successful. I use an IPhone app from www.LiveStrong.com and it is awesome with telling you how many calories things are and how many calories you burn doing activities. It is a daily journal. Remember that it is not possible to gain weight if you are eating less than you are burning. I am 5"8 and I apparently automatically burn 1600 calories a day. I am eating 900 calories a day. It takes 3500 un-burnt calories to gain a pound. I am not gaining weight because I am eating less than I burn. It should take me about 3-4 days to lose a pound at this rate and quicker with excersize. Keep this in mind and you will be successful! -
I use the www.LiveStrong.com application on my I Phonebut you can also do it on the website and count every calorie I am eating. YOu may find that you are eating too many or too much once you coult the calories. You need to burn 3500 Calories to lose a pound. I figured that if I eat 1000 calories a day and burn 1600 it will take me 4 days to lose a pound. I started a boot camp to speed that up and lose an extra 500 calories a day so it will only take me 2 days to lose a pound. Anyway, you may want to start focusing on the calorie intake.
-
Are you counting your calories? You should not be eating more than 1200 calories a day at the most. I am keeping to 900 calories. If you are eating mushies they are just sliding through your stomach. The average person burns 1600 calories a day without excersize. If you are eating more than you are burning you will gain weight. One pound equals 3500 calories. Keep healthy and do not eat sliders that are high in carbs, fat, and not protien. Drink protien drinks still and have scrambled egg whites for Breakfast and a can of tuna for lunch. Not fun but rewarding when you get on the scale. Eat for nourishment and not for pleasure. No juice, mashed potatos, cream Soups, high sugar yogurts, and ice cream!!!

I noticed that I started smelling like the protien drinks that I was drinking. I could sometimes smell the protien powder in my pores and my breath was awful the first 2 weeks but normal now.

Discomfort when inhaling (in chest area)
BeachBabe replied to kimmila's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I totally had that problem the first week or so. It also hurt to sneeze and cough. You just got poked and prodded inside near your lungs and you are most likely swollen inside from it. If it gets worse or gets hard to breathe call your doctor. -
Is it possible to lose 30-35 pounds by Oct. 23rd?
BeachBabe replied to Erin18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe you ca kick start things by going on a 10 day liquid diet again and do lots of protien drinks. That is the only way to rush faster to your goal. You did it once and you can do it again!! -
Yup it is normal. Pain killers numb your nerves in your body so when it starts to wear off you feel itchy. Very normal unless you also have a rash. You will be in pain for about a week and then it starts to go away. Good luck with your first week. Take it easy and eventually you will feel 100% normal again.

Yay i made it to the 140's!!!!!!!!!
BeachBabe replied to jen36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
May I ask when you had your surgery? You look like you started at less than 200 pounds which is similar to me. I was wondering how long it took you to lose the 42 pounds. Thank you! -

Halloween Challenge
BeachBabe replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great idea. I just signed up for 16 pounds (2 pounds a week). I have 3cc's in my band currently (was done on operating table) and I have anothe 2cc fill coming on September 20th so I hope to be in a good zone to hit my goal. I am also doing a boot camp that atarted this week and I feel great! -
I would drink a lot of water to wash it down. I ate guacamole and tortilla soup (without the tortilla) tonight at Chevy's and I was really uncomfortable even though they were technically mushies. I drank water when I got home and felt better. It washed down. I am not letting my family take me out to eat anymore....or bring home ice cream. We all learn lessons.

mine is right above and to the side of my belly button right at my largest incision site.

Is Food Still Your Enemy...
BeachBabe replied to warriors_journey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think adding things like carbs (pasta and bread) to a soup sabotage your efforts. Make the soup without the whites next time and limit it to only one bowl a day and you will see more success I am sure. Many doctors say no soup later in the diet because it just slips through the band and you most likely eat more than 4 grams of it at a sitting (excluding the liquid in it) -
Time to double up on the vitamin C and zinc. Otawalla has a drink called Monster C and I would chug one. It works really well when you feel illness setting in.

Here Come the Emotions...
BeachBabe replied to SarahMarie123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will not be limited as much on foods as you think. Just junk food and high carbs. The hardest time is the first 3 weeks and it gets better. So what that you can't pig out all of the time. Don't you hate yourself after you do it anyway? Learn to like fine foods and not gross unhealthy foods. I think you will find that you miss food less than you think you will once you are banded. I am just not as hungry anymore. I am sure drug addicts and alcoholics get stressed before going into rehab. We are food addicts and the fear of not having our food fix can be great. Break your addiction!!! -
Time off from work???

Eat too much break your stitches........
BeachBabe posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just went to my doctor today for my post op. It has been 5 days since my surgery. I admitted I slightly cheated last night to my doctor. He warned me that I am on 3 weeks of liquids and 2 weeks of mushies for a purpose. If you eat before your band has settled in to place your upper stomach pouch will expand and you can break your stitches that the doctor puts in to keep your lap band in place. He warned me I could be out another $15k to re-do my surgery if I do not follow his directions and m band slips. Just a word to the wise and letting those of you that are eating way before you should that there is a reason for the liquid and mushies. Don't cheat or else.........
