    Size matters

Just like each person has different size feet, hands, nose, brains...so are our stomachs. I actually asked my surgeon about this. The size of the band is not related to how much weight you need to lose, it's regarding the size of our anatomy. Some people just have a larger stomach, and the size of your stomach does not correspond to your weight.
  2. I feel great! I have so much energy! Tomorrow will be the official 1 week post op date, and so far I have lost 15lbs! The first few days after surgery, I was very depressed due to the gas pain. I didn't have shoulder pain, but I would almost do this silent burp, and all that would happen would be a sharp pain deep inside. I have not felt hunger since the night before surgery, and this absolutely blows my mind! I already have some restriction as my surgeon leaves about 2-3ccs in the band during surgery. Life is good! This is the best decision I have ever made! Starting weight 379/Surgery date 358/current weight 343/Goal weight 175
  3. I'm Approved! I finally broke down and called the insurance company. I was approved on December 13th. I immediately called my surgeon's office. They found out on the 14th, but never called me. Yikes! My surgery date is scheduled for January 12th. Although my doctor does not require a pre-op liquid diet, I am going to do it anyways. I have gained back some of my initial weight loss, and I think it will be a good jump start. I need to stock up on things I will need for after surgery. I still don't know what Protein drink to get and what are any absolute things I need for after surgery. Please help with suggestions! Megan
  4. I am having surgery Jan 12th and plan on going back January 31st. The first 7 days off are unpaid or you use your vacation time. (I used my vac time up already) so short term disability kicks in after the 7 days, so I figure as long as I took one week off, I might as well go for 2! I have school starting the week after surgery, so I figure the extra week off will be great, so that I don't overdue things!
  5. Congrats! My date is January 12th!
  6. Thank you so much! Very helpful! I added a strainer Gas x strips Milk of Magnesia heating pad Benefiber to the list too.

    The BIG secret!!

Personally, I have pretty much told everyone I see on a daily basis, and immediate family. Some reacted positively, others told me stories of how it didn't work for so and so that had it, others had lots of questions. I work in a hospital and I'm surrounded by nurses and doctors, so it's a bit different. People are a little less judgemental where I work. My reasoning for telling so many people is that they will help hold me accountable. It's sort of twisted I know, but in a way I want them to judge me so that I stick with this, and try my hardest to get this under control. Whether they think I'm cheating or not doesn't really matter to me, but if I don't lose this weight even after having the band placed, that will be very upsetting!
  8. I finally had my surgeon consult today. My insurance does not require any supervised weight loss, but the Surgeon's program requires 3 months and the psych eval. That's all behind me. I'm going to pick the Lap Band over the Realize band. I asked about the 2 week liquid diet, and he says he does not require it, and that it is (and I quote) "Not advantageous to the patient" He stated that he has done lapbands laproscopically on 600lb patients and he has the tools to move a large liver out of the way, so he isn't worried about it. He told me not to GAIN any weight and still TRY to lose, but no liquid diet is required. Anyone else hear of this?
  9. Waiting for insurance approval!
